Smoking rates are declining overall, and that’s good news for the health of society, but bad news for state tax coffers. With increasing prices – and taxes – on packs of cigarettes, states are looking to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tagging of cigarettes as a way to counteract the burgeoning problems of counterfeiting and smuggling “smokes.”
