Do you sometimes feel that you decide completing any task but despite having capability, you do not find “energy” in yourself, by which you can complete that task in any logical way? You anyhow start that work but gradually lose your interest and could not finish the task at hand and therefore, it remains incomplete for ever. This develops bitterness and feeling of failure. All these things happen when there is low or absence of motivation.

Motivation is a very important topic; we can bring a positive and meaningful change in our life by understanding it fully. Let’s examine what is Motivation? What is its importance in our lives? What is the relation of motivation with success? Which factors are essential for elevating motivation and what are the factors that reduce or kill motivation?

In simple words, motivation is a name of “energy” or “power” that enables a person following his targets with full heart and soul. In the presence of Motivation the journey of a person keeps on moving ahead automatically and a person completes the most difficult tasks happily and easily. Will power and motivation are the essential ingredients for success.

It is the same power that pushes a worshipper leaving his warm bed in the severe cold for worshipping, convinces any soldier performing his duty in unfavorable conditions in a desert. It is a strange power that uplifts a person for converting impossible tasks into possible ones and it its absence the easiest task seems impossible.

In respect of motivation different experts have put their ideas in front of the world, all are important in their places, but the idea that received the most popularity was presented by American Professor Abraham Mosley in 1943. In this Article we will examine his idea thoroughly/in detail, understanding which we will be able getting the answer of the question, “What are those factors that affect motivation?”

The Abraham Mosley’s idea about Motivation cleared on the world that there are five types of human necessities in life, which on step by step completion elevates motivation in human and in case of non completion of these requirements, motivation starts declining. It must be cared much that the order of these requirements are very important because their order is set as per their importance. The human needs according to Professor Abraham Mosley are:

1- Physiological Needs

Physical needs are the foremost needs of human life, without which it is not possible keeping alive. These needs include food, shelter and cloth. With the civilization progress there are many other needs in the modern age that can be included in the category of physical needs as per our standards of living.

2- Security Needs

After fulfilling the physical needs, security needs are important. Who is not aware of the importance of security needs? A person cannot focus in the presence of insecure feelings and remained overwhelmed in variety of doubts. Possible fears about future keep him worried all the time.

Every person feels the necessity that his life and wealth would have no fears at all. He should have security in wealth and social affairs. The better condition of law and order, justice in the country, reliable punishment and reward system, conduct of merit in the society, arrangement of safety from accidents and health fulfills the human security needs.

3. Love and Belonging Needs

After fulfilling the health and security needs love and belonging needs are important. We all know that human is a social animal. He possesses the natural desire of giving and receiving love. Due to this need he makes friends, grows family and searches his life partner, all these things help him creating emotional bonding with others. These relations can both be sexual or non-sexual. It is also in his instinct that he wants to be a part of group whether religious, political or social.

Doing all this fulfills his requirement of love and relation. If his requirement of love is not fulfilled fully he feels himself lonely and the extreme feeling of loneliness can create depression in him. The most important aspect of this need is that in case of non-fulfillment, a person may also lose interest in the fulfillment of physical and security needs. You might have seen many people who leave eating food, leave there houses and sometimes leave their lives as well, in case they fail in getting love or face separation from their loving personality,

4. Esteem Needs

Every person has a natural need that he must be respected. He desires that other people admire his qualities and abilities present in his personality, he receives acceptance everywhere and he must be seen as respectable. In order to fulfilling this need people associate themselves with different activities and hobbies which creates a sense of contribution in him and the need of self-esteem fulfills.

If this need is not fulfilled to a considerable extent, his self-esteem gets affected and in some cases he can become a victim of inferiority complex. The more the people have low self esteem, the more they need admiration and respect from others. Such people are more inclined getting popularity and dignity, because in this way they get more respect and honor from people.

The interesting thing in this respect is that the people with low self-esteem do not get satisfaction even by the getting respect and honor externally rather the improvement process starts only when they recover their self-esteem internally. The depression cases are more critical. Such people cannot show any extraordinary performances due to their mental condition, and hence, neither considered deserving of any respect or admiration nor succeed internally recovering their low self-esteem.

5. Self Actualizing Needs

Among Abraham Mosley’s idea of needs this is the last one. The relation of this need is with the desire that if someone is using his full potential or not. It is the name of the desire by which a person wants to achieve every possible thing in life. This is an exemplary situation.

