Self-discipline is a habit that we do the cycle over and over - again and continue on an ongoing basis so that it becomes a regular thing we do. Self-discipline in doing an act that performed consistently and continuously will even become a habit that leads to the achievement of excellence. Excellence make us have an advantage that we can use to achieve the purpose of life that determines our future.

A. Is it self-discipline?

According to the Indonesian general dictionary, Discipline means to train the mind and character so that his actions comply with the order. Self-discipline means training yourself to do things orderly and regular ongoing basis to achieve your dreams and goals to be achieved in life.

B. Why do we need discipline?

Self-discipline will feel the benefits if we have a dream and ideals – ideals to be achieved. We have to discipline (train) yourself to do things – things that in accordance with the objectives to be achieved. Therefore, in this world made the rules – rules with punishment. This is not that every man will learn to live disciplined and obey the existing rules so that the world is chaotic and one can not take its own course.

C. Why is it difficult to discipline?

Habits that we do will determine our future. A good habit will result in something good, vice versa, but to get good habits is not easy. Why is that?

Humans have properties – such fundamental properties: tend to laze around, want to live casually followed his heart and desire to break the rules – the rules.

We always assume a job as an expense any obligation to do, not as a pleasure. Proverb says “we will exercise self-discipline is easier if we love what we do”.

Humans tend to get bored doing the same if in the long term.

Tips to live by discipline, by the way:

Defeat yourself.

Perform occasional interludes of activities outside the routine.

Focus your mind on the ultimate goal to be achieved.

Tips to improve self-discipline, by the way:

Set goals or targets to be achieved in the near future.

Create a priority order of things – things we want to do.

Make a written schedule of activities.

Perform activities in accordance with the schedule that we make, but not too stiff.

Dsiplin try to always schedule the program of activities which we have compiled its own.

Finally, after we all got this material is expected to apply in daily life to what our goals can be achieved. One important thing, before we do something in advance and stick with goals or targets are not put off until the situation perfectly.

Because we have indirectly put it in the subconscious. And automatically every action we do in harmony with what we have stored it. “Not only what you see is what you get, but also what you think is what you get”. Then do continue with the discipline so that we get what we want.

Should we be victims of circumstance, that we be blinded by Technology? Guess what! We have to take care when choosing evolving Technologies, or else we risk being slaves of Technology.

The era of human to human slavery is diminishing as time goes by, people being more humane and education has created a positive impact to end this form of slavery where men, women and children were abducted and subjected under hostile conditions unimaginable to man. Nowadays however, we are facing another kind of slavery.

First, we have to admit defeat in time management. This has made it impossible for us to concentrate on ourselves, trying to do things in a relaxed manner is something we long forgot as we pursue what we have to do on schedule, making time so important than our lives. Although it is not good to postpone something till ‘sometime’, but its so wise to let our minds relax after working for long hours.

This being time for technology- the Internet being the driver of our lives, we have forgotten to shape up into reality, running for virtual world for answers instead of doing it offline.. where answers can be readily available. In his case, we have lost trust in ourselves and people who are close to us, hence going for anonymous mode online.

If you have ever noticed, as time goes by, the world becomes smaller- technologically, people becomes so distant from one another and more independent. In so doing, marginalized communities carry the load of changing world as slaves of time, whose destiny is beyond horizons.

Time is coming when our children will be taken care of by machines, educating them as software in an electronic gadget and feeding them with mechanical ideas. By then, it will be too late for us to change the course of technological slavery.

Lastly, we have to come into our senses. We have our mind to control ourselves before sinking deeper into this abyss, also known as technological time slavery.

However, everyone has the same 24 hours every day to get things done, so keep that in mind if you have the habit of thinking that your situation is different from anyone else's.

Whether you have a business that is based out of your home, or if you want to maximize your efforts at your job, there are 3 basic concepts that will ensure your success.

By learning about and embracing these 3 simple – and free – success techniques you will not only increase your productivity, but you will maintain your sanity as well!

