A review of the new series of Being Human, summarising the previous three series and introducing the new characters featured in Series Four.

Being Human is a BBC television series in which a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost share a house. The fourth series has just started in the UK and, if you’ve never seen it before, bear with me, it really does work.

Series 1 took us through how the three main characters met and drifted into sharing a house together. We have Mitchell, a handsome 120-year old vampire, George a geeky newly-converted werewolf and Annie, a confused and unhappy ghost. The being human of the title concerns the efforts of our heroes to be normal, to be, as far as supernatural creatures can be, human. In Mitchell’s case this means restraining himself from the urge to rip people’s throats open and drink their blood and, for George, it is the need to avoid tearing apart anyone within reach every full moon.

All three series have given us some gripping drama, covering profound issues of life and death, good and evil, tolerance and prejudice and a pondering of what it is to be human. There’s comedy too; very dark, but also very funny. The humour comes from the frequent incongruity of the human and supernatural worlds existing alongside each other and from the mundane reality of house sharing. Would you tell a powerful, formerly murderous, vampire to do his own bloody washing up? The programme also benefits from having three central characters who are all pretty damn sexy!

Original cast: Mitchell (Aidan Turner), George (Russell Tovey) and Annie (Lenora Crichlow)

So far Being Humanhas taken us through the back-story of the three main characters and, in Series 1, shown us the attempts of the evil vampires to tempt Mitchell, their former poster boy, away from his new friends back to his old, bloodsucking ways. In Series 2 sees George falling in love with a girl called Lucy who, we later learn, is in thrall to the leader of a sinister sect that wants to destroy all supernatural beings. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Annie are falling in love. By Series 3 Mitchell and Annie are so deeply in love that he goes into purgatory, quite literally, to save her. George, meanwhile, falls in love with Nina, accidentally coverts her into a werewolf and then gets her pregnant . At the conclusion of the series, Mitchell persuades George to kill him, to save Mitchell from himself and the world from Mitchell. At the end of a very busy day for George, Nina is also killed, but their baby survives.

The opening episode of Series 4 was about moving on from the demise of three of the previous mainstays of the show: Mitchell, George’s girlfriend Nina and the evil, wise-cracking vampire leader, Herrick. We are also introduced to a new character, Hal; clearly a direct replacement for Mitchell. Played by Damien Moloney, Hal is an urbane, soft-spoken vampire and, we learn, is one of the legendary ‘old ones’. Back to the happy house-sharing trio, then? Not quite. George is still around for now, but actor Russell Tovey wants to leave the show so his character is being eased out. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, and into George’s shoes steps Tom (Michael Socha). Tom was previously best supporting werewolf in Series 3, (surely that should be a new Oscars category?). He is now the main (wolf) man. Watch out Hal, this doggie ain’t too fond of vampires.

Series 4 Cast: Hal (Damien Moloney), Annie (Lenora Crichlow) and Tom (Michael Socha).

Note that a brooding, wraith-like George (Russell Tovey) hovers at the margins

In the series opener, the vampires are on the warpath, literally. They have decided that enough is enough and it’s time they made war on humankind; killing most of us, converting some and enslaving the rest, presumably as blood donors. Not sure how they work out who goes into which category, but I assume the selection process will be equal opportunities compliant.

George and Nina’s new baby daughter will feature in this series too. It is broadly hinted that she will be the saviour of the world. George, after more brooding, calls her Eve. Pretty heavy on the biblical allegory there, one has to say. And is it just me, or is there some political comment in there too? Why else is the leader of the evil vampires, Herrick’s replacement, called Griffin?

I can’t wait to get my teeth into the rest of the series. Watch it!

Being Human plays on BBC 3 television on Sundays at 9.00 pm

Movie Review for Underworld Awakening (2012)

As a fan of the Underworld films, I was not in the least bit disappointed by the latest output of the franchise, Underworld Awakening. Not only is the film loyal to the characters and plot of the first two films, expanding upon the growing mythology and storyline, but it is also an added perk to see real vampires and werewolves ripping each other apart in movies again.

What began in the first film as a battle solely between Vampires and Lycan has now evolved into a fight for both species’ survival when humans discover their existence and decide (very un-True Blood like) that eradication is the only solution. Kate Beckinsale returns once again as Selene, our heroin from the first two films. She begins the movie with an onslaught of unique battle scenes, fleeing from the human aggressors, and clever camera angles that are nicely complimented by the 3D experience. After a brief memory blurb, explaining the details of the new state of mortal paranoia, she is caught by the pesky humans and finds herself twelve years later in a research facility being subjected to experimentation.