It can also be described as the growth process has not stopped in a person but is still going on with the time. The needs of self actualizing can be different in different people. Some people satisfy their desire of self actualizing by putting their energies in painting, photography, poetry and inventions.

Understanding the above mentioned details you would have guessed that these cover almost every aspect of our needs in life. There is no easy or short way keeping you motivated all the time but it is worth taking care of all these necessities in an orderly way as stated above.

Only financial stability and progress is not a guarantee of happy life but a human personality is a combination of variety of needs and every need has its own importance. All these requirements are entire reality and demand their fulfillment. Ignoring any one of these can only create a long term complexities in any one.

We often indulge in a mistake of using all of our energies, abilities and time for fulfilling any one of the above mentioned needs, while ignoring other needs of our personality. As a result, in due course of time, our motivation starts declining and ultimately we come across a mental condition where we feel lack of motivation.

The only way of dealing this situation is that we shall examine our life style and priorities carefully and evaluate the following:

To what extent can we fulfill these needs?

Where are we making mistake?

What important aspects of our life demand our attention and time?

After fulfilling all these requirements considerably, a person becomes capable of passing a complete, fulfilled, happy and satisfied life and develops an unlimited providence of energy that enables him achieving any target in life without much difficulty.

Thoughts (okay, more like blues) about Christmas and the coming new year.

I listened to a great song yesterday.

The Chorus went something like this;

“Let faith arise

I lift my hands to believe again

You are my refuge

You are my strength

As I pour out my heart

These things I remember

You are faithful God.

Forever”

I need hope to rise again in my heart.

For the Christmas just ended.

And for the coming year, 2012.

My first Christmas in the US

It was a different Dec 25th this year. Away from family and friends, the norm – from weather, food to folk.

I received my gift from God though (you can claim yours too).

There was no snow!

Sorry to all the folk who wanted a white Christmas! Personally, I just wanted weather that was as close to what am used to as possible.

The temperatures were super cold but I got my sunshine!

We attended a Christmas day service.

Sort of.

We did not leave the parking lot but stayed in the car.

Through the service.

Talking to family and friends in Kenya.

With an eight hour time difference, we hadn’t thought-through just how long it would take.

Drove back home.

Had chocolate and non-alcoholic wine for lunch.

Napped in the afternoon.

Turkey dinner at a sister’s wrapped up the day. (Yes, I did say turkey..it’s not thanksgiving. But chicken – or anything remotely resembling a chicken – is a great feature in any Kenyan holiday meal)

Zero fanciness this Christmas.

I have lived long enough to know that the ripples of a life in transition go deeper than I’d like to admit sometimes. I may not see or accept or recognize the symptoms of transition either.

Like being cranky.

Moody.

Right now, I just know that I miss home, my friends, life. Christmas has just made it real..am not home anymore.

New beginnings are just so un-frilly!.

2012

Yeah, I am also wound-up about the coming year.

Just so you know, I have never liked planning things to the detail.

Especially when it concerns setting goals for a new year.

I am a happy choleric/sanguine mix that loves to discover, create, invent life along the way. Planning for it kinda just kills all the fun. Not to mention it’s a whole lotta work. And it ties me down to do what I said I would do. (Now where’s the fun in order!)

Nonetheless, a long while back, I realized that figuring out where one wants to go before starting out is just smart. Period.

I needed a cure for my “planning” aversion (and I know am not alone in trying to escape planing life), a way of making it easy.

Or at least possible.

Keep it simple.

And short.

Was my grand discovery.

Nothing earth shattering of course.

But it tends to work great.

I already know that the harder a goal sounds or looks like on paper/screen, the harder it will be to accomplish.

In other words, if it’s sounds impossible, not within my reach on paper (and too much detail has a way of doing that), the will to do fizzles. I end up being repulsed by a task I haven’t even began.

The year affords me the opportunity to change and flesh out things, drop items from the list, change the approach e.t.c. So why kill the thing before it begins to fly?

Planning for 2012

Most of my 2011 goals were just roll-overs from 2010. Things that I did not accomplish in 2010 but remained high on the achievement list nonetheless.

So this year I am doing the same. If it was not accomplished in 2011 and it’s still important, it forms part of my 2012 goals.

This is how I will do it;

Write a simple outline, a sentence or two.

No more than five or six goals – less is better. Other sub-goals can develop from there, but I will keep the main thing short, crisp and precise.

