How to do so.

If you’re in your final year, or approaching it, at University, then you might be starting to think about what you could do as your dissertation. The question that you choose is going to be with you for the whole year, and you are going to have to work very hard on it, so it is very important that you end up making the right choice or it is something that you might regret in the future. This article will help you to think of ways in which you can choose your question without having to think that it is completely taking over your life.

The first thing that you have to remember is that you should never let anybody influence your final decisions. Of course, you should respect the opinions of your supervisor as they know a lot more about what will gain you marks than you do, but at the end of the day it is you who is going to have to do the project, and this means that you have to make sure that you are doing it on something that you understand and care about.

Choose the right supervisor AND the right subject. Although you might choose a supervisor based on which subject you would like to do, there isn’t all that much point in choosing somebody who you know that you have struggled to work for in the past, as this will make things difficult for you. In the same way, you should not choose a subject based upon the supervisor that you would like to have, as you have to be really interested in the thing that you’re doing otherwise you’re going to hate every minute of having to put so much work into it.

Research. Of course, by this point in your degree you should about the things that interest you, but a dissertation is all about finding a gap in the research; finding a new angle to look at something that has never been considered before, and this is something that you need to think about. However, you don’t want it to be so innovative that there is no previous research on which you can base an opinion, so you have to make sure that you’re not being “clever” to the point of shooting yourself in the foot.

Don’t be scared to change your mind. Once you’ve got an idea in your head, you don’t have to stick with it until you’ve submitted your form to gain approval from the ethics board. You can change your mind as many times as you like up until this point, and this is certainly something that you shouldn’t be worried about having to do. It is much better to take the decision to change your mind now and then enjoy the project that you’re doing rather than end up being stuck on an idea that is absolutely no interest to you at all.

Choosing A Course of Study.

You must have heard the classical question, “Which is better, rose or cabbage?” Some may be tempted to say that the rose is better, little, realising that it is a poor option when you contemplate a dish for the dinner. A course of study that matches a person well may be totally unsuitable for another. In this age of intense competition, the rule of survival of the fittest reigns almost everywhere. We should therefore make careful efforts for identifying the best possible career.

There are several factors that would determine the best option of academic programme for a person. The important among them are indicated below.

1. Aptitude of the student :Unfortunately this vital aspect is often ignored. Parents may decide courses based on their unfulfilled dreams, or the successful career of someone who they know. This is not sound approach. If a child is pushed into a field of study in which he has no interest or aptitude, he may struggle to survive there; but he would go on cursing his lot throughout his lifetime. We should t not forget that each individual has an independent identity.

2. Learning ability of the student: Many parents force their children into courses that they cannot pursue effectively or want of adequate learning ability.

Perhaps they would perform far better in an area that matches their gifts.

3. Financial capacity of the family: Even though there are opportunities for scholarships or bank loans, certain programmes can be pursued only if the family has adequate financial resources. Training as an airline pilot or studies overseas are examples.

4. Prospects for higher education: There are programmes of a terminal nature, offering hardly any opportunity for further studies. These may be preferred by those who do not nurture academic ambitions, but look for an early job. Those who have a burning desire to go to the very top through further academic pursuits should plan accordingly, while choosing their discipline.

5. Duration of the course: Some may prefer short programs of 12 or 15 months, whereas others may choose long programs like five-year integrated courses.

6. Proximity of institution: Very often parents prefer to send their wards to institutions near their home for reasons of convenience or expenses.

7. Reputation of the institution: Some may choose to go to centers of excellence, even if they have to go far away from their homes or meet heavy expenses.

8. Gender factor: Notwithstanding the arguments for gender equality, it is well-known that certain professions are more suitable for girls than for boys. Some others may suit boys better. Most others may suit either. As an illustration, it may be noted that girls are not usually admitted to mining engineering courses. Nursing is mostly a female preserve, though there are male nurses as well.

9. Market value of the course: This is a factor which would change with time, depending on the trends in the industry or social attitudes. Though none can predict accurately the vicissitudes of any discipline of study, it is possible to make intelligent guesses based on projections.

10. Quick employ ability: The most important criterion in most cases is the possibility for early placement. Institutions of repute attract employers for campus recruitment that saves the students from tedious job hunt after graduation.

The diverse criteria for course selection detailed above have to be considered and wisely analysed before fixing the path for any student. The decision in the matter of higher professional education has to be participatory, counting the views of the student as well. Parents should curb the inclination to force their whims on their wards. They should however take pains to garner detailed information on courses that may suit their children. Youngsters may be tempted by charming labels of courses, without fully realising what is ahead if they proceed with their blind preferences. ‘Look before you leap’ should guide them. The decision should not be hasty. The time spent on gathering details is never a waste.

