Adolf Hitler was the failed leader of the German Nazi Political Party during World War 2. During the war, Hitler’s forces killed millions of civilians including gypsies, homosexuals and Jews. After finally being defeated in 1945, Hitler and his wife, Eva Braun, committed suicide.

The word swastika is Aryan in origin. In Sanskrit, the ancient language spoken by the Aryan, the word svasti meant “Be well,” or more colloquially, “Good luck.” It is from svasti that the word swastika comes. The Aryans first associated the symbol with the fire god Agni, which may indicate that swastika, predates the Aryans and is of prehistoric origin. Some scholars believe that it may at first have symbolized the spindle-drill, one of the oldest methods of making a fire: a spark was created by spinning a small stick inside another piece of wood-and hence “Good luck” was needed, since acquiring the skill was one of prehistoric peoples’ greatest achievements.

We are all painfully aware of the negative Nazi association with this symbol, BUT, we should not forget that this symbol is ancient, it did not start with the Nazi’s and it would be a shame to let it end there, when potentially, analysis could provide a startling insight into human history.