Scheduling

Yes, you are busy. Everyone is busy these days. From stay at home parents who raise children full-time, all the way up through CEO’s of billion-dollar companies, everyone is busy. However, everyone has the same 24 hours every day to get things done, so keep that in mind if you have the habit of thinking that your situation is different from anyone else’s.

When it comes to scheduling all of the things that are on your daily or weekly to-do list, writing down the master list of things that you want to accomplish is the absolutely mission-critical first step.

The reason why writing down everything on your to-do list is so important is because until you write it down, you probably don’t have a true grasp over just how many things you are trying to do every day!

Write down every single thing that you do that takes even 5 minutes of your time. Your list could include – but will hardly be limited to – things such as:

Personal – Sleep schedule, taking breaks, practicing personal hygiene, eating, talking on the phone, dealing with children, spending time with your family, running errands, surfing the Internet, exercising, etc.

Professional – Daily and weekly work tasks, answering email, product development, marketing, research, taking care of your website, tending to customer service, going to meetings, travel time, dealing with other employees, etc.

Once you have your list of things that you need to get done every day or every week, then you need take a REALISTIC look at how much time you have to dedicate to each of those activities.

Realism

It is critical that you write down how much time you actually spend on each of your tasks. Don’t set yourself up for failure by underestimating how time much you truly spend on the things that you do regularly.

For example, if you actually spend 4 hours per day reading and replying to email, but you find that number shocking, don’t schedule only 2 hours per day to work on email.

If your travel time is 60 minutes of actual driving, but then also includes a 30-minute window in the morning and again in the evening during which you get back and forth to your car, start up or shut down your work area, chit-chat with other employees, etc., then you have to include that in your schedule.

Being realistic about the many things that take up time everyday is the hardest part for most people. We find it difficult to believe that out of an 8 or 10-hour work day, that so much of that time is spent NOT working, so we tend to mentally block out the things that are not productive.

Here is the thing to remember, though: Whether you are being productive or not, the clock is still ticking. You might be amazed at how much time you spend each day NOT accomplishing the tasks that are in front of you.

Perseverance

Scheduling your time and being realistic about how long it takes to get things done is only the beginning. Realizing that you have many things to do every day and that you could clean up your productivity habits is simply not enough to effect change.

You have to consistently “stick to your guns” and follow through on whatever plans you come up with in order to increase your productivity.

If you are going to leave your house 30 minutes earlier in order to beat the traffic rush, only doing so occasionally is not going to net you any serious amount of additional time over the long-term.

Avoiding chatty co-workers in the break room one day, but carrying on a 20-minute conversation with them the next day is only going to serve to cancel out your efforts.

At home, avoiding the home-based distractions every Monday and Tuesday, but then slacking on your resolve to be more productive by the end of the week will not allow you the cumulative benefits of your efforts.

Regardless of what systems that you put in place in order to increase your productivity, follow the 3 basic rules that were just mentioned, and you will achieve long-term success:

Schedule your time, be realistic about what you have to do each day and how long it takes, and stick to a good plan of action to start increasing your productivity. Not only will these habits increase your productivity, but they will also increase your success in life!

For some Christmas is a joyous festive time yet for others it is filled with stress, money worries and anxiety. It is essential to utilize good planning and time management skills in order to be well prepared, organized and on budget for the festive season. So to ensure you don’t get your tinsel in a knot, here are my top tips for a stress free Christmas.

Get yourself an exercise book and a diary. On the outside of the exercise book write ‘Christmas Planner’ then head up separate pages with the following headings:
1. What I need to do
2. What I need to buy
3. Who I need to visit
4. What I am grateful for

Now you can start planning your ‘What I need to do’ list:
1. Write ‘Make a Christmas card list’ on this page. Write a date into your diary allocated to writing your list of names and addresses to send cards to. Add Christmas cards to your page ‘What I need to buy’ and leave a blank space to write the number you require (to be added after you have written your list). In your diary mark another day for posting them. As an option you may want to consider a family Christmas portrait to make personalized Christmas cards. You might also like to add a personalized Christmas letter: type up a summary of the years events and highlights with festive wishes to go in your Christmas card to add a more personal touch by sharing events over the year.

