9/11. Were you there? Did you see it? How was it?

Picturing the events that occured that faithful day ten years ago, one may feel so terrified. Were you at the scene of any of the bombings? Just try to close your eyes and picture the Sept. 11 series attacks. Memories may seem perpetual and unforgettable to many. It has gone down into the books of American history. The few survivors of the attacks are traumatized and still are. The popular World Trade Centre totally destroyed and fell flat within two hours.

Pictures from the scene of the incidence showed total chaos. Different survivors of the attacks have told their bits of the story and sampling all of them, one would with no doubt know it wasn’t a joke or a framed story. Comparing their stories and the videos available.

Guess America had paid the al-qaida back in similar coins by killing mainly Osama Bin Laden and two other dangerous al-qaida operatives in various attacks.

Countering terrorism, what is the risk to bear?

9/11 Not again!

If you have a survivor in the family looking for to the end of the world, give them a gift they will truely love and use.

If you are looking for gifts for your special person that loves to think of the end of the world, following are a few suggestions to help them enjoy it all. They love to think about how to survive in any kind of disaster or through any kind of trial. So check out the great choices they will be sure to open on the holidays as they look forward to the final big boom.

1. A book on 2012 predictions will provide hours of fun reading about how the world could end on 12/21/12. They can learn about every thing from earthquakes to asteroids, from zombies to aliens. It will fill their fantasy and give them a chance to prepare for each and everyone of them.

2. Check with your local military surplus stores for a load of gift ideas. A gas mask with filters will delight them for the great world war, or select a few great meals that will last a life time if they are not used right away. An army survival guide has all the suggestions needed for hard survival or outback survival.

3. A small water purification system is always a welcome addition to gear. As long as they can find water and make sure it is drinkable, they will be happy with their own little secret.

4. Look into a low investment, hand crank radio and flashlight at one end for emergency information. With just a few cranks of the handle they can be in touch with information from what is left of the outside world.

5. Add to the book collection with a few books on how to fight off zombies and vampires in the coming world of tomorrow. There are several on the market that provide this unusual information for those who fear they might be a problem at the end of our time.

6. Make sure your little one have an emergency survival medical kits for injuries or in case of a bite from a vampire. It helps to have the information and medicines you need when there are no more hospitals.

7. If your survivor is an adult, they would love a good survival knife. The handle comes open and provide a small compass, small tools for survival, water proof matches and a few other interesting items.

8. Really surprise your survivor with a certificate to a three day survivor training course. They hit the dirt running and learn skills need to hunt for food, avoid attack, protect themselves and others, how to make a small cook fire and how to fish without a pole. They will be tired and hungry at the end of three days, but they will be happy with all the new information they have learned and the confidence they have gained.

9. Anything that will fit in a back pack and is small and useful will work as a great gift. You can purchase small things like reflector blankets, plastic ponchos, small flashlights, camp cook gear, small back packing stoves, hats and other items at your local department store in the sporting goods department.

10. Last give them a water proof package of family pictures to carry along. They will remember their own history and provide them a rescue goal in case the worst ever does happen.

“ “Boston” Rob Mariano has finally won the reality show in his fourth attempt. The 22nd season of Survivor also has a million dollar cash prize for the winner, now going to Bob Mariano who said he earned eight votes from the nine-person jury of dismissed contestants.

Mariano joined the 39-day survival contest with Hantz, his 36-year-old “Heroes vs. Villains” adversary. The pair were sent to opposing tribes of new contestants, but Hantz was swiftly dispatched by his Zapatera tribemates, while Mariano became the undisputed leader of his Ometepe tribe, forming an impenetrable six-person alliance that never wavered.

Jeff Probst, the show’s host, said it was as “close to a perfect game as anybody’s played.” At the end of the finale, Probst revealed that the 23rd season would be strikingly similar to the 22nd edition: “Survivor: South Pacific” will feature 16 new castaways and two veteran players, and the return of Redemption Island. It premieres this fall.

Claude Stanley Choules was until his death, the only known surviving veteran out of the 70 million fighters who took part in the First World War 1914-1918. He died at a nursing home in Perth, Western Australia today Thursday 5th May 2011 according to family sources.

British born Claude Stanley Choules gave 40 years of distinguished service to the Royal Navy both in England and Australia. The 110 year old Veteran had three children, 13 grand children and 26 Great grand children. His oldest daughter Daphne Edinger is 84 years old. He was also the oldest Australian at the time of his death and entered in the books of Guinness as the last surviving Combat Veteran of WWI after American Frank Buckles, who also lived to be 110 and died in March this year.

He joined the Navy in 1915 at the age of 14, although he actually lied about his age claiming he was older than that. It appears he wanted so badly to be in the Navy because his two older brothers were already there and at that time, there was something macho about being in the forces.

He served in World War I as a teen aboard the battleship HMS Revenge from which he watched the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet and the destruction of its ships at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys. For the greater part of his WWI involvement, Claude was active mostly in the trenches of Northern France and Belgium where millions were killed in war that was believed would end all wars.

