Singkarak Lake is the second largest lake after Lake Toba in Sumatra, Indonesia. The lake is located in two districts in West Sumatra province, the District of Solok and Tanah Datar. According to the folklore, the lake that is also the upstream of Ombilin Batang river used to be a vast sea. But due to an extraordinary event, the sea water receded. The following story tells the events that led to the decline of the Singkarak lake water.
