This book deals in detail with World War II and how the Allies pulled off a victory when it seemed that the Axis powers might just prevail. A very interesting novel, easy read, and extremely informative. It brings about a new perspective of World War II at realizing the closeness of Defeat verses Victory.

Richard Overy in 1995 published his novel titled Why the Allies Won; Overy is a professor of modern history at King’s College in London and has published numerous works on World War II. Why the Allies Won is inclusive to Overy’s in depth study of why the allies won World War II, when it seemed that the axis powers were ahead until 1942-1943. Overy begins by clearly laying out the basic information as to why the allies did win. He discusses three major elements of World War II in terms of where the battles were: in the sea, in the air, and on the ground. By doing this he is clearly illustrates the allies’ rough situation upon entering the war, and how they were able to improve their performance both militarily and economically and come out of World War II victorious.

Overy discusses, in great detail, the war at sea. He goes into depth discussing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which ultimately cause the United States to enter the war. He talks about the intelligence of the allies and how they were eventually able to break the code of submarine warfare tactics which allowed them to defeat the German U-boats. The code-breaking and radar technology allowed their anti-submarine warfare tactics to become technologically superior alongside the United States Navy; both of which led to the demise of the German U-boat threat and the Japanese Navy.

The war in the air, as portrayed by Overy, consisted of more ineffectiveness, than actual effectiveness. Overy illustrates how the American bombing offensive had cause disruptions in Germany’s economy and actually diverted Germany’s resources to Reich. However, Overy also illustrates the importance of the American bombers along with the new radar technology, when dealing with the Japanese Navy and locating submarines. In one aspect, Overy does not seem to give the air force enough credit, but then in other areas he illustrates the importance of the aircraft with the bombings. For example, he talks of the Soviet air force and how their skill and confidence was aided in the allies winning the war; however, he compares that to the Germans and Japanese who were more militarized at the beginning of the war. In the way Overy compares the nations, he clearly illustrates that the allies had to learn how to fight in war; while the axis powers were already prepared for war.

The difference between the allies and the axis powers military skills, according to Overy, aided in the allies’ victory. The axis powers were prepared for war, while the allies had to learn war. The allies being pulled into the war, especially Britain and America were not as prepared but could then use more modern technology to create better equipment. This element is obviously important in answering the question of why the allies won and Overy does not ignore its importance. The technological advances and quality was illustrated numerous times when dealing with aircraft, bombers, submarines, tanks, and radars. He also illustrated how Germany was also working to improve their technology. In return, Germany developed too many weapons that were not as effective as their old, while at the same time, the Soviets continued working on making fewer new models of weapons but mass-producing their old weapons. As Overy also points out, this is an economic downfall to Germany as they are spending money trying to create something new, that in return fails, the Soviet Union spend their money producing the same equipment and not losing money in the long run.

The weapons proved vital for on the ground warfare. The axis while having better trained soldiers, focused on placing their combat troops in the front and not many in the rear. The allies placed more emphasis on using their troops for supply purposes which allowed them to continue warfare without break unlike the axis troops which were constantly running out of supplies and getting bombarded by the axis while waiting for supplies. Overy illustrates in precise detail the statistics of the allied resources in comparison to the axis resources and in return he portrays the obvious superior allied supply forces. The axis powers were lacking in shipping, tanks, aircraft, oil, steel, ordnance and ammunition as well as man power. All of these, the allied troops had plenty; they relied on obtaining their steel from American and was able to extract twice as much oil as the axis powers. The axis powers had oil; however, Overy points out that they did not have the drilling equipment to obtain the oil. The oil that Germany had and was able to extract was watered down by the time it reached the battle fields, which decreased its octane levels. Germany was unable to successfully extract and transport the high octane oil that, in particular, was vital for their aircrafts.

