As the time passes by and we grow up, some of us are lucky enough to fulfil those dreams, while others remain behind closed doors and not able to achieve any of their dreams. Let&rsquo;s imagine for a few minutes, what happens to those of us who are ambitious and have not been able to achieve their goal? Despite the fact they have devoted their whole life to the purpose of achieving one goal.<br />Let&rsquo;s take the example of someone I have known for a very long time; he wants to remain anonymous. Ever since, I have known him, he has been a very ambitious and hard-working person. As a child he wanted to work in the media industry as a PR Executive and it was the only job he wanted. He was a good student at school, with an excellent character.<br />He wasn&rsquo;t the brightest student in the class, but was average, yet very ambitious and diligent. As we grew up together, he successfully graduated from High School with good grades and proceeded to go to college. After graduating from college, he went to university to study a degree course to follow his dream. While studying full time he was working part time in order to cover his expenses. In addition, he attended unpaid work placements with major PR companies, which would be useful for him to secure a job once he graduated from university.<br />He graduated from university with a Merit grade, which he didn&rsquo;t expect. He was shocked and disappointed with the grades because the low grade meant that it might jeopardise his long term goal to become a PR Executive. But he remained hopeful that he could start a career somewhere in PR industry.<br />After sending thousands of applications and resumes for two years, he didn&rsquo;t find work in the media industry, so he decided to apply for jobs in the banking sector, as he had previously worked as a part time customer sales person. But it seemed he was running out of luck, as he could not find a full time job in the banking sector.<br />When he graduated, it was the start of the recession, which made it even more difficult for him to get a job in any sector. Like thousands of other graduates he was also the victim of the recession. After two years of searching for a full time job in all sectors, he was still jobless, although he worked as a part time customer service representative, which wasn&rsquo;t his ideal job.<br />During this period, he had been borrowing money from credit cards and banks as he used to hold an excellent credit scoring. But he was unaware that he had borrowed too much. Four years later, he was still working as a part time customer service representative for a company, and he was only earning just enough to cover his rent. He was really worried about his health when he realised that he had borrowed $60,000, which he could not pay back any time soon.<br />His only hope was to buy lottery tickets, if he could win a lottery to pay back his loans. Although he didn&rsquo;t consider himself lucky enough to win a lottery, he remained optimistic. Buying lottery tickets was giving him hope rather than anything else.<br />I had no idea that a degree course would cost you so much. If he had not followed his dream to study, he would not have been at the same position as he is now. Education is supposed to make your life better, not worse, but I have come across several people who have been left without hope after earning their degrees.<br />There is a question in my mind, after all those years: was it worth dreaming, spending most of your time and money in education?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In past centuries, a variety of art forms have taken the blame for society&#8217;s problems. From literature to religious texts, to jazz, rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll, and rap, to television, movies, and comic books, people have viewed various media as being responsible for personal failings, as if such media were like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, leading us astray from our natural goodness. Increasingly, in the past two decades, video games have been the scapegoat du jour. The video-game platform is the newest kid on the media block and, as such, is subject to a particularly high dose of suspicion and scrutiny. I think that this is wrong and, indeed, dangerous.</p>
<p>There has yet to be a study that can find any solid link between violent video games and people committing violent acts. So do video games really make us more violent? Youth violence often gets blamed on video games, but not other violence. In fact, violent video games may even reduce aggressiveness by acting as a safe outlet for anger and stress.</p>
<p>The battle over violence in video games has been going on since the 1970&rsquo;s, when a game called <i>Death Race</i> was released. The purpose of the game was to run over &ldquo;gremlins&rdquo; that many claimed looked too much like humans. Ironically, people protested by dragging <i>Death Race</i> machines out of arcades and burning them, that is violent in itself. Almost every time there is a major violent crime, the blame is placed mostly on video games, especially when youth are involved. There have been many attempts to pass legislation against violence in video games, with few being successful. In 1994 the video game industry voluntarily established the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) to try to avoid government involvement. As video games continue to become more realistic, so does the concern of the effects of such graphic violence.</p>
