It is a New Year, a time of new beginning, letting things go; but in this case it was surely an eye opener.

Happy New Year

To all my Triond friends, I want to wish everyone all the best, New Year: new beginnings.

Recently after a somewhat major accident, where my van was totally messed up, but I was alright, I realized just how lucky I was; I could have been dead. I don’t see this as a bad thing, for it has brought light and regard for my future, my life.

God, Energy, and my dad played a very important part in my survival of this accident, God created me, he does not want me to leave this earth until I am finished or have accomplished my “mission”.

Energy, it surrounds us all, and I am full of it. There is so much to see and do, I am just not finished. I joke with my friends that when the time comes and my death is near I will be begging God, to wait! I still have a few more things to do. I will be telling him, look my neighbor needs me, or my daughter and my son need me. Realization as it may be, they will all continue, they appreciate my help but they don’t need me.

Then there is my Dad, who I love and more each day; I never thought I could miss a person so much but I do. I believe my dad was beside me during this very intense time on that day, as I was lucky that after hitting the rail on the highway and being thrown across all three lanes, I did not injure myself and more importantly I did not hurt or ruin anyone’s life that day.

Dad called me fish-fry, and he called my daughter chicken fry; with the type of auto insurance I am able to rent a vehicle until my van is repair. At first I did not realize it, but I always try to remember some part of my own or someone else plate, making it easier for me to find later. I don’t know what the numbers are on my out of state plate, but the first three letters are F-R-Y. It was then that I realized my dad even though he has moved on; he still is a very important part of my life.

Movie Review for Underworld Awakening (2012)

As a fan of the Underworld films, I was not in the least bit disappointed by the latest output of the franchise, Underworld Awakening. Not only is the film loyal to the characters and plot of the first two films, expanding upon the growing mythology and storyline, but it is also an added perk to see real vampires and werewolves ripping each other apart in movies again.

What began in the first film as a battle solely between Vampires and Lycan has now evolved into a fight for both species’ survival when humans discover their existence and decide (very un-True Blood like) that eradication is the only solution. Kate Beckinsale returns once again as Selene, our heroin from the first two films. She begins the movie with an onslaught of unique battle scenes, fleeing from the human aggressors, and clever camera angles that are nicely complimented by the 3D experience. After a brief memory blurb, explaining the details of the new state of mortal paranoia, she is caught by the pesky humans and finds herself twelve years later in a research facility being subjected to experimentation.

Of course, with unknown help, Selene quickly escapes and proceeds into an unfamiliar world that she must adapt in, where her species no longer lives in luxury and safety. Equipped with the added strength she had gained in Evolution, from Alexander Corvinus, she quickly shows that she has grown from the naïve Death Dealer from the first film into a strong not easily eclipsed character. (Eat your heart out Bella Swan… even when you do become a vampire).

Selene must attempt to discover what has happened to Michael in the time she has laid dormant and she finds that she is not the only thing experimented on within the facility she broke free from. With most of the characters from the original films long since fully deceased, a new set of allies and enemies are presented to fill their shoes.

If I had a complaint about the movie, it would lie in the unperfected CGI effects, but (for me) they were not too distracting. Overall, I fully recommend this film to someone who is either a fan of the original films or anyone who is sick to death of vampires that sparkle and werewolves who take their shirt off every five minutes without actually changing into a wolf.

We all hear stories about superheroes and great adventurers', but what is the real story or survival and how do we play our part?

When someone thinks of survival and endurance the chances are they’ll think of it in a physical sense, but in society today the concept of survival is a much broader topic. Many people will grow up hearing stories about brave adventurers who endured the harsh desert for 60 days or perhaps a teary love story about a sinking ship. However in reality, the real achievement is making it through the challenges of our everyday lives and living in hope that the future will bring a happier more peaceful world. Conformity is one of the key themes to modern day survival and plays a major part in how the youth of today endure society’s views and expectations to be what the past generations have once been.