For the war on the ground the Soviet military force had been nearly defeated in 1941, after the near defeat, Stalin placed strict guidelines on the troops about desertion as well as surrender. Stalin told all troops that any soldier of any stature who muttered surrender or deserted the troops was to be shot down. The soviet military troops were quick to learn from their mistakes in 1941, and Overy points out how they organized themselves better and quickly became an overwhelming ground force that held massive defeats at Stalingrad and Kursk. Overy also points out that with the, now highly skilled, Soviet military and the inexperienced American troops working together axis illusion of victory would quickly fade.

Overy illustrates key elements in all the tactics made by the prominent military figures. Overy dedicates an entire chapter discussing not only the well-known military figures such as Churchill, Stalin, and Hitler, but he also points out key figures that are typically looked over and not often appreciated. Little known figures such as Alexander Novikove, who was the architect of the Red air force, and Alexei Antonov who became the chief of staff after 1943 is portrayed by Overy as being important to the allies winning World War II, but often ignored by other historians.

Overy examines six different settings in answering the question of why the allies won. He begins by discussing the navy powers and used the Coral Sea and midway, and the Battle of the Atlantic to illustrate the allied Navy powers. He used Stalingrad and Kursk to portray air warfare tactics. Finally, he used the strategic bombing offensives and Normandy to portray the technological and leadership aspects of allied victory.

One element that Overy also includes in a separate chapter is that of morality and the moral aspects of war. This is an element that is important to World War II and the allies’ victory over the axis powers. In this chapter Overy includes the atomic bomb and nuclear warfare that was used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While the super bomb was effective in winning the wars the result of the atomic bomb was much more horrific than anyone anticipated. While there were originally three atomic bombs only two hit their target and left massive destruction and devastation after the realization of the atomic bomb it was a morality issues and decided that nuclear warfare would never occur again. When dealing with warfare Overy points out that civilian lives are commonly lost to the best of soldiers abilities, but to the extent of nuclear weapons, morally and ethically it was wrong.

Also in dealing with morality, Overy explains the Japanese warfare tactics with suicide bombers and people willing to give their lives knowing it would be lost, in comparison, with the allied troops who were willing to fight to the death. The difference between fighting in war with the intent to fight to the death verses fighting to die brought about another great point in not only warfare but the different nationalities and cultures that were involved in the World War II.

Why the Allies Won is a novel that would be a great addition to any historians library or simply for a World War II enthusiast. This book provides great insight on World War II and an in depth look at the allied verse axis powers. Throughout Overy’s book a reader is pummeled with historical statistics and data that make the book perfect for research. In addition to research the book is overall an easy read, and both accurate and reliable facts. The book is a quick read and can provide much insight into intricate details often overlooked about World War II, as well as makes readers question and wonder what would have happened had the axis actually been victorious instead of the allies. One downfall that I discovered in the book was that it took some getting into. Like any great literary work the beginning can often seem dry and loose the interest of readers, for me it began slowly but by the time one reaches beyond the first chapter the book is one that is difficult to put down. The range and use of blending both allied and axis information into each page keeps the readers in tuned to a chronological aspect, although the book is not in chronological order from cover to cover, and helps the readers realize how things played out. I found it to be fascinating how Overy includes a cultural historians point of view in the book with the included chapter about the morals of war and the different moralities concerned with each nation, how those morals differed yet the soldiers were all present to win the war.

In conclusion, Overy allows readers to thoroughly understand the outcome of World War II by illustrating elements such as: technological quality, combat prowess, organization and leadership, and even comments of fighting a moral war in order to express why the allies won World War II. Overy presents these thematic elements in a way that can easily be understood by readers, without omitting facts and statistics. Overy does not allow for any misconceptions when one finishes his book. From military leaders to battle plans, Overy covers the entire course of World War II, in order to answer the ultimate question that many people ask: how did the allies win the war after the axis powers were so far ahead.

Children are our future and for the sake of these fair minds we need to develop a tradition of exchanging gifts.