<p>One of the biggest concerns most people have about violence in video games is how they affect youth. Parents are concerned that children are playing video games that are too violent for their age. Whether violent video games effect teens and adults or not, many fear that younger children may be more easily influenced by the violence. If this is true, it should be the parents&rsquo; choice and responsibility to decide what they allow their children to play. Letting your child play with knives may not be in their best interest either, but there is no specific law against that. It is just common sense that the parents would not give knives to their child. Since there is little research that effectively decides if violent video games affect us, it is the parents&rsquo; choice to make. Video game historian Keith Feinstein notes that: &#8220;the Columbine shooters played with pipe bombs in their basement and no one stopped them from playing <i>Doom.</i> But no one stopped them from building pipe bombs in their basement, either&#8221;. As for the rest of us, we will not be turning into mass murderers anytime soon. Research has found some negative effects of video games pertaining to violence and aggression, but these effects are minimal, and are comparable to many other sources of violence in our society, &ldquo;some media-violence researchers recently published an article suggesting that reading passages from the Bible with violent content increases &#8220;aggression&#8221; in much the same way that video games supposedly do. So if video games have to be restricted from children, apparently so do at least some portions of the Bible&rdquo;, &ldquo;And, of course, videogames aren&#8217;t the only pastimes that could lead to aggression: dodgeball, paintball, and a bad beat in Texas Hold &#8216;Em can heighten arousal, too. Dr. Vincent Mathews, a radiologist at Indiana University who has studied the brain&#8217;s response to violent video games, suggests that the effects of these other activities would be comparable. &#8220;I would think that paintball or dodgeball would show similar results,&#8221; he says. &ldquo;But no one is calling for these games to be banned&rdquo;&rdquo;. &nbsp;We are surrounded by violence, so why pick on one source that is no worse than the rest?</p>
<p>There has been a lot of research done to try to prove violent video games do make us more violent. Many claim that their results show this is true. However, most studies have produced varied and inaccurate results. Publication bias is a huge issue, &ldquo;Admittedly, publication bias (the tendency to publish articles that support a hypothesis and not publish those that do not) is very likely a widespread problem in the social sciences and is not unique to video-game studies&rdquo;. In my own research I found it more difficult to find articles defending video games than I did articles that accused video games of more than just making us more violent. Publication bias can also be linked with over exaggeration, &ldquo;social scientists may be too prone to make big and frightening pronouncements from weak results&rdquo;. Other studies have been flawed due to factors like using outdated video games, &ldquo;Reading the fine print in the Dill and Anderson study, for example, reveals that the researchers used outdated, mismatched games and required an absurdly brief amount of actual playtime from the subjects&rdquo;. In addition, for some reason there has been very little long term research done. How can we possibly determine the effects video games have on us if we do not conduct studies that last for more than an one or two hours at a time? If there were to be any drastic effects of playing violent video games they would not all be instant. Dr. Dmitri Williams of the University of Illinois said &#8220;You can&#8217;t study people for 20 minutes and know what&#8217;s going to happen to people in society 10 years later&#8221;. Another obstacle that hinders any research done is the inability to replicate or allow for actual acts of serious violence. Although it would be effective, we can&rsquo;t give test subjects a loaded gun and see what they&rsquo;ll do with it after playing a video game for 10 minutes. &nbsp;&#8221;We can&#8217;t have people assault, rape, or murder someone&#8221; in the lab, says Dr. Brad Bushman, a University of Michigan psychologist who studies the effects of media violence. After sorting through all the studies that have been done, and take the above issues into consideration, there remains no significant proof of any link between playing violent video games and becoming more aggressive or violent, &ldquo;My meta-analysis concluded that there was no evidence to support either a causal or correlational relationship between video games and aggressive behavior&rdquo;.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; If video games have been accused of making us more violent for many years now, and no one has successfully been able to prove it, why are we still worried about it? To fully understand where this fear of violent video games came from, you must first understand who the people that have this fear are. Looking back in history, there has always been something that parents of a certain generation were afraid of because they thought it would harm the youth of that generation, &ldquo;Like Elvis in the 50s, or Dungeons &amp; Dragons in the 1980s, videogames are still viewed as the dangerous scourge of youth culture&rdquo;. It is mainly the last generation, who are unfamiliar with video games that blame them for the youth violence they see on the news. Many are intimidated of video games because they do not understand them and the complex culture and effects that surround them; &ldquo;when people are frightened, oversimplifying a complex problem becomes attractive as a quick, easy fix to an otherwise imposing cultural barrier&rdquo;, &ldquo;it is the underlying technology that frightens older generations who can&#8217;t comprehend the fast changing mechanics shaping the way the world interacts&rdquo;,&#8221;They do not understand the modern language. They become frightened of what they do not understand.