Jack the Ripper was the name associated with one of London’s longest unsolved multiple murderers. The murders all occurred in the Whitechapel area of east London, with the first one being reported in March 1888. A letter was delivered claiming the famous name which later proved to be a hoax but the name stuck, although he was also known as the Whitechapel Murderer.