I don’t know how you set your goals for a new year (or if you do at all).

If you don’t, I encourage you to begin this year. (If I can, so can you!)

If you already set goals for a new year but always find it a struggle, you can remember this this year;

It doesn’t have to be a long, fancy, gooey 5-page document.

Just a simple idea of where you want to be next year a time like this..specific things you’d like to have done/accomplished.

Try and keep it short. Don’t attempt to accomplish three year-worth of work in one year.

Let it stretch you a little bit but don’t make so lofty that it scares you more than it motivates.

You can flesh it out further (time-frames and specific details e.t.c) but do not let the details stop you from getting the first three things done

You don’t have to get everything all thought out by Dec 31st 2011! You just cannot hurry the thinking process. If you do, you end up with something you do not like! I have drifted into February on more than one occasion.

From experience, the first three can get you pretty far!

Ah yes, forgot to mention that this is a written-down kind of thing.

You need to glance (actualy more like look, study, adjust, mull over) things down the year, otherwise you won’t remember a thing by March.

Do you begin the year by writing new year goals? How do you go about it?

How to organize your personal time and effort

in today’s world is that everyone played multiple roles – have different goals. There are many things we do. To achieve all that we can maintain our objectives and maximize use of time and resources, we must be the organizers of a large amount of time. Using a minimum of 5 minutes each day to produce concrete results – you can start with the indicators listed below.

Step 1

Set your goals with deadlines. Keep your eyes on the goals of helping to eliminate unnecessary activities and allow you to stay focused, do what you want.

Step 2

Having one of the organizers track all agreements, commitments and deadlines to ensure that nothing were lost. Earlier this year, mark important dates (like birthdays, renewal of subscription) on your calendar and check these at the beginning of each month.

Step 3

Learn to say “no” to activity which is not necessary.

To keep the house clean, each family member must meet specifications. To clean up after them, clean their rooms and to make the bed, is not duties – they are part of life. Divide tasks according to age and abilities of children.

Steps

Make a list of tasks to be divided.

Separate tasks into three age categories: beginner (pre), intermediate (middle school) and advanced (high school students and adults).

Assign or let your children make the foremost tasks according to age.The tasks for beginners is to put table and arrange socks, intermediate tasks is to wash the dishes and take care of your pet; advanced tasks is to clean the bathroom, vacuum and give help with food preparation.

Give what remains if adult children are not able to do what you have said.

Add more tasks and more important as children demonstrate their skills and competence.

Rotate tasks so that all take turns heavier loads.

Tips

To determine how many tasks have to give a child, share your child’s age: 10 years a child gets five tasks, each gets 16 years in August.

If a child complains of a task or a bad meet, he gets an extra next week.

You have to work on a pool of tasks every day. If you are unable to complete them in time, you get stressed out. Know how to shorten your list.

You plan to do many things in a day. But at the end of the day your tasks remain uncompleted. You keep a to-do list with you but discover in a short while that it is of no help to you. In a short while, you will find a pile of tasks uncompleted. As it gets longer, you are likely to complete it in time. Definitely, in a week, you find it impossible to complete them.

Always remember, making a to-do list daily is not enough. It is important to understand the key aspects of it and work on it further. To start with, recognise that a list is only a set of tasks which you have to complete. It is just a raw collection and primary problem comes in this stage when you don’t know how to get to it. Often, you forget certain things when you are under stress. So the to-do list only helps you to remember the tasks, needed to be done in time.

Sometimes, you may feel, it is very long and surreal to achieve. To make the list useful you have define the parameter ‘when’.

Schedule

The list has a meaning when you enter the schedule of different tasks. For this purpose, you can use a PDA, time management software or a dairy to make different schedules. This benefits you a lot. Your focus shifts to how long you have to work on each task, thereby making you realistic about your goals.

Prioritise

It is not possible to do all the tasks on the list on the same day. So, it is better to prioritise. Rank the tasks according to your needs and group them, according to the order of importance. Now, start working according to the schedule. Initially, you get irritated and find it difficult. In that case, pay more attention to how you are spending the day.

Log all the details of activities every hour, you are occupied with. Repeat this for a week and soon you will realise where your schedule went wrong. It helps to identify your mistakes in assessing how much time a task would take. If you are unnecessarily wasting your time, learn to concentrate on your work. If you are assessing the duration of the task improperly, then work on preparing a more realistic schedule.