We learn and develop throughout our lives. I ponder that in our fresh planet it is very essential to be known in addition to computer technology. So, if I had a chance to give a youngster a gift it would be a computer. I think with the purpose of computer recreation a fundamental role in our lives and they carry many remuneration to our society. Moreover, children can study by use of computers. In the following paragraphs I will snap my reasons to help me answer.

Essential of all, by the use of computers children can play a lot of games, which help to improve children’s ability to ponder logically, think about their next step, etc. Moreover, playing athletic competition develop many valuable qualities such as attention, patience, persistence, etc. Flash of all, computers helps children to learn more apropos something by the use of the Internet. They can find new friend’s stable from another country. Children choice enrich their announcement skills, obtain supplementary wisdom and experience. Also, brood encloses a celebrated prospect to learn more vis-a-vis other countries, their history, traditions and customs. Finally, mainframe skills can facilitate a child to learn his or her leading job. A youngster can find an ad on the Internet about a job offer or he or she can bake a resume and place it on the Internet. Personally, I think it is an inordinate live through and big tread accelerate towards a hope career.

In addition to individuals feasible benefits, computer skill helps children to do their research faster. They can type their numbers into the computer, easily test out the grammar, fix mistakes and after that print it out. Moreover, there are plenty distinctive kinds of educational programs with the intention of can help kids learn how to read, write, draw and even how to behave and verbalize a foreign language.

To sum up, I deem with the intention of children must gather how to use notebook because this knowledge motivation make easier them in the future to be other self-confident and enterprising. Furthermore, computers can significantly improve and simplify their lives if brood know how to use them.

The Origins of birds and flights, a brief look on flying objects.

The ability to fly has been mankind’s dream for thousands of years, a goal toward which thousands of scientists and researchers have expended labor, time and money. Apart from a few very primitive experiments, it became possible to make self-propelled flying vehicles only in the 20th century. This feat, which mankind managed to achieve with the accumulated technology of centuries, is something that birds-known to have existed on Earth for the last 150 million years-have always performed to perfection. Even a new-born chick will soon acquire this special ability in a matter of weeks, which humans can manage only through advanced technology. How, then, did these astonishing creatures come into being?

Everyone who examines birds realizes that like other living things, they possess perfect anatomical systems. This leads to the inevitable conclusion that they are the products of flawless creation.

Yet proponents of the theory of evolution are reluctant to admit this.

According to Darwin’s theory of evolution, every living species evolved from a single common ancestor. This scenario means that the 100 million or so known species must all be descended from earlier versions of one another.1 To account for the origin and astounding variety of plants and animals, evolutionists propose two mechanisms: natural selection and mutations. (For detailed information, see Harun Yahya, The Evolution Deceit, United Kingdom: Ta-Ha Publishers Ltd. and Darwinism Refuted, New Delhi: Goodword Books Pvt. Ltd. November 2002.)

No rational, logical person can believe that an airplane assembled itself of its own accord. These components did not combine by chance to produce a vehicle capable of flight. On the contrary, the design of a plane reveals very detailed calculations at every stage of its manufacture. Many scientists and engineers have used their knowledge and experience and expended a great deal of time and effort. Birds, however, have been equipped with far superior aerodynamic characteristics. To examine birds, created with the ability to fly, and then claim that they came into being by chance, defies all reason and logic. The position of those who make such claims is revealed in the verse: “And they repudiated them wrongly and haughtily, in spite of their own certainty about them… “(Surat al-Naml, 14).

Yet neither mechanism has the ability to give rise to any new living thing. Mutations are random, typically harmful effects caused by anomalies in the DNA and are directed towards no particular purpose. Naturally, aimless and randomly occurring coincidences cannot give rise to living things that possess planned, orderly structures designed for specific objectives. Blind chance cannot endow living things with complex organs and systems.

