The dreams of being a street racer, but the reality of what can happen when the police catch up.

I love listening to my parents stories from when they were my age. There were so many things they could do that I can’t in the world I live in today. My favorite stories that I would love to be able to do? Racing. As in street racing, as in fast cars and good times. As in the cops chase you, your job is to lose the cops. If I tried that today I would be thrown in jail, lose my license, and God only knows what else. Oh and it would haunt me for the rest of my life on my official record. Is this fair? I think not. The other day I was driving down the highway with my mom and we got passed by several cars that seemed to be involved in a race. Seeing as they were weaving in and out of traffic at speeds exceeding 100 mph, and that the cheapest car probably cost more than I make in a year, I am pretty sure my assumption that they were involved in a race was accurate. With every car that passed my desire to join them grew. I am positive I could have out driven them, it was horrifying just how bad they were, but there was no way my car would have had a chance. Watching the last car disappear in front of us my mom and I talked about how amazing it would be to be a part of the whole street racing world. I love to drive, and I would love to be able to fix up a car and race across the country. Sadly, I don’t see that being a part of my near future. But our talk quickly turned from the people racing the cars, and we started to discuss the police force that is now in power. It seems that there is no longer any responsibility left to the parent or to individuals to be able to manage their lives. I understand that street races can be dangerous, but as long as the people actually know how to drive, and know how to be careful of others on the road than I say let them drive. And if one is doing something stupid slap their wrist, but don’t mark them for the rest of their life. I know a lot of people who tell stories of the cops catching them underage with booze and either pouring it out, or telling their parents. Today the people I know that got caught as a minor get a Minor in Possession, have to go to therapy, pay huge fines, do community service, and if they are over eighteen carry it on their record for the rest of their life. As far as I see it they were the ones consuming alcohol, not forcing it down anyone else’s throat. So really, what exactly makes it the police’s business? Now if that minor is out endangering other’s because they are out of control then fine. They have crossed the line, but until then leave them be. I have the same issue with seatbelt laws. If I don’t wear my seatbelt I think it is my own matter. My grandfather survived two accidents because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. So why is it anyone else’s responsibility to tell me what I should do for my own safety? Rather than chasing the car speeding down the road, or pulling the person over that has decided to not wear their seatbelt, there are so many other things out there that I would rather see the police deal with.

An example of this is the gang problems that so many places seem to be having now. Where I live we have a few newer gangs, as well as Crips and Blood. Crips and Blood have both been around for a while by my house. They have caused numerous problems, and the local pizza joint has abundant bullet holes in their outside wall from gang shootings. The highpoint of the gang issues was when a few girls were attacked walking by the river next to the fish hatchery. The classic response from the police? They had a public safety meeting to tell people to not walk along that taxpayer funded walkway because the gang violence made it a dangerous place. When asked what they were planning on doing about fixing the problem they said they didn’t have enough officers to send in. Well since you can’t drive two blocks in this town without seeing at least one police car I want to know just what those officers are doing. I wouldn’t care if every person in the city went fifty over the speed limit, I would rather see the people shooting and attacking people get caught.

Recently this issue was again brought up at a friend’s graduation party. Her father said that young people had changed from when he was young. At his graduation everyone would already have been drunk and fooling around. Our response? Yes, but you wouldn’t have been in danger of earning a record that will never go away. I know there are too many parents who no longer teach their children responsibilities, or consequences. Instead they leave it up to the state to be the parent. But maybe if the state quite then the parents would have to start again. And the children could learn constructively, rather than destructively. They could move on from their mistakes, and grow so that they learn how to tell what idea is a good one, and which one they should avoid. Maybe if I got a hot car and partook in a street race I would decide that it wasn’t my thing. But if I am afraid of what will happen if I actually hit the gas on my car then I will always want to try, but I will never know if it is a good idea. So then when something happens I won’t know whether I should go for it or not.

So, which is better? My parent’s world, or mine? I shudder to think what my children’s world will be. What is happening to our freedom, our rights? I do have a great respect for the men and women who swear their lives to the protection of the American citizen. I pray for them daily, and I know that there are so many police officers in the service who deserve every bit of respect they can get. But, there are also those who take advantage of a corrupt system to feed their need for power. These are the ones who in feeding their own needs are further corrupting the system. These are not the officers who will take the kid who has had one too many to drink home and say hey, sleep it off. And then remind the parents that it is their job to care for that kid. I would love to go back in time, back when the police were there to keep you safe, not take your freedom. Maybe one day we will return to that time. I hope so, but until then, if you see cars racing, move over, give them room. Let them drive while they can, before they get caught. And if one of them is a girl, cheer her on, maybe it’ll be me.