As children, people are crowded with ideas and concepts of what survival is really about and many characteristics’ are based around bravery, strength and the term ‘trust no one’. People learn to focus on these particular strengths and in turn allow them to play a major role in the development of their character. It teaches people that as soon as their own lives become something of a challenge to act out in ways that may only really work in the brutality of our childhood stories. When in reality, people need to stop rushing around their busy lives and learn to face life with a new found hope for the future, and only then will people learn that enduring today’s modern society really is the most admirable feat mankind has ever faced.

Another common, mislead conception is that the concept of conformity plays no role in today’s world when really it could be seen as the one word definition for the modern day society. These days life is all about having enough money to fit in, or finally getting that dream job, perhaps its partying every weekend or going on a massive shopping spree, whichever it is, it all stems from mankind’s desperate need to fit in. Consequently the majority of people fall victim to the world’s materialism, rather than enduring the conflict accompanied with going against the crowd and simple living just to live. There should be no need for the fastest car or the best clothes, life should just be about the most important things such as passion. People need to learn how to survive the pressure of conformity and how to endure the world’s harsh views, because at the end of somebody’s life, it is not the material achievements that they are worried about but rather the relationships with the people they love and support. A different kind of endurance is necessary to overcome this pressure of conformity resulting in a true tale of survival.

It may come as no surprise that many of today’s youth are pressured into things they would not otherwise do, however some of this ‘peer pressure’ originates from the older and supposedly ‘wiser’ generations. All of a sudden expectations are placed upon somebody, they are told who they should become and how they should act. What happens if the person giving instruction does not know the harsh realities they will face in life? Do the youth then proceed to face life’s challenges, ill-equipped with the necessary characteristics and tools to survive? Life isn’t a fairytale and if all somebody ever knew of the world was pretty pictures and happy little melodies then what do theytruly living what must be seen as a remarkable turn to when reality hits? People are naturally drawn to the quest for survival. Such stories make one feel hopeful and amazed that someone has achieved such a broken adventure, to see them return stronger gives somebody courage in their selves, a hope that maybe if the need called, they too could survive such a thing. So why can’t the older generations be a better example, perhaps sometimes the sheer brutality of reality needs to be told to the youth so they can be prepared for what is to come.

Perhaps it is fear that drives people to live such lives, simply the thought of not being part of the crowd somehow forces them to live in conformity. However there are some that choose to endure life as it comes more so than others. Most people survive reality and its hurdles simply by falling into a sort of invisible-ness but some choose to boldly stand out despite the obvious pressure. This really is a true tale of survival, not some childish adventure but the story of how people overcome the fear of conformity and live in such a way that endures the cruel words of society. They have to live with harsh remarks and overlying pressures, but somehow they manage to inspire the lives of many and truly live what must be a remarkable story of survival.

A brief foray into the concept of learning, or as I prefer to say, conditioning. Viva Pavlov!

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }

Generally speaking, learning is producing an enduring change in individual behavior based off of the individual’s experience. A stimulus, either negative or positive occurs following the individual’s action. The individual will approach similar situations in the future in certain ways based off of the stimulus and the perceived “reward” or “cost” of making the action. For example, when one touches a hot stove range they are burned. Their body registers that what has happened causes pain, the person is now in pain as a result of touching the stove. In the future they will avoid touching the stove because they know that touching the stove produces a negative pain response. Past experience tells them that it hurts; therefore, they won’t do it. It’s quite a simple concept.

The same concept can be applied to a more complex and formal concept of learning, the “book learning” that we usually associate with the term learning. We learn how to read or how to understand math concepts because of the result we expect to come from it. We get an “A” on our test, our teacher rewards us with a gold star, we are proud of ourselves, our parents are proud of us, we know we need to do it to prepare for the future, etc. If we never received any sort of “reward” or result from anything we did, we would never learn. We learn to seek the good and avoid the bad. If a poisonous spider wasn’t something that could potentially harm us, we would have no reason to learn to avoid it at all costs. We learn however, that the Black Widow is in fact deadly, and as soon as we know we have something to lose by associating with the Black Widow, we no longer want to have anything to do with it.

In the same vein, we might learn that the Black Widow is deadly and then associate all moderate-sized black spiders with death or injury. However this would be more of an assumption or a conditioned response until we were given proof in another case that a moderate black spider of a species other than the Black Widow was in fact, deadly. Once we know that both the Black Widow and Moderate Sized Black Spider #2 are deadly, we can say that we have “learned” that moderate-sized black spiders are dangerous creatures and should be avoided.