2. Write out a gift list with a budget for each person. Then think about each person and what they love to do and what their interests are. This will give you gift ideas for jotting down next to their name. Remember to keep gift ideas within your budget. When you spend time being relevant and thoughtful your gift is more likely to be cherished than giving them something that may end up in their re-gifting basket for the following year. If you need ideas, Google is a good tool to use for research. Then go over your list and cross off items until only one gift is left next to each name. Diarize to do all gift shopping on one allocated day. Without a list when shopping you can get distracted and a one hour shopping trip could turn into a 3-5 hour credit card frenzy that you cannot afford. When you focus only on what’s on your list, you will stay on track, achieve what needs to be done with less effort and complete it faster, saving you time, energy, money and stress. You could also consider purchasing gifts that make a difference and mean more such as purchasing from World Vision or Oxfam on line.

3. If you are hosting a Christmas dinner or party you will need to write out a list of who to invite and allocate a day in your diary to write and send out invitations. Next decide what you will be serving. You may want to allocate some time to go through your Christmas recipe books if you want to vary your dishes each year. It can be fun to try different festive foods and themes from other countries and traditions. Next work out the number of people expected and write a list of food and drinks to purchase. Allocate a day in your diary close to the function to purchase the food and any special themed decorative items required. Allocate another day in your diary to pre-decorate your room or house in your chosen festive theme.

Remember to cross off each item in your Christmas Planner as you complete it. A good habit is to reward yourself immediately after each task has been done. Write into your diary a small reward for each task completed. It could be a cup of your favorite herbal tea, half an hour listening to your favorite music uninterrupted, a bubble bath, or a walk in the park. Remember that things that get rewarded get done! It’s a secret motivational and management tool that gets things accomplished!

4. Next think about who you want to visit over the holiday season. It’s a great time to visit friends you haven’t seen in a while as well as extended family. You may also like to include time to visit a local nursing home, hospital or a community group to volunteer and help out. This is a great way to give in the spirit of the season. To give without expectation of anything in return. We all can make a difference by reaching out and helping out.

5. It’s important to spend time in gratitude each day. Gratitude will help you to stay focused on the important things in life and bring you each day back to a place of serenity, peace and joy. Diarize for each day of the festive season to write a gratitude list (either first thing in the morning or before bed). If you find this difficult, start with the most simplest of things to be grateful for eg for the bed you sleep in, the food in your fridge, the festive music abound, the good intentions of the season etc.

Lastly, don’t forget to exercise. Diarize at least 3 times a week for exercise. Exercise will help you to think clearer and feel good. You’ll be in better spirits and better able to handle the jolly season with all its extra demands. So by getting organized by utilizing some easy planning tools you should be jolly by golly this festive season!

The truth is what sets you free; yet, when you plan you find the freedom to survive happier. Planning gives us power. The plans we make liberate us and lift our values and quality of living. When a person plans it, greaten their outlooks on life. As you plan you, start to use your creative mind.

The creative mind helps you to vision your future as you draw from your energies, passions, wants, etc. It leads you to excitement, or feeling joyful over your future. When you plan you, reduce tension. Instead of spending each day sweating tomorrow, you learn how to live one day. Each day you have your seconds, minutes, hours, and day planned, so that you are working toward completing what you have planned for that day. Once you accomplish your daily goals, you relax knowing that you achieved your mission. The next day comes and you follow your plan chart for this day only.

You live well when you set plans. When you set plans, you know that you have the ability to change those plans as you choose. You realize that you have flexibility with your plans. For instance, if you see something in your plans that do not lead up to your short and long-term goals, you can change those plans at leisure. This is part of using your creative mind, especially when you see areas that do not lead toward your goals.

You have freedom when making plans, since you have the option to achieve your goals. When your plans include your short-term and long-term goals, and you accomplish these goals one-step at a time, you can look back to visualize your freedom and achievements.