Of course, with unknown help, Selene quickly escapes and proceeds into an unfamiliar world that she must adapt in, where her species no longer lives in luxury and safety. Equipped with the added strength she had gained in Evolution, from Alexander Corvinus, she quickly shows that she has grown from the naïve Death Dealer from the first film into a strong not easily eclipsed character. (Eat your heart out Bella Swan… even when you do become a vampire).

Selene must attempt to discover what has happened to Michael in the time she has laid dormant and she finds that she is not the only thing experimented on within the facility she broke free from. With most of the characters from the original films long since fully deceased, a new set of allies and enemies are presented to fill their shoes.

If I had a complaint about the movie, it would lie in the unperfected CGI effects, but (for me) they were not too distracting. Overall, I fully recommend this film to someone who is either a fan of the original films or anyone who is sick to death of vampires that sparkle and werewolves who take their shirt off every five minutes without actually changing into a wolf.

Here is a collection of comments on the relationship between science, the Bible, creation science and the supernatural.

Below is a list of comments on the relationship on how science relates to the supernatural and the Bible. It includes a reference to creation science and world views.

Being an independent thinker means you will often disagree with others, particularly with those in positions of authority

Thinking for your self dose not mean not believing in God. It can also mean believing in God when others criticize you for doing so.

If you start with the assumption that something does not exist then any theory you produce will support that assumption.

Claiming that because some things once thought to be supernatural are now known to be natural events means that all events have natural explanations is like claiming that all convicts are innocent because some people are falsely convicted of crimes they did not commit.

Science that discounts even the possibility supernatural explanations is no longer a pursuit of the truth but the development of atheistic mythology.

The supernatural is not unscientific it is simply events who’s causes are from outside our universe.

World views are like noses. Everybody has one but not everyone has the same world view.

Creation Science is not anti science but anti atheistic assumptions being imposed on Science.

Any theory that presupposes that the Bible is wrong will inevitably interpret data in a way that disagrees with the Bible.

Knowing something about a topic creates a bias about how you see other information on that topic. So as a result you can only totally objective if you are totally ignorant.

Total objectivity in science is like the speed of light, You can try to reach it all you want but you will never quite reach it.

Its a terrible life with terrible people! We have all been corrupted. Admit it. Lies, anger, envy, lust, greed, arrogance, gluttony and what not! Its like we are slowing but steadily turning into Faust and striking our very own deal with the devil.

We all have our own lives, things to do and stuff to deal with. And, tragic as it may sound but yes, its full of wrong choices, bad luck, frustration, worries etc etc. Well, that’s life! you have to suffer your share of the not-so-good-tings also along with the heart sweeping beautiful moments.
Some days when i lounge around my place when i have the time, *I like to pretend to be a very busy person even when i sit on my ass all day surfing the net or just wasting time*, i think over things and then the tragic reality dawns over me.
Its a terrible life with terrible people! We have all been corrupted. Admit it. Lies, anger, envy, lust, greed, arrogance, gluttony and what not! I am not sure how often we practice the Seven Holy Virtues but sure as hell i know *oh! I know* we commit the Seven Deadly sins along with the numerous little ones, everyday– intentionally, accidentally or maybe habitually *its true my lad, true*

All we ever want these days is Power and money and most of us could do anything to get it.
“I could cheat to get better grades”
“I could cheat my co-worker to outshine him at the presentation and get noticed”

Its like we are slowing but steadily turning into Faust.
Okay first let me tell who who this Faust guy was.

Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend.

Faust was a brilliant scholar but despite his scholarly eminence, Faust is bored and disappointed. He decides to call on the Devil for further knowledge and magic powers with which to indulge all the pleasure and knowledge of the world. In response, the Devil’s representative, Mephistopheles, appears.

He makes a bargain with Faust: Mephistopheles will serve Faust with his magic powers for a term of years, but at the end of the term, the devil will claim Faust’s soul and Faust will be eternally damned. The legend of Faust is often used to describe an arrangement in which an ambitious person surrenders moral integrity in order to achieve power and success. So what this guy basically did was strike a deal with the devil.

You must have heard the song Cross Road Blues by Robert Johnson? This song is frequently linked to stories of the singer himself selling his soul to the devil for the ability to play music.

Well, there is no knowing if there really is a God or Angels or for that matter the Devil or the demons. If the stories of the Crossroad deals have any truth in them or they are mere human imagination.
Its all a matter of choice- To believe or not to believe.