A concept related to learning, but not identical to it, is Classical Conditioning. Classical Conditioning, as a concept, has affected our lives and the lives of nearly every animal on the planet for as long as we have existed; however, it was not until the early 1900’s that Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov made sense of the concept. It could be considered an “aha!” or “eureka!” moment in the field of psychology, because thanks to Pavlov (who had originally never intended to reach any psychological discovery, he was actually a physiologist) a major piece of the psychology puzzle had been filled in. We now understood how what we sometimes define incorrectly as “learning”, is a reactionary response to a stimuli in a manner that is often not conscious in nature. Thanks to Pavlov, it can be argued that all humans do is reacting. When we learn, we do it to avoid the pain of failure and to enjoy the pleasure of “success.” We learn to better our quality of life to match or exceed that of those around us. It can be argued that every single journey by man is a quest to minimalize discomfort. It can even be argued that the Samurai of Feudal Japan who would take their own lives rather than live with personal shame, were only killing themselves to avoid being in pain. We can associate whatever meaning we want to different things, but it all relates to what we deem to be comfortable or uncomfortable.

Pavlov’s experiment in of itself was not nearly so complex a matter. He tested it on the starving stray dogs of Moscow who became his experiments. Pavlov noticed one day that the dogs would salivate when they saw food. Pavlov wondered if he could condition the dogs to salivate by associating the ring of a bell with food. He would ring the bell, and bring them food. Ring the bell, and bring them food. Each time at the sight of food they would salivate, like any dog would, but unconsciously they began to associate the ringing of the bell with food. Soon, Pavlov would ring the bell without food being present, and the dogs would salivate. They had come to associate the presence of a bell with the presence of food, their bodies salivated because they were only reacting to what had been reinforced in them over a period of weeks. They had been conditioned that way without knowing it.

That being said, of course they didn’t know it. They couldn’t have known what was happening, they were dogs after all, but that doesn’t necessarily rule the findings as inaccurate. Similar studies have been performed on human subjects with similar results. If you associate the sound of a loud car horn with an auto accident that nearly ended your life, odds are you will be tense around the sound of nearby car horns despite the fact that the car horn noise itself had absolutely nothing to do with you getting injured and was a situational stimulus. It just so happened that you heard the horn as you were injured, which leads to associate hearing the horn with grievous pain and anxiety. A conditioned response, just like the salivation of one of Pavlov’s strays.

Eventually in time, a conditioned response can go extinct. This happens when it becomes clear to the subject that the associate is no longer relevant, or once a long span of time passes between experiences of the conditioned response. If you spend three years away from the honking of horns, there is a chance that upon your return to them, you will not be as dramatically affected by their stimulus.

The whole point behind these responses is survival. In nature animals have to learn very quickly what works and what doesn’t if they hope to survive long enough to reproduce. This requires dramatic and sometimes disproportionate responses to stimuli that can be considered dangerous, which is why you might have a panic attack at the sound of a car horn. Your body is telling you that your survival is at risk, and that you must avoid the stimulus.

But perhaps one day you are near a car horn, and instead of something bad happening, something good happens. You meet a lovely woman (the context is dubious, but bear with me) and the two of you immediately hit it off and have a great time. That might neutralized your conditioned response towards car horns, or even reverse it altogether, causing you to associate car horns with positive experiences. This would create a primary reinforcement, which in the terms of conditioning, is what you either want to avoid or seek. If it is pleasurable you seek it, painful you avoid it. A secondary reinforcement is not necessarily as tangible, and can be much more subtle. For example, money has no worth in of itself, it’s just a small piece of paper, but our experiences with money dictate that it is in fact worth something to us. Money becomes a secondary reinforcement, something that doesn’t necessarily have value in of itself, but we associate it with the primary reinforcement (money might buy you that trip to Belize you’ve been wanting to take, something that arguably has more tangible worth.).