Illegal drag racing is a huge overlooked problem.

There have been cases where an innocent person was killed because of a drag racer and than the racer was let off the hook easily. If a person gets behind the wheel and decides to speed at speeds of up 80 mph on a road where people walk than the person must know that there is a chance of hitting someone or killing someone and they should face hard time.

One of the most recent Illegal drag racing stories is the recent news of Hulk Hogan’s son. His son Nick was involved in a very serious accident because he was racing and now his friend is seriously injured and will probably never be the same again.

While the subject is brought up, I think in this case the parents should be liable for some of this considering that the father supposedly bought Nick and his friends alcohol and than allowed them to drive. I think there should be tougher laws against drivers who engage in this kind of activity because it is apparent that they do not car about the surroundings and other people’s lives. There are legal ways you can drag race and doing it on a highway for fun is no one of them.

Ideas on how to make street racing easier, more enjoyable, profitable and a lot safer for everybody!

Youngsters always look for racing games to play. Unfortunately, some of them choose street racing which is a form of unsanctioned and illegal auto racing which takes place on public roads.

Most people consider street racing as a useless activity by the youngsters. It is thought not only as an activity which wastes the street racers’ money and time but also endangers their life.

What makes most people furious about street racing is that it also endangers the life of innocent people who have nothing to do with the street racing as the race occurs on public roads.

What I am going to suggest here is that we should let them play their racing game away from the public. Let these people, the street racers and their fans, have their own place to enjoy the racing game.

Here’s what we could do for the street racers:

Allocate for them an open space on a piece of land with a size of one or two airports. Let them race their cool cars, hot cars, fast cars or whatever they call them in a less developed area in the suburb which has low real estate value.

Make it totally free for them to play a racing game – no entry fees, circuit fees or any other kind of fees or charges. They cannot afford to play a racing game legally at a race circuit like Sepang Circuit.

The racers and the observers must realize that they take full responsibility and will not make other people accountable for any accidents, injuries and even loss of lives.

Let the racers set their own racing rules.

Make the race track adjustable and let the racers adjust the shape of the race track themselves (by using cones or other methods).

The racers can race any time, day and night

No police should interfere with them, except in the case of fighting.

Surprised with the above ideas?

You may think that it is a waste of tax payers’ money. You may even think that these ideas will further encourage them to do the useless activity.

However, which one of these should we give more priority? Tax payers’ money or tax payers’ life (including the life of the accompanying non-taxpayers)?

We should give priority to the life of innocent people. In fact, you may be surprised if I say that my suggestion will not only save more lives but also generate profit!

Before I go on any further, let’s get into the minds of those who play the racing game.

These youngsters know that they risk their lives. They also know that their racing game costs money. So, we should forget about trying to talk into them and save their lives and money. As youngsters, they usually will not listen.

The only thing left that we can do is to get them away from us when they play their racing game so that they will not harm the life of other people.

And now, how are these ideas profitable and beneficial?

When the street racing drivers and fans gather at one place, they will become a more “visible”, identifiable and locatable market. The authorities can have business premises such as shop lots available and ready for rental nearby their race track as they are a ready market for the following products and services:

New and used fast cars, cool cars, hot cars, etc.

New and used motorcycles of many brands like Harley Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc.

Auto parts and accessories.

Racing apparel.

Athletic footwear and sports equipments.

Street racing videos and games.

Formula 1 products such as posters of Formula 1 cars, posters of Formula 1 racers like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, etc.

Magazines on fast cars, cool cars, hot cars, auto parts, etc.

Advertising space for auto traders for products manufactured by Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc

Petrol.

Food.

Good talents among the street racers can also be easily identified, extracted and exposed to legal racing. Who knows they could be the next great Formula 1 racers like Michael Schumacher or Fernando Alonso!

The authorities can have better control of modified vehicles. The racing cars and motorcycles can remain in the racing area at allocated parking spaces.

The authorities can save tax payers’ money as income from shop rentals, advertising space and tax on the race organizer can offset the land cost

The authorities can also save money and time required for preventive actions such as having traffic police chasing the street racers on public roads

And believe it or not! The street racers can even play their racing game more safely as there will be no public road users, no traffic lights, no buildings or any other obstructions on their race track! There will even be no traffic police blocking or chasing them!

So, let the street racers have their racing games to play for free. Who knows, the above ideas could make street racing a step closer to be transformed into just another kind of extreme sports.