In 1926, he move to Australia where he was seconded to the Royal Australian Navy, a move that saw him serve aboard HMAS Canberra until 1931 and the following year he got a new assignment as The Acting Torpedo and Anti Submarine Instructor.

Claude’s distinguished service did not just end with the First World War-he was very much part and parcel of the Second World War operations as well. As the acting torpedo officer at Fremantle in World War Two, Mr. Choules disposed of the first German mine to wash up on Australian soil. He also took part in the destruction of the Harbor and Oil storage tanks at the Fremantle Port, a move that was intended to secure the place in case of a Japanese invasion.

He did not glorify war-in fact, he always believed there was no glory in it from his point of view because he saw war as a pure waste of time, resources and human life. Claude therefore, never discussed the grim side of his war experience to anyone.

Have you ever taken things for granted when you know that you should not have? Recently, there was a gentleman that was in a crash at the age of 26. He was a military man, survivor of Iraq and had a young family, that loved him so much.
Unfortunately he did not survive the crash . But the lesson that many need to learn from this sad tragedy is “Never take things for granted , because you are not promised today” So if you have something to so to someone or want to do something with that person “Do it” Because how knows today may be their last day here on this earth .

In Loving Memory
“You will be missed my friend, you always knew how to make people laugh and smile”

When Disaster Decides To Spare Your Life, leaving you homeless and family-less, can you call yourself lucky? The Hurricane Katrina...

About Hurricane Katrina:

Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States.[2] Among recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall. At least 1,836 people lost their lives in the actual hurricane and in the subsequent floods, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane; total property damage was estimated at $81 billion (2005 USD),[2] nearly triple the damage wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Source:Wikipedia

The following is purely a work of fiction; Any resemblance with any real persons living or dead is purely coincidental.

It was a windy night but having lived in New Orleans for my entire life, I didn’t find it unusual. We had our regular family dinner on the table. My mom, dad and sister, all had a lovely day and some fascinating experiences. I, on the other hand, had a rotten day; being ragged and beaten up by some bullies. No way, I could tell my family about them; If I did, the bullies would be back to eat my head. We dispersed to our own rooms. I and my elder sister were teenagers and not the bestest of friends but I had to spend a night in her room. My room, upstairs was being renovated. After a small fight with my sister about her room being all pinkish (and teddy-bearish) and a goodnight kiss from mom, I slept, only to wake up after an hour.

The night was certainly not calm. The bellowing wind was smashing on our windows which reminded me of the hurricane warning from the government. We were pretty much used to floods and most of us flagrantly ignored the warning. The biggest mistake of our lives and for some of us, the last mistake. I went to shut the window properly. That’s when I saw the trees outside our home shaking violently and on the brink of being uprooted. A shuddering noise startled my sleepy sister and she screamed. If it was not for the sound of breaking wood, I swear I would’ve hit her for the irritating scream.

We ran out of her room. To our shock, the rest of the house had collapsed. My instinct pulled my sister and myself away from the debris and towards to exit. “Daniel! No wait!” She wringed out her hand and ran towards a photo frame. It was mom and dad’s marriage picture. The frame’s glass had shattered. Wind, trees, shattered glass and amidst of all that I could see my parents, dead. I tried to hold myself together but the emotions were too powerful. Tears were flowing with the same velocity as the wind.

Another uprooted tree smashed right on our lawn. That helped me gain my equanimity back. I couldn’t let my sister see ANYTHING. I pulled her out and that was some work! We came to the open air, away from the trees. Some houses were lucky, there were no trees around them. I could hear our neighbour, Mrs. Singh screaming,”It’s on the news! Category five!” I called out to my sister who still stared at our remaining home hoping that our parents would emerge out of nowhere. “Rachel come fast. The Singh family is leaving.” We joined them soon. I checked the time; it was just 3 am. They were always a happy-lot but I saw their faces: The same horror and sad expression that everyone else wore.

Rachel kept swearing in the car. She burst into tears and kept saying that she wanted to kill herself. Our consolation and encouragement were of no help either. On any other day, I’d call her mad but today, I was going through the same. Outside, I could see hands, legs, dead bodies and a lot of red.

Apparently, the night wasn’t over. Mr. Singh did not know where to go. He just kept on driving. The radio did not work either. Out of all the possible directions, he chose the one going straight towards the eye of the hurricane. We didn’t know that until dawn. That’s when we could see the hurricane, right ahead of us. He stopped the car. A mind-blowing scene. I had never seen such a beautiful combination of water and wind but this was no time to eulogise the enemy. My sister opened the door and gave herself away. She was sucked up and that was the last I saw of her. I hated myself. I could have saved her. I could have saved everyone. I cried non-stop on the spot. I know that was no time for me to cry. The Singh family spared a few emotions before driving their car away. I was left there, alone.

Next, when I opened my eyes, I was lying on a hospital bed. The nurse did a cursory scan over me and revealed that I had suffered minor injuries. Not really. She could not scan my heart. She could not feel empathy for me. I knew my suffering was going to be endless. Images of mom, dad, rachel tore my heart apart. I was going to be an orphan. The nurse told me to calm down and control my feelings. Survivor’s guilt, that’s what killed my sister.