The same concepts apply to negative reinforcement, but negative reinforcement works exactly as the name implies. It tends to be a less effective way of discouraging or encouraging a behavior, as it motivates by discomfort rather than reward. Reward tends to be more motivating to an individual than the idea of having something be taken away, whether it be respect, time, money, or confidence in one’s self. All of those things are taken in one way or another through various means of negative reinforcement, such as speeding tickets, jail time, reprimands, fees, and demeaning commentary. While these things might prevent a behavior, they are less effective and less healthy for the parties involved.

In order to make a behavior become deeply engraved into a person’s general behavior, the best way to do it is with repeated positive stimulus or “reward” over irregular intervals of time. This makes sure that the behavior is not practiced because of the expectation of a consistent reward, but instead the exciting possibility of one. By practicing football every day, you might not necessarily cause your team to reach states, but there’s definitely an increase in possibility that it will.

When it is reinforced inside of a person that their efforts will not produce success under any circumstances, what occurs is known as “learned helplessness.” When it is reinforced that their effort is irrelevant, they stop putting forth their effort. They begin to believe that their effort is completely pointless, because that is what they have been taught. Their consciousness tells them that they have always failed and that they will continue to do so, no matter if this is true or not. The person no longer perceives a chance of success, and will no longer work towards whatever it is that they have been shied away from. Even though they are completely capable, they will act as if they are helpless, hence the name: “learned helplessness.”

This descriptive guide will help you with Survival mode on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3! VERY USEFUL TIPS!

Survival mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a upgrade from the previous game of black ops zombies. You must survive a endless wave of enemies ranging anywhere from easy to insane. You must fight against regular infantry, attack dogs, helicopters, Juggernauts, and suicide bombers! These armed forces will often cluster into groups and attacking you they will also execute flanking maneuvers from multiple directions. This provides excellent training for on-line play although the enemies are easier then the average human player the game regains these grounds with the tactics and the aim style of this mode balance it out par to on-line play.

The Weapons Armory will unlock at the end of Wave 1, the Equipment Armory will unlock at the end of Wave 2, and the Air Support Armory will unlock at the end of Wave 3. Use the money you earn from killing to buy more items to keep you alive you have 30 seconds after each round to pickup enemies guns to save on money.

The XP you earn is equivalent to the money you earn.
Early Infantry (100)
Sub Machine Gunner Infantry (125)
Assault Rifle Infantry (150)
Heavily Armored Infantry (200)
Suicide Bombers (275)
Suicide Bombers Injured / Self-Destruct (150)
Chemical Infantry (150)
Attack Dogs (100)
Suicide Bomb Attack Dogs (150)
Juggernaut (500)
Riot Shield Juggernauts (750)
Helicopters (600)

With the missions the farther down you go or the higher the tier the harder it gets.. you can even try the insane mode which is very difficult but you should be able to make it to round 15 on every map with some training and trial and error of tactics with friends on-line. for more information on each mission take a look at the guides below of each map.

Tier 1 Ops
Resistance
Village
Interchange
Underground

Tier 2 Ops
Dome
Mission
Seatown
Carbon

Blog about a day in the snow, and a fire...

Survival of the human race.

I had a discussion with a friend on twitter last night about how many people might survive should the economy/world structure as we know it end. I had a much grimmer outlook and thought maybe 2% of the world would be able to make it more than a couple days without their coffees or shopping malls. @LianaBrooks on the other hand figured that number might be a touch higher. Turns out she lives in Gator/Snake land and they are both good eating with the right recipes. (Yes she has those too)
My wife and I might not be what you would call survivalists, but we are in touch with what would be necessary to survive in the wild for an indefinite time. I have my own small solar system for back up power, I can build a generator station from a creek or river and could build a home in the woods given some basic tools.
This summer past, my wife and I decided to try and light a fire in the back yard without anything other than a few sticks. It did take quite some time, but in the end we had a small flame going on.

We live up here in the frozen north, aka : Canada, and it does get mighty cold up here. Today we were out on a walk through the snow with kids in tow, and I asked my wife if she brought her flint. (Yes, she has a flint striker, was a Christmas present from last year.) She answered in the positive. (of course)
With a little scavenging around for grasses, and something to use as a decent tinder, (harder to find than you might think sometimes) we had a small blaze going in about 15 minutes. It wasn’t much and it did take a little time to find the right material to get the fire going. In the end however we had a small blaze capable of being more. We didn’t need the fire for any reason other than the practice so with a few kicks of snow it was all but out.
It was a nice little feeling to know that should the need be there, and the easier methods of making fire be unavailable for any reason, we could have a fire for the night, cooking, safety or whatever else we might want it for.