One thing I noticed about setting goals is that often you achieve goals that you did not plan. Ironically, as you work toward your goals, it seems that other good things come your way. Look for the rewards as you start to achieve your goals.

When you set plans, you have opportunities and chances of achieving your goals. Chance, opportunities and efficiency often make a person feel good about self. This is a part of improving your personal life. When you set plans, it is best to work in logical steps to reach your goals. By doing so you make the load lighter and the road less traveled.

When a person plans, he or she is not constantly making decisions. This frees up the mind from chaos, or stress. You set your time wisely for choosing as you draw up schedules to manage your time. For this reason, you have leisure time. This means you can sit on your free time drawing visual images in your mind as you choose.

When a person plans that, have the option of adjusting their plans. When you see that something is not to your likings in your goals and plans, you can adjust them as you choose. You want to use your mental images and voices to help you adjust plans, just as you did when you first wrote your plan.

Mental images will help you to see into your future. Remember though to live for today and not tomorrow. Only use those images to set the pathway to success by writing your goals. After you finish writing your plans, time management, goals, etc, you can work toward scheduling your strategies.

Strategy planning should include errand time, fun time, goal time, study time, work time, family time, flexibility, and so on. You should also consider the unplanned as you outline your strategies that lead you to improve your personal life as you reach your goals.

Speed reading explained.

1. What is the objective of reading?

This may sound obvious but the lack of a clear objective is of itself a reading difficulty; it may be, to acquire information, reach a decision and retain something. Now everyone is under pressure to absorb more information, more quickly. This course will help you do that.

2. Common problems associated with reading

In order to read faster it is worth nothing what slows us down. Common issues highlighted on training programmes are:

i) Lack of time – reading under pressure

ii) Volume – too much to read

iii) Importance – consequences and implications lead us to read slowly

iv) Discrimination – knowing what information to value and what to discard

v) Presentation – poor/difficult appearance

vi) Organisation – verbosity or poorly organised ideas

vii) Interpretation – differentiating between fact, fiction and interpretation

viii) Limitations – physical and intellectual capacity for concentration and interpretation

ix) Environment – poor reading environment = too cold/hot, noisy, etc

x) Motivation – not interested or excited by subject matter

xi) Training – a lack of knowledge and practise in reading techniques

The last of these can help overcome all of the other difficulties

3. The educational legacy

To add to this list of difficulties, our educational background can be limiting. Most people were taught to read using the look/say or phonetic methods. This may have been appropriate for childhood but can hold us back when we want to move on and speed up because it is hard to stop sub-vocalising. Here are some ways of reading more quickly.

4. Short cuts

i) Always have a reading objective

Read with a purpose and you will learn and remember more

ii) Have a time limit

Get into the discipline of working quickly

iii) Pre-read and re-read

Read a text more than once

iv) Make notes

Make brief notes as you go

v) Scan

Look quickly for headings, summaries, bullet points etc

vi) Sentence sample

Read first sentences of each paragraph only

vii) A little and often

Read for short spells – maximum 20 – 30 mins.

vii) Review

Review previous reading to reinforce

ix) Conceptual reading

Look for themes, get the big picture then look for detail

x) Interactive reading

Interact with the text, be aware of what you do and do not understand. Ask questions.

These techniques combined will make your reading much more efficient and constructive. However, to move to the next stage in increasing speed whilst retaining comprehension you will need to understand the mechanics of reading and speed reading techniques.

5. The mechanics of reading

When we read, the following events take place -

i) Image transfer from page to eye

ii) Transfer of information from retina to visual cortex

iii) Recognition, comprehension of words

iv) Intra-integration – sticking the words together to make meaningful combinations

v) Extra-integration – combining the new information with our existing knowledge to form a new understanding

Two other important points need to be noted in understanding how we read:

Firstly, like a camera, our eye only takes pictures when it is still. So although we have the illusion of movement, reading is made up of a series of freeze frames involving what are called movements and fixations. Secondly, most people tend to hear or even mouth the words as they read them. This is call sub vocalisation and hinders our reading speed. For, whilst ever we a sub-vocalising, our reading can only be at the speed of speech.