Should I have done the same thing that Rachel did? Is there anything left for me now that Katrina has spared me? Did I deserve a second chance?

Why does our society accept scenes of violence so easily but react strongly against nudity?

If a woman breast feeds a child, they draw attention, some of it negative. Even where it is legal to do they feel the need to cover up, and people will whisper “we don’t want to see that”. Watch a reality show such as the Survivor, at least on the American version (on CBS), if the tiniest bit of breast or bum crack is showing, they blur it out. Yet they freely show physical fights.

Remember the 2004 scandal when Jacket Jackson suffered a “wardrobe malfunction” (during the Super Bowl on CBS) that revealed her breast? You would have thought something really serious happened, people complained to the television networks, Live programming now had to face a two minute delay. CBS was facing a fine of more than half a million dollars. But the news could air acts of violence any time it wanted, and many television shows, even kids programming, can indulge in showing acts of violence.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/polinasergeeva/3052373944/

If we show a sex toy people are irate, but show a gun, and it is okay. In fact people even give toy guns to kids.

When social networking sites share links they must tag nudity with NSFW (not safe for work), but you will seldom see this tag on links about violence.

Kids are taken to events for fighting, both staged, and real, but heaven forbid let a kid see a nipple and it is as though the world exploded.

To be clear the nudity here is not porn, not graphic sex, simply the real human body as it is under our clothing… why are we ashamed? What is wrong with our society?

What would you do for $500,000?

Former “Survivor” producer Bruce Beresford-Redman took out two life insurance policies on his wife a week prior to finding her body in a Cancun, Mexico, hotel sewer.

Witnesses claim that one of the two life insurance policies was worth $50,000 if a death occurs accidentally while traveling. The next life insurance policy would pay $500,000. Policies were even taken out on the couple’s children.

Professionals explained that revelation of the insurance policies only compiles the case opposing Bruce Beresford-Redman, who Mexican authorities have identified as their main suspect of interest in the death of Monica Beresford-Redman.

The policies were bought in late March, one was purchased from Worldwide Insurance, the other on-line.

Purchasing these policies could have been a motive to kill his wife. This murder could have also been premeditated by him so he could get that money and be financially stable.

So you want to become a hero? Well, you can't become a hero! Find out why.

Recently CBS Television began another season of their hit series Survivor. This latest addition to the Survivor franchise is called Survivor: Heroes Vs Villains. The heroes in this installment of Survivor were people who struck a chord on the heart strings of the viewing public in past seasons. These heroes were those people who the viewers thought were heroes because of their actions or personalities. Throughout Survivor’s run on television, some have inadvertently become heroes, while some people come to the series with the intention of becoming a hero. Some, who have strived to become a hero, have succeeded, yet others are viewed as a villain instead. In this respect Survivor is just mirroring life in what happens when a person tries to cast themselves in the role of a hero. What happens more often than not, when you try to assume, or maintain, the role of the hero, is that you will fail.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hexadecimal_time/2258869248/

One problem, in trying maintain status as hero, is that when a person begins to realize that they are viewed as a hero sometimes they begin to change in ways that make them not so heroic. Their egos take over in an unhealthy way. They become so obsessed with maintaining their status as hero that their actions are performed out of concern for public image instead of a concern for what is actually the right thing to do. Their decisions are made based on how they will be viewed by the public. They begin the second guess themselves on what and what not to do to insure their status as hero. This obsession with public relations is anything but heroic. This obsession usually becomes an active plan on how best to manipulate the perceptions of others. Manipulation is in no way a heroic act. Manipulation is, in fact, a villainous act. Granted at times the would-be hero is so into their own personal dillusions of grandeur that they do not realize they are involved in this type of manipulation. This is, perhaps, forgivable. At other times these would-be heroes are completely aware of their manipulation of others. This is not so forgivable.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/wili/2058038976/

Those who do not already have status as a hero and who set out to gain that status at times do succeed as a result of their manipulation of public perception. However, they do not succeed at actually becoming a hero. What they succeed at is creating the perception that they are a hero. This perception is like a house of cards that can fall with the slightest breeze. Sometimes that breeze is some dark secret that is uncovered about the would-be hero. Others times that breeze is as simple as the would-be hero talking about how they are a hero and how their actions should be viewed as heroic. We have all heard people who honk their own horn. We all know how we view people who honk their own horn. If a would-be hero is not skillful in their manipulative personal attempts at marketing themselves as a hero they will not be viewed in a positive light.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/4463114254/

How does one become a hero? You can not become a hero. Actively becoming a hero is an impossible feat. Heroes are not made. Heroes just come into existence. One day you are just an average person and then you do something extraordinary without thinking about it. You do that extraordinary thing from the heart and you become a hero. You do not realize that the action you did made you a hero. Someone tells you “that was heroic”, and you say a simple “thank you”, and go about your life.