The more those with common sense examine life forms, the more they will realize the nonsensical nature of the theory of evolution, which bases the origins of life on chance. Perceiving design but calling it purposeless, seeing order but calling it accidental, is nothing more than a deliberate denial of the facts. At the root of this denial lie evolutionists’ devotion to materialist philosophy and their bigoted reactions against the fact of creation. Rather than admit their Creator’s existence, evolutionists prefer to believe that blind chance is a mighty creative force and that this concept-an expression of purposeless, unconscious happenstance-can perform miracles.

But the distorted nature of this belief is easy to see: If you strew the components of an airplane on the ground, random forces such as wind, lightning, rain and earthquakes can never make them combine into a complete, functional aircraft. In addition, all the components in this example have already been created to be mutually compatible. Nonetheless, no matter how long one waits it is impossible for the parts to assemble themselves into a complete model. This finished product can come into being only if a conscious entity assembles all the components. Yet according to evolutionists, chance is able to produce systems incomparably more perfect than this example, as well as the most delicate balances. The logical contradiction here is obvious for anyone to see.

Every living thing is a unique marvel of creation. The proposed evolutionary mechanisms, on the other hand, lend no support to evolutionist claims. The first of these mechanisms-natural selection-assumes that those living things will survive that are best adapted to the challenges of the environment in which they live; while those unable to adapt will die out and disappear. According to evolutionists, this unconscious, automatic mode of elimination endows surviving individuals with ever-more complex organs and systems, but this claim has no valid proof or scientific basis. Observation has shown that natural selection serves only to weed out unfit individuals, but that there is no question of it endowing survivors with new organs and systems.

The well-known biologist D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson summarizes this point:

… We see in natural selection is not to create but to destroy—to weed, to prune, to cut down and to cast into the fire.2

The mechanism of natural selection does not support the theory of evolution, because it can never enrich a species’ genetic information. “Survival of the fittest” can never transform one species into another, because natural selection is an unconscious process. Therefore, natural selection is not a mechanism that can be used to account for the lavish diversity of living things, with their complex systems and perfected structures.

In short, natural selection has nothing to do with the emergence of any new species. Moreover, the natural selection process, being unconscious, is unable to contribute new genetic information to living things. In other words, even if natural selection does cause change in a living thing, that change cannot transmit itself on to subsequent generations. The only mechanism that can have impacts on genes is mutation—random damage to a living thing’s genetic structure, which has never been observed to add beneficial trait of any kind.3

Claims that evolution occurs by means of natural selection are invalid, because:

1) Natural selection cannot plan or envisage an organism’s future needs, and

2) Mutations can never endow a beneficial gain that leads to progress.

Professor John W. Oller of the University of New Mexico refers to the illogical nature of this claim of development through mutation:

Accidental design adjustments, as necessary for general evolution, are logical disasters. Random mutationsfrom radiation, replication errors, or other proposed sources, rarely result in viable design adjustments, never in perfect more advanced designs.4

Suppose you have determined that your life would be much more efficient if you had heat receptors in your body, or have felt the need for some other organ or ability that you think will confer an important advantage. Can you bring this about in your own body, by yourself? Could you bring into being a new organ or system that functions in a coordinated manner with immaculate timing, with all the other organs in your body, never making an error, that protects you by taking all the precautions you need and constantly strives to be beneficial to you? Could you then encode the proper genetic codes in your DNA so as to transmit this change to later generations?

The net effect of mutations is harmful, as in the case of the turtle in the picture .

Mutations provide no support for the theory of evolution, because:
- Mutations are always harmful
- Mutations add no new information to the DNA database.
- In order for any mutation to be passed along to subsequent generations, it must occur in the germ cells—an organism’s egg or sperm cells.

The results of mutation are typically handicaps, sickness, and
death.

That would be quite impossible, no matter how much you desired it or how much effort you expended. How, therefore, could unconscious molecules manage something that a rational and conscious entity like yourself cannot? There is thus no scientific basis to support the claim that unconscious molecules assembled the cell and then, by chance, carried out flawless adjustments in its genetic structure.