Identifying an institution

Any decision on the college of preference should be based on the following aspects.

1 .Style, duration, and entry qualification of courses

2.Institutions as well as centres of excellence that run the programmes of your choice

3.Academic history, past performance, and reputation of the institution

4.Academic ambience in the institution

5.lnfrastructural facilities such as reputed faculty, laboratory, workshops,

and library.

6.Recognition of the institution /course by the Government / University / Board/ Council concerned

7.Management style of the institution

8.Positions attained by the alumni of the institution

9.Possibilities for campus recruitment

10.Proximity of the institution to your home

11 .Accessibility of the institution

12.Fees and other items of expenditure involved

13.Hostel facilities

14.Discipline and security allies of Life

We can have differences in relations and can feel bad sometimes. But there is no difference that can not be sorted out with discussions.

Relationship

That is too tricky and complicated one to understand about relationships in a short meeting this is a very sensitive issue and needs a detailed outlook on that. Because I think however different and opposite you two are, there have got to be so many things those you share together and they make you feel, you are made for each other. Arguments bring you closer when you get to know each other better.

Of course, the very things that draw a person to another can cause tension at times. A lot of understanding and compromises may be necessary to preserve the special nature of the relationship. After every argument and misunderstanding, I know we both learn something from each other.

I am sure taking this subject lightly may create many misunderstandings in between the partners. Therefore, I suggest this needs a sitting together and sorting out the differences forever.

There are things that make people uncomfortable if you talk about them. And I'm not even talking about cannibalism or lab experiments on humans or the Holocaust. More common things, things that we (the little people) live with in our society today, yet we ban them from conversations even though they pose no personal threat to us whatsoever.

Only our human race could have limited itself enough to avoid talking about certain topics on a regular basis and a global level. Topics that make people feel uncomfortable, taboo topics. And while there are certain rules (which I’m all for) that supposedly keep our society a mentally stable environment to live in, somehow we manage to sometimes focus on the… wrong things.

Sometimes I just can’t understand how human minds work.

I can’t understand how using the F word is frowned upon in most parts of the world, yet a movie like “The Human Centipede” is too good to be banned everywhere because it’s a movie, therefore it must be some form of art. If it’s art, put it in a gallery, not in movie theaters where so many people regularly go. There IS obscene art shown in galleries, yet not many get to actually see it. Perhaps fate has a good reason for that.

But God forbid a kid hearing the F word! I mean a kid hears the F word, next thing you know he’s hanging his dog in the basement and cutting his little sister’s arm off with a rusty knife. We NEVER want that, so stop cursing.

“Mom, I’m going to the movies.”

“Okay.”

We needn’t worry, that kid didn’t hear the word f*ck all day, nothing can touch him.

I could probably write a book about this, but I’ll be brief and present my point of view in a short way:

The F word – censored and frowned upon everywhere. –> Physical torture and gore mutilation – hot topic

Abortion – taboo. –> Miserable life in orphanages – let’s talk about it and educate the world.

How much you weigh – how dare you ask?! –> Starving children in Africa – it’s like talking about the weather.

Gay rights – walking on thin ice, let’s talk about something else –> Domestic abuse – almost too common, makes the news every day.

For example, physical and moral abuse in families happen way too often, in every corner of the world. We know it’s wrong (however sometimes we call it ‘education’), we have laws against it, we have organizations that handle such situations, yet nobody forbids two straight people to get married and have a child as long as that follows a simple set of rules. I say several-hour interviews should be held with every single couple who decides to get married. They should fill out forms, take classes, go on marriage camps, be handed a temporary child to see how that works out and be kept under close observations for 4-12 weeks before allowing them to get married once they pass the final exam with a score of at least 80%. Here’s why. A lot of the times, a couple gets married because of the following reasons: financial (business purposes, papers or other benefits), social (everyone else is married or tradition requires it) or stupidity (I’m 16 but I’m ready and I don’t give a damn). Not every relationship deserves to be upgraded, and once you’re married, it’s a lot harder to get out of it.

If we would work on spotting unhappy cases at an early stage, we might not have so many cases of domestic abuse and marriage failures in the future.

But yeah…two guys or two women getting married…oh my, stop THAT crazy sh*t and shut the f*** up!

If you see what I mean, you’ll know I’m right. Allright, I’m kidding, you don’t have to agree with me, but I still stand firm when I say this: a lot of today’s taboo topics are taboo for no reason. If you feel comfortable talking about how people die of starvation and how much that sucks, I don’t see how something like “How much do you weigh?” could offend you. Sue me. Say it’s something personal and then think that in my state of retardation, I can never be able to approximate your weight just by looking at you anyway.