&#8221; says video game historian Keith Feinstein. What a lot of people have forgotten is that it is not just youth who are playing violent video games. Many people in their twenties and thirties have grown up with video games and continue to play them. However when there is a violent crime committed by an adult, no one questions if video games are to blame, &ldquo;We are for some reason more interested in violence when it is committed by young people. But we didn&#8217;t ask what kind of music and video games Tim McVeigh [the Oklahoma City bomber] was into&rdquo; said Sociologist Karen Sternheimer, specializing in pop culture and youth at the University of Southern California. This is the perfect example of how we can blame video games for our problems without looking at the bigger picture. Violent video games have essentially been stereotyped.</p>
<p>One thing I have found odd about all this video game controversy is that we have overlooked our own intelligence. If we are smart enough to conduct studies about their effect on us, then are we not smart enough to know when a game is a game, and not to try to relive it in real life? &ldquo;Video games, like the rest of the media, form a faceless specter that we have called into being with our own internal desires for sex and violence, yet can turn against when we need a straw man to blame for our own recklessness&rdquo;, maybe we need to stop blaming video games, and take a look at ourselves: &ldquo;people who had previously filled out questionnaires reflecting an even-keel personality were less aggro after playing a violent game. Those who had a more aggressive disposition were more susceptible to these heightened emotions&rdquo;. So there is hope for our intelligence yet, it seems that violent people are more affected by violence in video games. Thus one can assume that people who commit violent crimes are just violent people, not mindless killers brainwashed by <i>Grand Theft Auto</i>. So what does that make the rest of us who play video games? Normal, &ldquo;The British Board of Film Classification conducted a survey that found that &#8220;the violence helps make the play exhilaratingly out of reach of ordinary life&#8230;. Gamers seem not to lose awareness that they are playing a game and do not mistake the game for real life.&#8221;.</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; What if we have this backwards? What if, instead of thinking violent video games causing us to replicate that violence in real life, replicating violence in video games actually stops us from committing said violence for real? It is not a completely absurd thought. Maybe when we are angry and feel like punching the next person who says something to us, we can go blow someone&rsquo;s head off in a video game and that will take the anger away. Although it probably depends on the type of person you are, I fully believe that taking your anger out on video games is very effective, as well as safe. I personally can relate to this. I also find playing all video games relaxing regardless of the level of violence in them. Now some people may agree with this, some may not, but there is one thing that may support this actually being true, &ldquo;The numbers do not lie. Violent crime is down, but violence in video games is up&rdquo;. Violent crimes have been going down over the same time period where video games have been growing more popular and more violent. No one knows if this is because video games help prevent real world violence or if the two facts are unrelated and just a coincidence, but how can video games be making us more violent if the facts prove the opposite? &ldquo;Could you imagine how far the debate on global warming would have gotten if the earth&#8217;s atmospheric temperatures were decreasing while pollutants were being released?&rdquo;</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; With all the research that has been done, it is still unclear if video games do make us more violent. What we do know is, if there are any effects at all, they are minimal. Since it remains a matter of opinion, the only thing we can do individually is make our own personal decision on what to play, and what to allow our children to play. Researcher Craig Anderson, chair of Iowa State University&#8217;s Department of Psychology said it best in my opinion, &ldquo;It&#8217;s society, not science, that must decide how to deal with the negative effects of violent video games&rdquo;. Is this going to stop me from playing video games with violence in them? No, so if you don&rsquo;t mind, I will now go back to peacefully playing <i>Call of Duty. </i></p>

<p>In this article I WILL generalize over all the courses/classes, but hang in there. &nbsp;I am a current student that attends a high school in the top 100 in the country. &nbsp; Let&#8217;s get started with the Pros.</p>
<p>Pros:&nbsp;</p>
<p>1) School opens us up to new ways of thinking and new ideas. &nbsp;This is an expansion in our growth that is necessary for us to understand what we want to be later on in life.</p>
<p>2) Gets you prepared for life&#8211;not really</p>
<p>As you can tell, I hate school, but I must say, the teachers are nice&#8211;for the most part, and my classmates are AWESOME!</p>
<p>Cons:</p>
<p>1) School KILLS creativity and Imaginitive thinking. &nbsp;I used to be the most creative kid ever. &nbsp;Then once school, high school came around, I lost virtually all creativity. &nbsp;</p>
<p>2) School can be too long to the point where some classes seem pointless and students don&#8217;t care about them. &nbsp;This can have an effect which decreases grades over a period of time in those afternoon classes. &nbsp;</p>