As a result, it is impossible for one living species to develop into a bird, with its own unique features including that of flight, by any so-called evolutionary mechanism, or for birds to evolve into still other living species. The infinite variety among living things is just one indication of the infinite knowledge and creative artistry of Allah. In order to deny this, evolutionists hide behind unrealistic explanations.

Over the last 20 years, when the complexity of life has become ever more clearly understood, an increasing number of scientists have reacted against the “chance dogma” supported by the theory of evolution. When asked about the dilemmas facing the theory of evolution, for example, Michael Denton, a molecular biologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand, criticizes the claims made for random mutations:

The most serious objection I have is with the nature of mutation. Darwinism is based on the idea that all the mutations which have been selected during the course of evolution were, when they initially occurred, entirely random. Mutations are random… This is the essential bedrock of Darwinism. The mutational input into living things is, as it were, at random.

Darwinism is claiming that all the adaptive structures in nature, all the organisms which have existed throughout history, were generated by the accumulation of entirely undirected mutations. That is an entirely unsubstantiated belief for which there is not the slightest evidence whatsoever.

The second problem is that there are a vast number of complex systems in nature, and no matter how unglamorous this problem is, no matter how people try to look the other way, the fact is that a huge number of highly complex systems in nature cannot be plausibly accounted for in terms of a gradual build-up of small random mutations.

Indeed, in many cases, there does not exist in the biological literature even an attempt to explain how these things have come about. A classic example would be the lung of the bird, and I could mention some other ones, but everybody knows the lung of the bird is unique in being a circulatory lung rather than a bellows lung. I think it doesn’t require a great deal of profound knowledge of biology to see that an organ, which is so central to the physiology of any higher organism, its drastic modification in that way by a series of small events is almost inconceivable. This is something we can’t throw under the carpet again because, basically, as Darwin said, if any organ can be shown to be incapable of being achieved gradually in little steps, his theory would be totally overthrown.

The fact is that, in common-sense terms…here are a vast number of such cases in nature.5

That is Allah, your Lord. There is no god but Him, the Creator of everything. So worship Him. He is responsible for everything.
(Surat al-An‘am, 102)

All features of animals are so so finely calculated that even before they are hatched, they are provided with special organs for their individual species’ needs. Living things cannot have come into being by chance, in complete harmony with an environment which they have never seen. It is our Almighty Lord, Allah, Who creates living things together with their perfect systems.

The outcomes in the Faro Activate have already been verified by companies offering accident renovation solutions. These firms need to simulate accidents to become able to file and assess the accident. As a result of the 3 dimensional pictures from your vehicles involved as well as the railways inside the actual scene regarding accidents are often distributed about legislation administration for analysis. Consider for instance the Forensic Industry. Experts provide their knowledge to allied industries like transporting, insurance and lawful areas. Despite modern day moving facilities within the U . s . States as well as in other areas from the world, mishaps can happen resulting from human errors, insufficient diligence, or basic misfortune. So after they are undertaking, what the regulation states requires a corporation to describe the cause and effects of those accidents. In more mature times when nobody normally see accountancy firms uk what goes on throughout mishaps other than quite possibly, with all the unique reports from your witnesses. Having said that using the entertainment types of reverse engineering currently, experts get witness stories and can multiply the precise 3 dimensional scenario ahead of, all through right after the incident. For quite a few professionals, the simplest strategy to identify the purpose for any sort of incident could be to capture 3 perspective sorts of the vehicles concerned by utilizing the Faro Initialize. The 3 dimensional designs are then employed to evaluate the purpose for that incident, by re-creating a three perspective environment.