Thing is, we need to talk about things. We need to be able to talk about abortion just as freely as we do about life in orphanages and its consequences. Avoiding these topics of conversation (which are not even that extreme, let’s be honest) won’t change things and make them better. We generally don’t talk about the legalization of gay marriage with just about anyone because it’s a sensitive matter which can’t be approached that easily. My question is: why? We all have different opinions anyway, we’re people. I say talk about it the way you talk about that man on the news who raped his daughter: freely (because if you can cover THAT, I’m sure you’ll do fine with the gays).

Cheers!

Object (from Lat. Objectum – subject, of objicio – throw forward, contrasts) – this is what resists the subject (from Lat. Subjectum – put the bottom, one that is in the basis of sub – under and jacio – throw, lay a basis) in its subject-practical and cognitive activity. The object of philosophy is not simply identical with objective reality of the object – this is an area of objective reality, which is in collaboration with the subject. Just select the object by using knowledge of forms of practical and cognitive activities that are created by society. Perfect reproduction of the object in the system of concepts, etc. is made possible by the application subject to certain ways of cognitive activity, logical operations. Study operations, in turn, determined the object, its nature. The object of philosophy – a certain material and spiritual world that exists independently of philosophers and yet includes them in their world.
An interaction in this subject-speaking native of practice and knowledge, a source of activity, aimed at an object, the subject can be understood in society, social group or individual. That subject, interacting with the object forms a research subject, in this case – Philosophy.
The subject of philosophy – a category by which fixed some integrity, isolated from a subject object in the human subject-practice and knowledge. In contrast zahalnohnoseolohichnomu terms subject and object are relative. The main structural difference from the subject facility is the subject of philosophy that includes only the main, most important properties and features of reality.
The subject of philosophy is the concrete historical character, it changes from one historical era to another, from one socio-economic formation to another, from certain regional civilization, culture – to the second. He “moved” by the object layer from simple to complex, from knowledge of the nature of the first order to the knowledge of the essence of the second order, etc., it opens all new depth and “continents” of nature, society and the human world.
Object and subject of philosophy are the dialectical unity. Active, positive activities most people physical and mental work along with the negative, destructive, destructive activities of the modern “hlobalizatoriv and their assistants affect both the object and subject and object of study.
The object of philosophy is universal and general studies specifically historical entities, laws and laws of nature and human society, its activities – awareness.
How to get your head around this somewhat confusing concept.

If you are learning a language like German, French or Greek you are going to NEED to know this. The nominative case is the subject of a sentence and the accusative case is the direct object. The subject is the thing you are talking about, whereas the direct object is the thing that is being affected by the subject.

Here is an example of a sentence involving these concepts.

The shark eats the fish.

The shark is the nominative case as it is doing the eating. The fish is the accusative because it is being affected by the subject, or the shark. The word in italics is simply the verb that joins the cases together.

Here is another example.

The boy climbs the tree.

This is very much the same as the first example as the boy is the subject and the tree is the direct object.

If you can understand this you should be able to continue through this aspect of languages with ease.

Please like this if you found it helpful, comments are also welcome.

If you are starting university, or has a child who is starting university, then no doubt there will be a lot of questions you feel you need to ask. I have been conducting research for several months now with regards to common issues, and will try to present my findings to you in a Q&A format.

Do I NEED to go to university?

The thing that you must get clear to yourself first of all is whether or not you WANT to go to university. It can be a very expensive time, and especially during the current financial climate, you should not take any financial decision lightly.

It is possible to get a good job through other paths, such as apprenticeships and other courses, many of which could be taken at your local college. It is upto you to make the decision, nobody apart from you know properly what you want to do with your life.

I’m not sure whether I want to go, but my parents want me to.

A lot of money gets wasted by individuals who start university for the wrong reasons, then find that they don’t like it, and drop out during the course. It is important to realise that while you respect your parent’s opinions, it is only you that has to do the course, and if you are not 100% happy with it you should not go ahead. This is your life path, and it is immensely important for you to take the path that pleases you, rather than one that you think will please other people.

How do I know which course is right for me?

All that I can really say about this question is that you will just ”know”. Going to university means (or should mean) that you have such a passion for a particular subject that you wish to devote your whole career towards it. If you are just picking a subject for the sake of going to university, then I would say that perhaps you were going down the wrong route.

Once you have decided which course you would like to do, you need to find out which establishments run the course. Different places will have different methods of assessment, different timetable setups and different campus layouts; all of which you must take into account before deciding which establishment you would like to study at.