The best to prioritise the tasks is based on the creative energy they require. According to your taste, separate the tasks into interesting and boring ones. This method keeps you energetic even during cheerless parts of the day. All you can prioritise the tasks based on where to do them. Some tasks have to be done at the office and some tasks like sending messages, mails can be done while commuting.

Preparing schedule for tasks in your list does not guarantee that all of them are accomplished. But, you can be strategic about what is left behind and start the next day on a confident note despite feeling helpless and frustrated about failing.

Many people suffer from procrastination and it hurts their work output. Here are a few tips to help cure this infamous virus.

Do you delay your projects until the last minute? If so, then you are stricken with infamous virus known as procrastination. Procrastination is the primary reason for decreasing of productivity and potentially delayed output. Despite most people not admitting it, if they started their work in a timely fashion, their results would benefit.

Most people see procrastination as more of a habit and that’s not good. Instead, they should be viewing procrastination as an obstacle to overcome. Though sometimes you are just in a rut and cannot start anything on time. I understand, believe me. The consequences of these actions can come biting you in the you know what.

If you know you have this problem and you are seeking helpful information, these tips will help you become more productive:

1. Set Schedules for Yourself – It is very important that you have a list of activities to accomplish per day. This will help you realistically budget your time and resources. One of the cardinal sins people commit in regards to performing their tasks is to put off their work because they feel like there is so much time left. A journal, organizer, or calendar of events will help you plan and schedule your task so that you can start them promptly and finish them on time.

2. Save the Relaxation for Another Time – Too many folks put their work off for another time saying, “I’ll just have a tiny bit of fun then get down to business.” Even though, it may be true in their case, that the time they have left over will be more than enough, having your work done before fun time could make you feel better.

Wouldn’t relaxing be so much sweeter if it were after a task that needed to be done? If you choose to sit back and chill before doing your work, you will be more exposed to burning yourself out and will have less than exciting events to look in the near future. It is always better to have bumming off period AFTER a job than before one, especially considering that people overuse their slack time. This is suicide if an urgent deadline is heading your way.

3. Try not to Underestimate Your Tasks – I do this all the time. I’m given an assignment and it sounds pretty simple. I thinking to myself “I’ll start it a few days before it’s due and I’ll be good”. Well guess what? That is the wrong attitude. I find myself scrambling to finish the work. Even though, my work is done on time, the results of it are less than impressive and I tell myself this needs to stop. No matter how trivial the task, it still takes time and resources to accomplish. If you underestimate a task, you will most likely set too little time to do it.

4. Don’t Allow Yourself to Get Comfortable During Inactivity – It would definitely help if you kept a subconscious alarm whenever you are inactive. Get this alarm to remind you of things that may need to be finished. This will help you foster the notion that jobs accomplished now means more time for to relax very soon. However, even if this is the case, do not forget to put ample time in for rest so you can remove all thoughts of troubles before hitting the sack. Try not to overdue your rest, though. That’s the trick. Always set the right amount of time for rest and stick to that schedule.

Stay on task – How to focus on their work and stop wasting so much time

How can you stay on task and focus on the modern office environment? After all, there are all these gadgets to distract you from your work. Only the computer itself is connected to the world. News, e-mail, Facebook, messaging systems. What about cell phones? Put these together, if you do not have a good self-discipline, it is very difficult to concentrate.

How can you concentrate on your work? How to stop wasting time? Personally, I discussed a couple of people, and it worked well for me. Sure, sometimes I still get distracted, but the incidence is much lower now.

1. Be organized

How are they organized? Is it through a task list? How to organize your task list? Even if you have one, you must meet the religious-do list. Give up excuses to postpone all the elements that make things worse for you. Add a little discipline in your life so you can keep track of their daily work.

2. Simplify your task

Is it possible that you can share your work in small simple tasks? Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed by a heavy task and start to have an excuse to distract. It’s an excuse not to see something seems insurmountable. Learn how you can simplify large jobs into small pieces, so you can stay on task.

3. Keep the list

Related to be organized, must have the discipline to follow the schedule. This is slightly different as it is to keep time. Even if you have a to do list, give yourself a schedule to be complete. Otherwise, your task list just a moving target. It is therefore difficult for you to stay on task.