What the point of the matter behind all this thought is how we make the wrong choices everyday and choose the easy and the wrong way out even though we have the brains to figure out the right and the wrong. I mean why do you even think The legend of the Faust was even created? It was a moral story. Something to learn from. To err is human. We all make mistakes, may be everyday and it is all in front of us -transparent and clear. Every sin we commit, every wrong that we do, we know it. Now its your choice weather you face them and be brave enough to accept them and change or just shove it back in the corner and let it gather so much dust that you forget about it and keep committing the same mistake and the same wrong choices over and over again.

Some of you may believe in God and the Devil and that’s how you keep yourself and your deeds in check [If you do then think about this- We might not be literally striking a deal with the devil but doing the wrong things when we know that its not right is kind of the same thing isn't it?]
and some of you may just believe in your own intelligence and let it guide you and show you whats right and whats wrong.

And i lied! Its not a terrible life and people are not terrible. We are all a bit lost and a bit confused. All we need is a reminder once in a while that we can become better people and create a better world for ourselves.
Well, here is the reminder. ^ ___ ^
Now Be Good or else the hell hounds are going to be at your doorstep sooner or later! *I think i have been watching a LOT of supernatural lately. This post proves it! But man! The Winchesters are so bloody awesome and don’t even get me started on that sexy Impala!!!*

I was forced to enter a story contest, despite my better judgement since I SUCK at writing in general. I had a limit, and I have a nasty habit of overexplaining things, therefore this was poorly written.