I’ve picked my course, so how do I choose my university?

If you’re not one of the lucky people who has always known where you would like to go, read on. Everyone is different in this respect, but you should have a pretty good idea whether you would prefer to stay close to home or whether you would prefer to move away. From this, you will be able to create a shortlist of the places that run your course within the distance you wish to study from home.

It is important to go on as many open days as you can without disrupting your current study scheduale. You can never make a decision about a place that you haven’t seen. Most universitys hold several open days throughout the year, and many are at weekends, meaning that you won’t have to miss college to go to them. Whilst there, you should ask as many questions as you can, and go on all of the tours that they have on offer to you. You need to get as clear a picture as you can of the university so that you can make a shortlist of about 5 places that you would wish to go to.

When you have done this, you should begin to take other things into account. How close is it to the nightlife or shops for example? Is there a local shop for you to buy food, and anything you may need urgently? Some places are also a lot more expensive than others, and this is something that you might like to check out, as it may have an impact on your decision.

With regards to grades, you should pick one which you would have to work to get into, but not kill yourself to get the grades. You will gain nothing by putting yourself under immense amounts of pressure, and if you do, it may have a negative overall effect anyway.

How much does university cost?

A guideline amount from my own experience and experiences of others is that university will cost in the region of £10,000 per year. This may sound a lot, so I will explain how it gets to this amount.

Course Fees: £3,125 per year (currently, but this may rise.)

Accommodation costs: £4,000 per year (depending on where you live this could be a lot higher.)

Living Expenses: £3,000 per year (includes food, books, bills, course materials and leisure activities.)

That sounds like a lot.. will I be able to afford it?

That is the average that a student will pay per year, but if you don’t think that you will be able to afford that much then don’t worry, there are things that you will be able to do to help.

Accommodation costs often depend on whether you live in halls or private accommodation. Obviously, if you live at home during your degree, then these costs will be considerably cut, so you could reduce your annual outgoings by up to £4,000. Universitys usually have a range of accommodation available, offering things such as en-suite bathrooms and larger beds to boost their prices up. You should have a look at the cheapest accommodation and see whether you could be comfortable in it. If the answer is yes, then this is the easiest option, as it means that you would save a little money.

You can get a student loan to help your expenses. You can borrow your entire course fees, and around £3,000 extra to help you afford to live. As you can see, this may not even be enough to cover your rent, so it would be helpful if you had some money saved already (I will talk about this in a moment) but the loan is certainly a large help. You can borrow this amount each year, and only have to pay it back when you’re earning over £15,000 per year, and even then it is in such small amounts that you probably wouldn’t even notice it leaving your bank account. If you still owe money 25 years after you finish your degree, all debt is written off- so you wouldn’t be in debt for the rest of your life whether you managed to pay it off eventually or not.

Your bank may agree an interest free overdraft while you are a student. You would have to speak to various banks and see what they can offer you, but this may be a helpful thing to do if you need a little bit of extra help.

If at all possible, you should save little bits of cash before you start university. Ideally, you should start as early as you can, but even if you’ve left it until the summer before you leave, you still have time to make a fair amount. If you get a small job for a couple of shifts per week and save the money from it, you will find that it has built up to a helpful amount by the time you start university in the September. Even better, if you can keep a small job going whilst you are doing your course, then this will be an even bigger help!

What do I need to take with me?

Your first day at university will feel as though you are taking everything you own with you! You do need a lot, but if you stick to this list, it will not feel so bad. A lot of places do sales just before the start of term, aimed at university students, so keep your eyes open for these.

-Clothes: t-shirts, jeans, a couple of smart outfits, outfits for going out, shoes, trainers, boots.

-Food: You would be better going shopping for food when you’ve been able to work out how much room you have in your fridge and freezer. It’s good to stock up on a lot of freezer food, and foods with long expiry dates like pasta, rice and noodles. This way, you should always have something in when you need it.

-Kitchen: Plates, cutlery, pans, cups, tin opener, bottle opener, scissors, sieve, jug, sponges, washing up liquid.

-Toiletries: Soap, shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, sponge, flannel, sanitary products, razors.

-Entertainment: (not necessary, but a lot of people like to bring these things) TV (license probably needed), games console, music player, books

Will I get on with my flatmates?

Chances are, you will get along with everyone for the first week or so. Then, you may find that you have more in common with some of them than with others, but that’s just a fact of life. There will be people that you get on with and form great friendships with, and there will be others who you won’t be able to stand by the end of the year. It’s important that you’re mature in situations which may arise, and try to keep the peace as much as you can. Afterall, these are the people you will be living with for at least one year of your life!