I do know this, should everything in society go in the dumps, my family will at least have a fighting chance of survival.
So what do you think your chances would be to survive if you were given only the barest of essentials?
The clothes you could carry, a basic knife and whatever you could drum up from around you…

Oddly enough it is this same thought that often starts the stories in my head, and on that note…back to my writing!

Oh, in case you didn’t notice dear readers. If you look up on the left and right of this window, you will see a new link for my latest short story as well as a new progress bar for the next one. It is already going way faster than the last! Bad guys (and girls) can be very fun to write.

Merry Christmas all and see you after the holiday!

The sociologist in me always asks those burning questions about why people do what they do. Is it chance or all part of a Greater Plan to continuously connect us?

At our last monthly meeting, it seems that the focus will be more on assisting than holding classes. And that makes sense considering that Members are available for scheduled classes prepared to teach and it is becoming a rare occurrence that a patron will sign up for the class or that a patron will walk in with a genuine thirst for knowledge. (Please don’t coin me jaded. I am not. I am just reflecting, ergo the reflection log.)
Although this seems to make sense to go in the direction of assisting, I am curious to know if this is an economic decision (not in money economics but as in the premise of supply and demand) or is this decision an “easy way out” for the patrons. By not holding classes, the interpretation of our position can result in one of not actually challenging our community to meet the demands of an ever evolving society, a high tech society.
When I assist, I sometimes find myself solving problems for patrons that they could solve themselves if they just attend the classes and obtain the skills. I am patient and I am kind, but always in the back of my mind, I am fitting the pieces to the puzzles mentally. I always make the correlation between the issue the patron has and the class that could educate the person experiencing the issue.
I know more than most how effective a tactile education can be: when you learn something new as a result of watching and then doing, especially when the current situation depends on the solution. However, whatever happened to success? Success is being prepared for your opportunities when the door opens. Survival is learning as you go along, learning as a necessity. Is this the concept we want to pass on to the lagging members of our community? To simple continue to survive?
It is disturbing to me as a citizen, although this present environmental temperature almost ensures that I will consistently have a service to perform. I just know how difficult it is to secure a decent living wage with a college education and intermediate computer skills. How can any of our patrons do so without them?

The Next Day:

I really thought about this all night. My compassion for creating an even playing field for all people has definitely seasoned this reflection. I am so glad that the reflection is mine and no one else’s so that I can flavor it however I want to.
People make choices and it is their choices that determine their path. A person has to choose success and a person has to choose survival. Success almost always ensures survival, but survival very rarely ensures success. It is all about choices.
In our society, we all hope that those persons to the left of us and to the right of us will choose what we also choose for ourselves. It makes us as individuals more comfortable to walk together than to experience a separation. We don’t want to think that our brother and our sister would ever choose to walk differently from us and deviate from what we have found to be a formula for success.
The solace I find is that I have in no means “have arrived”, so in my weaknesses there will continue to be opportunity for me to reach out my hand to someone who is more successful than I for their assistance and guidance. In turn, in my strengths, I will look for that hand reaching for me and provide assistance and guidance to my brother.

This is a short blog about how it is messed up that the people who need help are being turned down by our very government!

You ever notice how society’s financial help department’s say they are there to help you, but when you actually go there and fill out the big paper packet and wait in the long line only to then wait to be called in to be spoken to by a person for longer, how odds are they say they cannot help you?

I have lived my life being poor and I know in now days society, a lot of us are struggling paycheck to paycheck. The messed up thing is we technically make too much? How the heck is it that you make too much when you have to take pay day loans, title loans, sell what little valuables you own, walk to work because you don’t have a vehicle, or if not walk you are taking some sort of public transportation because you either don’t have a vehicle or you can’t afford to get to work (if you even are employed). Those who aren’t employed can’t even afford to go to find a job either.