The Faro Initialize is frequently thought to be like a very good and important financial investment for practically all companies, particularly people involved with forensics. Aside from maximizing the government body systems in identifying what brings about any kind of accident, the Faro Activate may also be within a place to supply extra facts to make sure that safety safeguards may accounting firm uk possibly be place in place to stop an identical incident from occurring once more. Multiple of corporations inside the forensics market acknowledge the Return on expenditure by using arm systems arrives quickly. As an example, the polhemus permitted their businesses to evaluate occasions that may have been tough to do with no 3-D laser image resolution thus permitting scene re-creation provided by reverse innovation.

The solutions and explanations to a great deal connected with accidents take a while despite contemporary documents. Nevertheless with the provide from your Faro Initialize and software program from RE, the ‘forensics’ Sector has raised their efficiency degree and can now offer accounting services uk specific measurements and 3 dimensional models inside minutes or merely a couple of hrs. The Faro Activate is seriously a device which makes contrary engineering smooth. Also, it permits inspection and calibration of particular objects. As well as the right computer software, measurements are taken 1 stage further.

We want to spend our life, with all its ease and comfortabilaty.we need it as its best. As we suffer from many conditions to obtain it. This is all time worthy to get more and more. What can be other sides behind getting all, those we deserve, for those we want, and at last we are in success to get it. In this era, many other objects also make us more curious about all entertainment. These are all the rounding environmental behaviors. Like some time our sense of getting impress goes high. We take effect from our family members, our friends and others who get interact with us on daily basis. Objects source can be a lot like we impress from good clothing, shoes, cars, homes etc. Luxury goods are harvest and military that are not well thought-out crucial and are connected with material comfort. The concept of luxury has been present in a choice of forms since the beginning of development. Its role was just as important in ancient western and eastern realm as it is in modern societies. With the clear difference between social classes in earlier developments, the expenditure of luxury was limited to the elite classes. So mostly technology gives its best part for luxury elite classes. More than a few contrived products accomplish the status of luxury goods due to their mean, class, value, toughness or performance that are outstandingly bigger to the comparable replacement. Thus, virtually each category of goods obtainable on the market today includes a subset of similar products whose luxury is marked by higher machinery and equipment, solid manufacture, stylish outer shell, increased stability, better performance, advanced features, and so on. As such, these luxury goods may preserve or improve the basic functionality for which all items of a given grouping are in the beginning designed.

There are also goods that are perceived as luxurious by the free simply because they have fun a role of category symbols as such goods lean to suggest the purchasing power of those who get your hands on them. These items, while not essentially being better in quality, performance, or appearance than their less exclusive substitute, are purchased with the main principle of displaying assets and capitals or income of their owners. These kinds of goods are the objects of a socio-economic phenomenon called conspicuous consumption and frequently include luxury vehicles, watches, jewelry, designer clothing, yachts, as well as large residences, urban mansions, and country houses. Also see positional good. Many other services also folks bring into lavish lives, like traveling. Tourist enjoy to play via journey source .we can put example like Burlington airport limo and others like this. The three overriding trends in the global luxury goods market are globalization, consolidation, and diversification. Globalization is a result of the increased accessibility of these goods, additional luxury brands, and an augment in tourism. Consolidation occupies the growth of big companies and ownership of brands and markets across many piece of luxury products and foods etc.

A speech I wrote concerning cellphones.

In our society, it is hard to imagine what life was like before cell phones. Almost everyone you know today has a cell phone! You see them in stores, in parks, at sports games; drivers are always talking on them, and even at work! So should children have cell phones at school? Yes, why NOT.

Some people think that phones have no place in schools, but banning cell phones in school would be like going back in time to a less convenient and less safe time. It seems a little ridiculous for children at school to have cell phones, but at the end of the day, this is a safety tool for kids and provides peace of mind to parents everywhere.

In a world, where unfortunately, we constantly hear about school violence, the cell phone provides an instant connection, not only to parents, but to authorities. If a student were to pull a gun at a school that banned cell phones, help would likely take longer to reach the school. Additionally, a lot of parents panic when something like that happens and cell phones provide instant connections to their children. This helps things run more smoothly in case of emergencies. If parents don’t have direct and immediate communication with their children in the case of an emergency, they are more likely to drive to the school which could cause confusion, possibly put them in danger and could even delay ambulances and police cars to reach the school.