4. Set goals

Give yourself daily goals that you want to do before the end of the day. Of course, to be realistic. It makes no sense to be more ambitious, and not a final. Be realistic. Start with small goals. Maybe finish three important tasks of the day? Then increase the number of jobs the next day. Go to the next step each time you complete a goal, as always in place.

5. Plan your day

One way to be on the task is to plan your day. Planning for the day if possible. This allows you to stay focused on the task ends. It is hard to overlook the work that has been pre-planning and planning a day in advance. When you use this and the other does, you will manage to stay on task.

6. Keep a routine

Tell you it’s not things like “I do not have courage or inspiration or idea to start xxx days.” Take a routine when you do certain work packages. For example, the reply e-mail early in the morning. Preparation for the work week to report every Tuesday . In this way, it does so routinely and excuses for not coming in.

7. Clear job today

easiest way to maintain focus is to eliminate the working day. Empty your inbox and your email address in the box before leaving the house today. Today, the work should be done today, not tomorrow, not when the urge comes.

8. Remove distractions

Turn off your cell phone, turn off the chat and messenger. Close your browser. Eliminating distractions is another way to stay on task. Focus on work and workflow. As an artist, when you press the speed, it will be difficult to stop.

Try these steps for action to stay on task. They are called measures of action and stop wasting so much time and effort to take action. Concentrate on what you do.

Decisions are the turning points of the path of your life journey. Which means one is free to take decision to continue to move forward in the direction the life is going and growing, go up to raise your life higher, take an exit to change the direction if you are not happy with the way life is, turn left to go left, turn right to go right or take a U turn to go back. As everyone has a free will, that means everyone is free to create the life one wants and the way to do is to take right correct timely thoughtful decisions. Below are some tools of the trade to master:

Time: What you want to do with time is a decision. You can do anything with the time in hand. So time is the enabler or resource and it is up to you in terms of how to leverage it. Either you can waste it in negativity, fear, ego, fight and hatred or you can utilize it in creativity, growth, learning, productivity and love. In the same time you can smoke or exercise, stress or meditate, hurt or heal, break or build.

Team: What kind of people you associate with? Your team creates your environment. Many success stories as well as bigger projects are team work and you are as good or as bad as your team. If you pick and spend time with negative, unproductive, losers, characterless, moral-less, bad quality and waste people than your failure is a surety. The affect of associations will reflect in your life and you must create a creative inspiring constructive positive winning team by finding and keeping the right people.

Temperament: Temperament is your attitude, patience, your behavior, how you treat others, how you react, emotional intelligence and how you handle stress and tough situations. Whether you quit or mindfully analyse, act and conquer.

Thoughts: How you want to be? What you want to do? Where you want to live? What kind of friends you want to have? Do you prefer love or your own ego? Do you want to admit your own faults? Would you take responsibility of your behavior? Do you see the big picture? Can you see from other person’s point of view? Are you always right? What are the right priorities? What to do next? Thoughts are the predecessor of words we speak and our actions and influence every single decision.

Talks: What to speak is again an important decision. Talks can make or break hearts. Good talk makes friends and wins enemies. Talk can motivate self and others. Talk can either bring the best or worst from others. Every single spoken word makes a difference either positive or negative. Timely talk can save relationship and lives. Avoiding talk can make you loose contacts, opportunities and business.

Tasks: Tasks are actions. Well planned, prepared, thoughtful tasks result in successful desired outcomes whereas chaotic, unplanned, hasty, mindless tasks result in losses and failures. Again every action has a definite reaction. Therefore this is the final frontier, if something is not observed, managed, controlled and corrected at thought and talk level, then one must be ready to bear the inevitable consequences of karma.

How my life is.

My day starts out:

1 Waking up (I fumble out of bed)

2 Eat breakfast (coffee and something small)

3 Fall back asleep for a half hour

4 Get up again (this time with more energy)

5 Get dressed and washed (not that bad)

6 Go to school (I hate the short drive I wish it was longer)

7 Have an annoying boring day at school since I’m a loner. (I do everything pretty much alone)

8 Come home (Always happy to be home!)

9 Drink a coffee and eat something

10 Sleep for a little bit (for a few hours)

11 Eat dinner (usually soup)

12 Do homework or video games (best time of day)

13 Go to bed (hate this because I know I need to get to to do this all over in the morning)

14 Start all over. My life is pretty boring I don’t do anything in terms of sports of teams so ya.

How is life on your side please comment. Because I hope your is more interesting then mine!