Today’s society has showed and increase in our amount of our society who are homeless! Does this not mean anything to our politicians?! A rise of unemployment and homelessness. They say they are doing everything they can to help us…but are they really? They have time to make up stupid laws over what a cigarrette can be called, but they cannot make time to actually bring employment to the people who are out of work?

I remember getting denied to have my light bill covered, I was only asking for half of it! I was told that I made too much. I looked in shock. How can I be making too much. The guy said that accoridng to my “gross” pay I made too much. I looked at him on verge of tears and I said, yes I see what my gross pay is but that is not what I bring home.

I am not the only one declined for this same reason. In my honest opinion, they should not be going by what our gross pay is, but our net pay…the money we brign home to feed our little ones. The future generation of America is starving and the politicians say there is not a problem. How can they be so blind to the problem? Our nations is turning to chaos! People are stealing, robbing, or doing illegal things such as drug dealing to feed their families…but there is no problem?

I read in the paper one day of a guy’s attempt to use fireworks in his car to blow up an ATM at a PNC bank branch. Now I know your first reactions were one of many. Some sway towards the immediate criminal label, but the guy had an absolute clean record. He had never done anything to get a criminal record before. Hten there are those who would say, omg what an idiot. Ok, this may not have been very smart to try for one nor leave his vehicle as evidence for him to be tracked…but he is not a criminal master mind he was a hard working American man! Then there are those who react with sympathy and wonder what drove him to these actions. This is how I felt honestly as I heard his story. He was a local man who was facing repossession and foreclosure. See the site address for the story.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/19/man-tries-to-blow-up-bank_n_651728.html

This is shocking and the politicians still ahve their public aid offices running the same. People are exhausting their options to feed their families and to survive. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class struggles to make it. I remember my parents saying this all my life when things got tough.

I know for a fact that plenty of society out there has honestly been on the decline. I recall walking out that office to see a guy put a link card in his wallet and walk to a 2010 Cadillac with chrome rims that was lifted slightly and put on about 22-24inch rims! I’m looking in shock at this guy as he gets in the vehicle. I am sitting here driving a 94 Ford Thunderbird with a crap load of problems and still am people who have been rewarded link because they claimed simply…I’m homeless and unemployed. These individuals have nothign wrong with them and can work, have a working vehicle but are too lazy to even try looking for work! How do I know their story because I knew them. I don’t speak with them anymore, but I knew them and I seen the proof of their lies. They had a home to live under even though it was their parents’ roof and chose not to work because they didn’t want to and figured the state could support them. I have been told by reliable sources that their drug dealers were getting food stamps somehow! What the hell is wrong with our system?! I feel more information is needed before someone could get state aid. I also feel that it should go by net income not gross because gross doesn’t all come hoem to pay bills but the net income does. Some of us are paying arm and a leg for taxes, benefits, or child support. Now, I understand this stuff is mandatory for the most part, but seriously how come is this not considered when you look in our faces and tell us we are on our own and the state will not help us. The sate’s favorite word to those of us who actually need it is DENIED!

Come on America, a petition is our right to our government. Petition our right to have the system change their ways and figure out if we need help by our net income!

I know the rich sit in their mansions saying things like well why should we help those who won’t help themselves. Problem is, many of us a trying drastically to help ourselves and when we need help, a blind eye is turned. People are spending their hard earned cash on lottery in hopes to win big to get out of their hell! The rich have also gone to the extent of saying we earned this, well yes you have, but is it too hard to ask compassion of you to help those who need it. If you suddenly went broke would you not want help?! I am not talking about help the drugees, the drug dealers, or the maniacs. I am talking about helping those who honestly are trying to help themselves!

There has been many beliefs that zombies may one day become a reality. Instead of waiting until its too late, read this guide to give you a head start on survival.

As we all know there has been many people that believing that the zombie apocalypse may come one day. Many of us wonder, what will i do in a situation like that? That is why I’m here to describe a well thought guide to prepare, defend, and survive this disaster.

     Before the apocalypse

     1. Preparing supplies

First things first, we need to gather supplies before the apocalypse even happens. The first thing we need is a weapon. Stock up on guns, swords, bats, etc. MAKE SURE you at least have a decent melee weapon for close combat. A pistol won’t stop a zombie in time that is an inch from your face and ready to bite.