The sun shone brightly on the side of our large red barn. The beautiful birds whom perched themselves on the tree branches sang a lovely tune. Their voices cried in perfect harmony with the other sounds of nature, the tricking of water, the hum of the breeze. Farm animals of all sorts were outside today, basking in the splendor present. Most importantly, the horses were enjoying this day to their full extent.
My name is Brooke Willow. I live on this wonderful farm with my parents. My father’s name is Marshall; he’s the owner of this lovely farm. My mother’s name is Theresa. When she first met Marshall, I wasn’t sure I liked him. However, when I found out he kept horses, I grew used to him. He’s not a bad fellow once you get to know him.
As I pushed open the wooden door to our house, it creaked loudly. The door needed oiled again. Sitting inside at the table was none other then mother. I could easily recognize her by her shining black hair and the way she looked at me with those friendly blue eyes. She was wearing the purple sun dress I bought her.
I glanced up as father came walking in. He was wearing what he wears most the time, common farmer’s attire. The blue overalls and the straw hat made a welcome appearance. I stepped away from his; he had that ax heaved over his shoulder again.
He forced open the back door and disposed of the ax. When he came back inside he said, “How are you ladies doing today?”
Mother giggled at his comment. Father always was the chivalrous type. “We’re fine.”
Before anyone else could speak, I added a question that was haunting me since I returned home. I was at the market today picking out some odds and ends mother needed. School was out of session for now. “How are the horses doing?” I was always asking how the horses were ever since something tried to attack one of them.
Father’s head lowered before he replied, “Something killed Polo last night.”
“Do you know what killed it?” Mother stole the words right out my mouth. Polo was a sweet black and white horse. He was the youngest horse we had.
Unfortunately, father shook his head quietly. “I don’t know.” He admitted. “I thought it was wolves; those things are always after my livestock. But the damage doesn’t appear to be caused by wolves. The horse’s neck was torn apart. I doubt it’s a wolf, because the other animals all seem unharmed.”
“Then what are we to assume is killing the horses?” mother inquired silently, clearly baffled by this.
Father shrugged, snatching a jar of honey out of the cupboard. “I wish I knew. There’s not really much I can do about it.”
I couldn’t believe my ears! Father was just going to completely ignore the murder of these poor innocent animals. What if whatever that thing is comes back and tries to slaughter another one of those horses. “Father!” I objected. “You have to do something. I love these horses. I come outside and ride them everyday, which I can’t do if they’re all killed.”
Thank goodness father didn’t ignore my protest. “Would it make you feel better if I left Rosco out tonight?”
I nodded eagerly. Rosco was our family dog. The cute little brown, scruffy thing was sitting outside, wagging its tail eagerly. “That would be very helpful, thank you father.”
Both of us were silent for a minute. Out of nowhere, I leaped towards father and wrapped my arms around him. He smiled cheerfully and hugged me back.
After that conversation, I spent the rest of the day playing with the horses. Luckily, father had cleared up Polo’s corpse so I didn’t have to see the suffering that poor horse was put through. Eventually, it was time for me to take the horses back to their pens and go to bed. It took me hours to get to sleep. Not only was I paranoid about more horses dying, but I was also excited to play with them tomorrow. However, I woke up to a terrifying surprise.
I blew past both mother and father. “I’m going to go outside and play with the horses.” As I threw open the front door and ran over to the horse pen, suddenly screaming in terror.
Sitting in front of me was the corpse of another horse. The fur of the tan colored horse was coated in night old blood, mainly around its neck. As horrifying as the sight of my dead horse sitting in front of me was, I was much more concerned with what was laying at the base of the horse’s leg.
Resting on the grass was the body of Rosco. Whatever killed the horse took Rosco down too. I was horrified at the sight of the dog laying there, blood surrounding its now severed head.
All I could do was dash back into the house and scream in terror, “Rosalyn is dead!”
Father glanced up from the breakfast he was preparing. “What? Another horse died? That’s preposterous. Rosco was outside guarding those horses all night.”
Words could not describe what I saw, so I merely took father outside and showed him the beheaded scruffy pup lying by the lifeless horse. Father was speechless too. I knew he loved Rosco just as much as I loved Rosalyn and Polo.
“I’m really sorry.” Father frowned.
“No,” I tried to comfort him by disagreeing. “It’s not your fault that something is massacring the horses.”
Father turned his head away from the sight of the dead animals before continuing. “I really should report this to the authorities though. If this thing can take down my dog too then its bigger then some wolf or even a pack of wolves. I’m almost terrified to think what kind of a monster this thing is.” Father ambled away before I could add any further commentary.
I quietly watched father leave, then gazed out into the field. Most or the horses were hovering in the corner of the pen. The poor things were probably frightened terribly by whatever was attacking their family. I took note of Greyfell being the only horse out in the field now.
As I reached for Greyfell’s head, he gaped up from grazing and peered towards me, his ears pricking curiously. He quietly allowed me to stroke him on the head.
That was the last time that day I spent with the horses. Most of them were too petrified to even come out into the fields and I really didn’t want to make the poor horses suffer more then they already were.
Mother pushed open the door, illuminating the room with her candle light. “How are you doing sweetie?” she asked, carefully sitting on the corner of my bed.
“Still worried about the horses.” I sadly replied.
“I’m worried too. The wildlife around here gets more dangerous every day. I assure you, Marshall reported these attacks to the police and they reassure us that they’re on the case. They’ll let us know if they come up with any details.” It was completely reassuring, but it was good comfort anyways. “Well, have a good night sleep honey.” Mother blew out the candle light she left on the table and wandered out of my room, quietly closing my door.
I waited a few minutes before reaching over and finding a match in my drawer. I struck the match over the matchbox and lit the candle light. Then I leaned on the edge of my bed, trying to adjust to the darkness outside.
I could see one of the horses dashing across the field, fleeing from something.
That was the thing that was killing the horses! Whatever it was supposed to be was out there right now. I quickly leapt out of bed and scrambled down the stairs. I had to get out there and get a clear view of what it was.
The door didn’t squeal this time when I threw it open; father must have oiled it finally. As I made it outside, I ran towards the horse pen, shining the candle light high. As I neared the fence, the candle casted a light on something. Shadows thrown across the dark grass as the light caught their figures.
A person was violently assaulting one of the horses; I quickly recognized the horse as Greyfell. I watched in terror as the person forced the horse into the ground. I couldn’t believe a person had such strength that they could force down a full grown horse; especially one as big and strong as Greyfell.
However, what horrified me that most was what the person did next. I wasn’t sure if my eyes were deceiving me or not, but I could’ve sworn the guy was biting into the horses neck.
I was horrified as I watched this person violently massacre poor Greyfell. As I continued to watch, I confirmed that this guy was indeed biting into the horse’s neck, violently tearing apart its skin.
As the person drew back, he turned towards me, suddenly freezing in spot as my candle light shone on him.
Standing in front of me was a tall man, probably about 25 years of age. The man had deep black spiked hair. He was wearing a black button up shirt and blue jeans. I think his shoes were brown. He also had a tall deep red collar behind his shirt which had a long dark blue cape attached to it. Blood coated his lips from where he bit into Greyfell.
Eventually, I managed to gain the audacity to speak. “Why are you killing my horses? Who are you… no, what are you?”
Shockingly, the man seemed more then happy to answer. As he wiped the blood off his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt and chuckled at me, I could’ve sworn his teeth were fanged. “Greetings human.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked curiously, tilting my head to the side.
“You’re a human aren’t you?” he inquired with a smirk.
I narrowed my gaze at him as I replied, “Yeah, but aren’t you too?”
He shook his head. “I’m not human like you are. I don’t survive like you do. I live off the blood of others.” The odd man leaned on the fence post, continuing his short lecture to me. “Human blood tastes better, but I’m trying not to anger the humans by killing them. So I drink from animals instead.”
I at first made no comment. However, I eventually added, “I don’t follow.”
“My name is Vesper Orfeo and I, my friend, am a Vampire.” So the man’s name was Vesper? I’ve never heard a name like that before. I had heard stories about Vampires, but I never thought they existed.
I threw my hands on the edge of the fence. “I thought Vampires didn’t exist! If you were this obvious about everything don’t you think someone would’ve noticed you by now?”
Vesper smirked. “How do you know you’ve even spotted me?”
I glared at Vesper, my eyes narrowing towards him and question his logic. “I know because you’re standing right here… and I’m talking to you. I’m pretty sure you exist, as creepy as it is.”
“Am I really?” Vesper inquired with a devious grin.
Vesper abruptly vanished before I could say anything else. I didn’t see him run off, he was just gone instantly. Maybe Vesper really didn’t exist. Perhaps I just envisaged Vesper out of thin air. Was I talking to no one? I decided Vesper didn’t really exist and I just imagined the whole thing. Like Vampires actually existed. I turned around, waltzing back in through the front door.
Never did I notice the rustling in the trees. Sitting in the tree’s gazing down on me silently, was Vesper. “They always fall for that one.”
Then, he was gone.