What if I can’t make friends?

Out of the thousands of people that I know who have attended university, not one of them has had any problems making friends. If you think about it, everyone who is starting university at the same time as you is in the same boat. They will be worried about the same things as you, and will be hoping that they get along with you just as much as you’re hoping that you get on with them.

Fresher’s week is an amazing time to make friends, as you will all be out exploring your new location with each other, and all sharing the same experiences. Be prepared to answer the same questions over and over again (where are you from, what course are you doing, where are you living..) during the first week or so, as these are the major conversation openers!

Another great place to make friends is on your course. From the fact that people are on the same course as you, you know already that you have something in common with them. This means that you will at least have something to talk with them about, even if it’s only the subject of the first assignment!

Will I get homesick?

No matter what everyone may say, I strongly believe that everyone has a point during the first couple of weeks at university that they get a little homesick. This is normal, and it will pass. You can still keep in contact with people at home to let them know how you’re doing, and you can always arrange to go and see them at weekends or in the holidays. If you are feeling homesick, you should try talking to your flatmates about it, as chances are they may be feeling exactly the same as you!

Why Should We Study Psychology? The Psychology of Everyday Life

Preliminary Insights on the Course

There is a basic course in Psychology called Psychology of Everyday Life. It is a start-up course for Psychology majors or minors, and it’s also offered as an elective subject or general education subject, to students of any other courses. If you’re in college, you might want to take up Psychology of Everyday Life, even if you’re not at all interested in Psychology; rather if you’re interested in Life in general then it’s highly recommended.

Psychology of Everyday Life is (one of) the most helpful course(s) for all college students. Personally, it has given me an illuminating perspective:

The course (or any other basic Psychology course) is a highly worthwhile study. The course title and course description already say so much about it. Psychology of Everyday Life. And though most students (including me) would seem to get easily bored in any classroom discussions about the higher Psychology courses, this doesn’t mean that studying even just one (basic) course in Psychology would prove as ever uninteresting and useless. Although it seems we could never get and appreciate some of the (grave) concepts of Psychology, it is most likely that when we finally go out there living our real lives that we would be able to recognize the relevance of studying Psychology, in our common tasks and perhaps even in our most uncanny moments.

Lucky for me because I took up the elective because I heard a likeable professor was the one teaching. And she did make the course interesting; or rather, she made the students finally realize the value of taking up the course. She made everything interactive.

So as we started with our lessons, I began relating with the course’s issues and concerns.

The first idea that struck me was the Iceberg Theory. It made me realize that indeed most people only see the surface of the “iceberg.” Often we only see the surface of other’s behaviors, as well as of our own selves. This first class lecture gave me a glimpse of the task of Psychology, which most people often take for granted. After taking up the subject, I gained a new and better approach in dealing with other people’s (and my own) emotions, beliefs, behaviors, and actions. I learned how not to be easily deceived by appearances, and, to try-reading between the lines.

Also aside from the Psychology of Love and Attraction (probably most of the freshmen students’ favorite section), I was also able to appreciate the topics on Psychology and Learning. I think this one focus is the shining glory for the students (of different majors) taking up the course.

So about the Psychology and Learning segment of the course, the preliminary issue presented to us was if whether all or some “Strategies” stimulate learning or un-learning. In the end, all students understood the principles and reached the same conclusion: You take up (any) Strategies therefore, you Learn. Adapting Strategies is Learning, because though initially, our intention for using Strategies is to just enable us to work or think or act more efficiently, eventually as we settle to do things according to a chosen technique, we also learn or discover whether the strategy is useful or whether other techniques would be more effective. Even when most people would just settle with the conventional ways of thinking or doing things, consequently, at one time in our lives we would all be confronted by a new challenge, demanding us to be more resourceful and to search for more strategies to better help us.

As a college student I was able to apply this concept in improving my study strategies; But in time this also gave me a more significant insight. It gave me an explanation as to what has been the goal of Science.

Through time, irrational conventions (or ineffective) beliefs or ways eventually become replaced by better ones. This is when Science and research comes in, after learning and discovering better systems (or strategies) compared to totally unproductive customs or practices.*

Psychology or strategizing or applying science – sheds learning and gives us options or better ways of thinking or doing things. In fact, this broadens both our intellectual and cultural horizons, challenging us to analyze our behavior, actions, our culture, as well as of others, and in the end allowing us to embrace more effective methods to help us adapt more comfortably to our social environment. For me this is the real meaning of Psychology, the Psychology of Everyday Life.