In fact, a lot of schools are using the rise in cell phone use to their advantage. In the face of recent school shootings in America, many schools have developed an emergency text messaging system. The idea is to get the word out to all the students quickly and effectively in the event of an emergency like that. They could get the school mobilized and away from the buildings or classrooms that are in immediate danger.

A lot of people dwell on the small problems that come with children having cell phones in school, like using texting to cheat or children playing games on their phone instead of paying attention to the class. But children don’t need technology to cheat and to be distracted. If a child is going to cheat, they’ll find a way to do it even without cell phones; the way people cheated back in the day when cell phones weren’t around. Similarly, not having cell phones to distract them from class does not mean they will pay attention. They’ll just find another way to be distracted. And as a teacher, if you’re adamant about cell phone use, you can impose no cell phone rules for your classroom. You can usually tell when a student is doing something they’re not supposed to be doing and if that bothers you, you can discipline them.

Cell phones provide the ultimate convenience. You can arrange where to pick up your children or give them an easy way to communicate to you that they’re going home with a friend or to the mall after school. It’s a way for parents to easily keep track of their children. All the reasons not to allow cell phone use in school seem petty and are dwarfed by all the reasons why it’s beneficial.

The ones with the biggest impact.

The most important technologies in my life, upon reflection, are:

1. the internet

2. modern agriculture

3. the automobile

I do have several values that conflict with these technologies. The conflicts that I can most easily identify all relate to the internet. The internet, although it allows for great strides in productivity in many cases, a value I correspond with, is also a personal source of sloth. It is easy to get on youtube or a multiplayer online game, for example, and waste hours of any given day. This lost time spent in passive enjoyment conflicts directly with my desire to be productive. I want to be able to spend my time completing challenging, existentially satisfying work that builds my value as a person and allows me to reach my goals and leave a personal legacy in what I have done. The internet therefore enables me to give in to the vice of sloth, draining me of my productive potential and creating a value conflict. Additionally, the internet has dehumanized a great deal of social interaction. Many activities that formerly required face-to-face interaction are now accomplished by filling out online forms. This contrasts directly with my highly prioritized value of human interaction. I believe that our creative capacity as humans gives us one of the greatest true sources of value in the world, and that to gain personal value, meaningful interactions with other individuals should be encouraged. The internet has allowed us to deprive ourselves of such interactions- however, over time, this may change. As online video calls and other forms of online media that allow full and expressive remote communication grow in application, the internet will allow a greater amount of fulfilling social interaction.

Modern agriculture only raises slight value conflicts for me. As a system, it has fundamentally alienated most people from the very food they consume. It has done this by completely separating the consumer from the sources of production, such that they often never interact. I do not know exactly where the food I eat on a daily basis comes from, and I do not have any grounds to feel a valuable connection to it. Former, closer to home agriculture may have given people a greater intrinsic link to the food they consume, allowing them a greater source of emotional fulfillment. However, I do recognize the fact that modern urbanization has created a need for such a system. Ultimately, the value trade-off between the need to feed the masses and the desire to know the source of one’s food will lean toward a highly distributed system such as the one we have in place today.

The car is very important to me, in that it is a very effective means of transportation. It corresponds with my value of independence- with a car, I can go anywhere I want, dependent upon no other person, in a short amount of time. Additionally, I have been able to foster my independence by gaining the mechanical skills and knowledge to perform my own automotive maintenance. However, in other regards, the car conflicts with the very same value. I have become dependent on the automobile, and would not be able to perform the same without it. I would not be able to transport myself or enjoy products that would otherwise be difficult to deliver. Furthermore, as globalization of manufacturing has increased, I have become more and more dependent upon a wider and wider number of people to manufacture parts for my automobile.