<p>3) School always contradicts itself! &nbsp;The school policy this, the school policy that, but then if the teacher wants to do something that is restricted by the school policy, they can do it, thus breaking the school policy that they refer to? &nbsp;So I the student have to follow the policy strictly, but you the teacher can bend the rules? &nbsp;Does that seem fair? &nbsp;Does that contradict itself? If school contradicts itself&#8230; then what is the point? &nbsp;What does it teach me?</p>
<p>4) Classes like Precalculus and Calculus, Biology, etc. can be way, way, to complicated for some. &nbsp;I finished Precalc and Bio with a C-. &nbsp;According to everyone I am an A student? Why is this C- here then? &nbsp;My point is, is that some classes, especially some math classes are just flat out unimportant. &nbsp;The goal of Precalc is to get the students to get used to new things&#8230; Well, for one, this new &#8220;thing&#8221; is killing my GPA, and this new &#8220;thing&#8221; is not relevant to the World at ALL!</p>
<p>5) Teachers is my next point&#8230; Some of my teachers are too smart to be teachers. &nbsp;If that doesn&#8217;t make sense, it is kind of like this&#8230; I am learning new material&#8230; The teacher rushes through it and I don&#8217;t learn a thing. The next day when we have a quiz and fail it, the teacher is upset? &nbsp;I tell them I didn&#8217;t understand one word you said the other day&#8230; They have freaked out and gotten mad at me for not comprehending something completely new to me, but old to them&#8230; Sorry</p>
<p>6) Finally, there are a lot more reasons why school is bad and I will end it with this&#8230; Some schools, my school, gives out stats and numbers that are missing a lot of the picture. &nbsp;One survey is for the Freshmen and Senior classes. &nbsp;It is a survey which asks&#8230; Do you drink on a typical 5 day week? the answer this year is that 83% of students don&#8217;t drink in a typical week. &nbsp;Okay? What about the Sophomores and Juniors, also, what about the weekends? &nbsp;</p>
<p>School, and Schools, sorry for blanching your reputation. I hate School. But love the people!</p>

<p>Finally, daily homework makes students autonomous learners, which is the process of above habit formation. Those who are dependent on homework will become independent gradually. That is, they study independently despite not being homework, because they regard homework as motivation to study, not&nbsp;an&nbsp;obligation. Autonomous students try to learn many things efficiently and participate in every activity, whether inside or outside the classroom.<br />In conclusion, daily homework is helpful to complement&nbsp;the&nbsp;student&#8217;s insufficient understanding of the lesson hours, to form studying habit, and&nbsp;to&nbsp;make autonomous learners. If teachers give optimal homework to students, they do their homeworkwithout&nbsp;overwhelming. They can enjoy studying so soon.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><p>Everyone wants their child to do well in school. But, new research suggests that telling children that failure isn&rsquo;t the end of the world might actually improve a child&rsquo;s school performance.</p>
<p>The research, conducted in France, suggests that children may perform better in school and feel more confident about themselves if they are told that failure is a normal part of learning, rather than being pressured to succeed at all costs.</p>
<p>The researchers say they focused on a widespread cultural belief that equates academic success with a high level of competence and failure with intellectual inferiority.</p>
<p>According to the study, &#8220;by being obsessed with success, students are afraid to fail, so they are reluctant to take difficult steps to master new material. Acknowledging that difficulty is a crucial part of learning could stop a vicious circle in which difficulty creates feelings of incompetence that in turn disrupts learning.&#8221;</p>
<p>The research suggests that people usually believe that academic achievement simply mirrors students&#8217; inherent academic ability, which can be difficult to change. But teachers and parents may be able to help students succeed just by changing the way in which the material is presented.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Three Experiments Conducted</strong></p>
<p>To prove their theory, the researchers recruited 111 French sixth graders. Each of the students were given very difficult word problems to solve &ndash; so difficult that it was certain none of them would be able to answer them. Next, a researcher talked to the students about the difficulty of the problems. One group was told that learning is difficult and failure is common, but practice will help, just like learning how to ride a bicycle. Children in a second group were just asked how they tried to solve the problems. The students then took a test that measures working memory capacity, a key cognitive ability for storing and processing incoming information. Working memory capacity is a good predictor of many aspects of academic achievement, including reading comprehension, problem solving and IQ. The students who were told that learning is difficult performed significantly better on the working memory test, especially on more difficult problems, than the second group or a third control group who took the working memory test without doing the anagrams or discussions with researchers.</p>
<p><strong>Thinking About Failure</strong></p>