The footage allegedly shot the boy and his mother while driving. Luminous disc shaped object flying in the night sky over Oakland.
Of course, very fast started the rumor that this is alien craft, and this time even the biggest skeptics are speechless.

For now there is no question that this is a manipulated shot, but it is very difficult to prove what kind of object actually that is. Although it looks like a typical ‘flying saucer’, the biggest skeptics are calling for caution as they do not want another ‘greatest proof of the existence of aliens’ to be ridiculed if it turns out that this is actually work of a human spacecraft.

Skeptical or not, you can see recording of these interesting phenomena on the sky here:

This article will describe how fairies are used throughout Medieval literature, specifically "Lanval" and "Morte D'Arthur," as a powerful symbol of the female as the rescuer.

The use of fairies in medieval literature is interesting. In Lanval the fairies come to meet Lanval by land and in the end wind up saving him. In Morte D’Arthur the same aspect of fairies is seen, the fairy as the hero. The fairies meet Arthur by water. Both stories have the fairy come in to save the day. It is very interesting that in a time when women had no power the fairies even existed. It seems that fairies, though women-like in appearance, still had a great power over man.

In Lanval the fairies come to court to testify for Lanval’s innocence (lines 619-628). The fairy rides off with Lanval behind her, which shows that as a fairy woman she has more power than him. She is in charge and has the power in the situation. In Morte D’Arthur King Arthur was mortally wounded and the fairies met him in a boat and they traveled by water. The fairies were in control of the boat in this story and were therefore symbolically and literally controlling the situation. The fairies took Arthur into the vale of Avilion to try to heal his wounds. Though they seem to have failed according to the end of the story it’s still seen as Arthur depending on women, though in fairy form, and shows the fairy as the rescuer.

Both Lanval and Morte D’Arthur show these instances of women in control of situations and as having the power to save the men. These are not lowly men either. Lanval was a knight and Arthur was a king. By men of this prestigious power and rank needing women it shows that even during medieval times women do indeed have some great powers within their sex.

Was the power of the fairy effective as a power of symbolizing women more effective because they had magic to protect them? Would you fear a fairy? If fairies were highly respected and feared in medieval times, how did it become such a diminutive term of today? It’s interesting that though these are both works are written by male authors that they would chose to show that a man, even if he has such a high rank, still needs a woman to save him or to be with him during his times of greatest weakness. It shows that the authors and people at the time believed that women had a great power. They disguised this power by making some of the women in their story be fairies. By making them into fairies and having actual “magic” that was the only way the male audience would like the stories. Men at the time did not want to acknowledge the fact that women were stronger than them and that they actually depended on women. This admission of weakness would give women power and they couldn’t allow their women to have that control, that power, over them.
