I think it is unnecessary to say that this happened to me. Being told I am going to die by an anonymous, sadistic and barbarous stranger makes me want to rip myself to shreds. Annoying? Probably the most annoying and frightening thing in the world thing in the world. But who made this ridiculous theory, a theory obsessed with putting an end to all the wonderous, magical and fascinating things mankind has created? The answer is scientists, the Einstein’s of society. Scientists analysed the Mayan Calendar which coincidentally ends on the 21st of December 2012, therefore they thought that the world is going to end on that fateful day .The Mayans lived thousands of years ago, they were geniuses, they were fanatics about time keeping so they made a calendar compromising of over 25,000 days, the calendar, as said before, ends on the 21st of December 2012.

 Why? Why does the calendar end in 2012? The real reason for the calendar ending on that specific day is that whilst observing time the Mayans realised that the calendar repeats itself every 26,000 years therefore there was no need for them to continue writing the calendar, which I presume was very, very big. Scientists misinterpreted this information and thought the world is going to end in 2012; however they do not only use the Calendar as their evidence. Nostradamus a famous seer who lived in the 1500’s also predicted the death of the world; however he also predicted that the world would end in 2000 and 1975, as far as I can tell the world hasn’t ended. Nostradamus, more like Nostradumus. Moreover,crazy fans of 2012 say that a strange, mysterious planet named ‘Planet X’ is going to collide into Earth on 21st of December 2012,however there is not a shred of scientific evidence to prove this.  

In addition, even if doomsday was real why would it need to be advertised so much, there can only be one logical reason. Money. The companies who advertise 2012 earn immense sums of money. For instance 2012 the movie made a $166 million dollar profit, enough to buy the world’s most expensive car a 100 times. A movie about millions of people being crushed, drowned and left to die.  A profit made solely by scaring, torturing and giving people nightmares. Only a cruel, soulless, monster could do this There was an increase of 7% in the number of heart attacks, following the release of the movie.

But why do I find this annoying? Well, even if the world was going to end in the near future I would not want to be told of the prospect. Who would? But the thing that annoys me the most about 2012 is that it is advertised everywhere, from blockbuster movies to dark, dingy alleyways. While shopping last week I saw a mug with a picture of a cracked, rage-filled earth with lava oozing from pores on it’s surface like blood, devouring rotting, maggot-infested human bodies and above the picture of our morphed planet it said’2012: End of the world’, why on earth would anyone buy a mug that symbolises your supposed death? Utter madness!

In conclusion, 2012 is a myth and a misconception; furthermore it is now a resource to make money ,by egocentric people who know for a fact that 2012 is counterfeit. Because of all these false predictions I would not be surprised if riots and other chaotic acts take place on the 21st of December 2012, this would be disastrous: citizens thinking that if the world is going to end why not destroy it themselves.  It is a fact that there will always be a prediction about the end of the world, but until the day comes no one will know for sure. As a result of all this fevered madness I do not think many people will be disappointed when 2012 comes and goes.

NASA experts say the asteroid diameter is about 400 meters, and a heavenly body such dimensions see once every 30 years.

Go then added other small modifications, so have a precision of time on seasons and timetables so that the year was always counted accurately.

While the pole shift is under way, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. It takes just a mere second to think about our future. Just to think what would be of humanity in the future makes anyone shiver. The future as we all know it is the most unknown, because we don´t know what will the outcomes be and we do not know what is going to happen.

It would be really nice to predict our future, would we be rich? Will we have a better economy? Will things get better or worse? All these questions are truly never answered, ah! If the tarot rearing was really true or if the fortune cookies were not just lies to make anyone smile and gamble the first number that the cookie told them to. No one knows…

As for now we have read a whole lot about the 2012 and end of days, what it is and what will happen. Many are skeptical to the outcomes and many believe it will truly happen.

If we go back in time and read some of the most “Sacred” books, we will find loads of passages that speak about the end of the world, and this is not only one religion, but many. No just Christianity speaks of the Apocalypse, but other non Christian religious groups also.

So the question here is, are we afraid of the future? Take aside all the things we all read daily on the newspaper, those are facts that go on everyday in our lives, someone got stabbed, or someone got murdered. We all know that such terrible things like this happen everyday and there is nothing we can really do to stop these from happening. But, disregarding that, what about mother nature? Are we concerned about Tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes?

Natural disasters are becoming more and more known around the globe than 50 years ago, sure things like these happen, but did these things happen in such a way? Perhaps, only perhaps.

Now we blame it in global warming, but is it really global warming? Or could our ancestors be right and we are all approaching this day?

The truth is that we will have such an extraordinary planetary alignment in 2012, but no one knows for sure what will happen, no one knows for sure what our future will be, sure thing no fortune cookie will tell us to hide that day. So why should we be afraid of the future?