The next most important thing to a weapon is food and clean water (or some other drink). Without any of those you will eventually lose strength and die. A weapon can help you survive until you get food or fluids, but if you cannot procure some in time, then it is game over.

Another good thing to have is tools for building barricades, accessing buildings, etc. A crowbar is good for doors and to access sewers for hiding out. Other tools, like hammers and nails can be used to build the barricades. Screwdrivers also help to dismantle items in order to gain access to locked cupboards and containers in order to check for supplies.

    Step 2: Barricading or traveling

In order to survive you need to set up a base or travel to a safe haven of some sorts. First things first if you barricade yourself, make sure you have a way to go and get supplies discreetly and make sure you have plenty of supplies(ex: food, clean water, weapons, tools, etc.) in order to survive for awhile

Barricading

First start with the windows and dorrs. Do your best to make sure your foretress is impenetrable or at least able to withstand damage. The sturdier the barricade the better. Note, if zombies do not see you or hear you, they most likely wont try and come to your barricaded house.

(more on next version)

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/slideshow/photos-xray-oddities-medical-scans-2033647

Images of sharp objects that have been forced into somebody’s head always get people wincing sympathetically, certain that the person involved must be dead, because brain injuries are almost always fatal. The operative word here is almost, and what follows are incredible examples of people should, indeed, should be dead, but lived through their ordeals, somehow surviving, against all the odds, and making full recoveries.

Especially distressing when the victim is child, as young as 17 month-old Jessiah Jackson, some head injuries seem truly horrendous. Jessiah fell into a pressure washer, when his chair tipped over, a large metal hook within the machine penetrating the skull, and lodged some way into the brain, close to a large blood vessel. Despite the inherent danger of the surgical procedure needing to be performed, North Carolina Children’s Hospital surgeons removed the hook safely, and Jessiah is now fully recovered, a happy and healthy child.

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/slideshow/photos-xray-oddities-medical-scans-2033647

Another 17-month-old toddler staged a miraculous recovery after falling face first into car keys, one piercing his eyelid and penetrating his brain. Nicholas Holderman, of Kentucky, USA, appeared to have had his eye had ruptured, at first, but later checks revealed noeye damage at all, and the resilience healthy child had, in just over two months, made a complete recovery, showing no visible signs of having been so horrifically injured.

The young Emerson de Oliveira Abreu was out fishing in Rio de Janiero, using a compressed air powered fishing spear, he aimed at a target fish, but his bad luck saw the spear ricocheted back from a boulder and spear him through head and brain, all 6in going into his skull, which required needed five hours of very high-risk surgery to remove successfully, Emerson amazingly recovering completely and going back to his fishing as if nothing had happened.

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/slideshow/photos-xray-oddities-medical-scans-2033647

One of the luckiest boys alive today, Liu Cheong came very close to death when shot by a school friend whilst the pair were fooling about with bows and arrows, in Changchun, eastern China and 11-year-old Liu was horrified to feel an arrow pierce his eye socket, and travelling through his head, only stopped by the bony back of his skull, Liu only surviving because, by some miraculous freak of chance the arrow missed his brain completely, and he recovered completely.

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/slideshow/photos-xray-oddities-medical-scans-2033647

The image above, as shocking as it is, shows a 15-year-old boy’s skull, shortly after a five inch knife stabbed him, as with two friends attempting to stop a mugging, he was set upon, the knife stabbing one boy in the forehead, another boy in the back and yet another in the shoulder. The boy above only survived because the knife was left sticking from his head, allowing doctors to operate in time. Had anyone tried to remove it before that, he would have died, yet ten months later he enrolled in college.

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/slideshow/photos-xray-oddities-medical-scans-2033647

As awful as these images would suggest the injuries might have been, the fact that these people recovered just goes to show how incerdibly resilient the human body can be in matters of survival. There is bo doubt whatever that every one of these victimes turned out to be incredibly lucky in avoiding life threatening damage, but nature proves, through these amazing stories of survival, that she will always find a way to maintain life.