<p>In a second experiment with 131 sixth graders the researchers presented a similar procedure with the difficult anagrams and discussions with a researcher. An additional group of students took a simpler anagram test that could be solved, and this group was not told that learning is difficult. All of the students then completed a reading comprehension test. The children who were told that learning is difficult scored higher than the other groups, including the students who had just succeeded on the simple test. How students think about failure may be more important than their own success when learning challenging skills, the study concluded.</p>
<p>In a third experiment with 68 sixth graders measured reading comprehension and asked questions that measured students&#8217; feelings about their own academic competence. The group that was told that learning is difficult performed better in reading comprehension and reported fewer feelings of incompetence.</p>
<p>The study noted that the students&#8217; improvement on the tests most likely was temporary, but the results showed that working memory capacity may be improved simply by boosting students&#8217; confidence and reducing their fear of failure.</p>
<p>The researchers concluded that their research suggests that students will benefit from education that gives them room to struggle with difficulty and that teachers and parents should emphasize children&#8217;s progress rather than focusing solely on grades and test scores.</p>
<p>Learning takes time and each step in the process should be rewarded, especially at early stages when students most likely will experience failure, they said.</p>

It affects every part of life. Therefore, the goals of education of each country in the world are very various following what aspects that country needs to be improved.</p>
<p>In a smaller area, students, as the objects of education, also have certain aims of academic study. Commonly, these aims are the underlying reasons why they study and those aims constitute strong-self motivations for them. Certainly, the aims of academic study from one student to another are different because it can be influenced by their personal needs and dreams.</p>

<p>Students who are studying at elementary school, junior and senior high school levels generally dream of getting into prestigous schools. Practically, some people may think that where we study study is the measurement of our intelligence and dignity. For instance, students studying in international schools will be considered smarter than those studying in regular schools. Although this example seems rather confusng, a majority of students and parents maintain the assumption that getting into prestigous schools means gaining more prestigious positions in society, at least among their children&#8217;s friends. Additionally, a few students may go to school or study only to pass certain exams merely.</p>
<p>In the opposite, adult students study to change their life condition, find new knowledege and win certain awards. It is undeniable that good academic achievements can bring the students to good jobs. In this instance, unfortunate people usually struggle and work harder than other people in the courses they are studying on to be able to alter their family life or even their society.</p>

But how do we&nbsp; remain creative, retain more of what we read, and raise our mental capabilities? New research says we can.  The idea that IQ was  unchangeable after early childhood has proven wrong. And not just by a few points but by 21 points. IQ is measured by a whole battery of tests that catches a wide range of skills from verbal to cognitive and beyond. 21 points is a huge difference. If a person went from an IQ of 100 to 120 they would go from being average to gifted.</p>

<p>Cathy Price, scientist at University College of London believes it holds true for everyone of all ages. Price and her colleagues documented how IQ changes are linked to structural changes in the brain. In the 39 percent of subjects whose verbal IQ changed greatly, before and after brain scans showed a change in the density and volume of gray matter in the region of the left motor cortex that is activated by naming, speaking and reading. As did the density of gray matter in the cerebellum that&#8217;s associated with moving the hand. This was unexpected and no one knows exactly why. It may be that the two brain systems are more connected than thought.</p>
<p>Some ways to gain more brain power and get smarter is to play word games. It reduces the risk of Alzheimer&#8217;s and dementia.</p>
<p>Join a knitting circle. Refining motor skills can bolster cognitive skills. Frowning makes your more analytic in your thinking.</p>
<p>Master one task you really enjoy.</p>
<p>Write reviews online when you see something you like or hate. Typing your opinions will help you understand your own thinking.</p>
<p>Eat Turmeric. It contains curcumin which reduces the risk of dementia.</p>
<p>Learn new things. Take up new hobbies and read books out of the ordinary.</p>
<p>Toss your smartphone. Constantly checking emails zaps your productivity.</p>
<p>Drink plenty of water. Dehydration forces the brain to work harder which slows it&#8217;s planning ability.</p>
<p>Write by hand. Brain scans show that handwriting engages more sections of the brain than typing.</p>
<p>Eat yogurt. Probiotics are good for your stomach and for your brain.</p>
<p>Play action based games.</p>
<p>Walking 30 minutes five days a week stimulates production of a molecule that increases brain power.</p>
<p>Read Shakespeare. It has been shown to engage the brain more than most other books.</p>
<p>Play an instrument. Learning to play an instrument boosts the IQ and increases activity in parts of the brain that controls memory and coordination.</p>
<p>Take a nap. A midday nap can restore brain power to it&#8217;s best and raise it beyond. Letting your mind go blank or day dreaming also leaves you renewed.</p>