6. Advanced reading techniques

In order to read significantly faster, we need to adopt a different approach. This may seem alien but most people already use such a style when skimming through magazines or newspapers.

i) Rapid scan

Scan over a page every 3 to 5 seconds. Don’t worry about what you are taking in, just relax and allow your subconscious to take over.

ii) Use a guide

Use your fingers or a piece of card to guide your eyes like the camera steadied by the tripod

iii) Read words in blocks

Instead of reading one word at a time, read two or three. This is called widening your visual span

iv) Reduce sub-vocalisation

Try to stop hearing the words. Block reading, will help as will reading so quickly you can not say the words. At first, you will worry that you are not taking anything in but with practice become more confident

v) Use accelerated reading

Get used to reading text quicker than feels comfortable then slow down to a comfortable speed (this will then be quicker)

vi) Multiple read

Instead of reading cautiously once, read a number of times quickly

vii) Use whole brain thinking

Don’t be limited to the logical hemisphere of your brain but integrate creativity, imagination and lateral conceptual thinking

viii) Remember you still need to be organised

You still need to have an objective and take notes – use mind mapping and/or – 5 W, H – who, where, what, when, why and how

xi) Be perspicacious

Work at it; excellence takes time

x) Good luck!

Doing my best to live the "American Dream" in a downed economy.

Hey there! I know that I am not alone in this world, and that my situation is not unique. I have always strived to provide for my family and give them the things that I feel that we deserve. Not just the material things but also time, time is a huge part of being there and supporting your family. Yes, i know we need to financially support our families and we need to be able to pay bills. That is not something that even has to be written! I know that we are all feeling the pressure of late payments from credit cards, car payments, insurance, mortgage, doctor bills, loans or all sorts. It seems that in this downed economy the only thing we have control over is our time.

I have made a commitment to my family to be here as much as possible. My goals for the year 2012 are to be able to enroll my 7year old son in to Karate, MMA, Piano Lessons, Cub Scouts, or even sports camps. Whatever he is interested in I want to be here and be part of it. I know, I know, those take money! Again, were back to the money thing. Let’s leave that dog alone for now and we can address that ugly beast down the road. My focus today is TIME management. I have some very lofty financial goals to achieve and the other day my wife said, if we had all the money in the world but no time to spend it then what good is it!? Wow, what a great point! It is so true. The whole reason that I want to make more money is so that I have the freedom to spend TIME with my family. It is crazy that they are so closely intermingled. Time and money, money and time, they go together like oil and water! The old say “Time is Money” is a misnomer really. It is more like, “Time costs money”. So how does one without the money to buy the time, manage to get the time?

This is the beginning of my journey and I hope it is a successful one. I will find the balance and learn how to have better time management with the time I already have!

Article about the satisfaction of oneself.

Everyday is like a program that starts by the time you woke up and ends when you sleep. Everyday has a goal to accomplish go to work, doing household chores, washing clothes, etc. Then the next day same things happen. If you are not aware maybe you’ll grow old doing the same routine each day. In this view we can be satisfied after finishing the small task and we can say that I am done and tomorrow is just another day to do the same again and again. But looking into bigger pieces like your life when can you say that you are done? Knowing that we have only one life what are the things you would like to do? Knowing that your days is decreasing what else you need to do? A lot of questions isn’t it? By the time you reading this, are you done with your task in your life?

What am I trying to say here is try to make meaning of your life. We have no full control how long our life gonna be but we have full control what to do during our existence. I think this is the very time to do what you would like to do for tomorrow we really do not know. Are you satisfied with what you did if you are going to stop soon? Maybe not. So make interesting things everyday in your family, your colleagues and everyone who you’ll meet. For someday you’ll be remembered as a great man in your own way. Good luck and start spreading good will virus.

Sam & Lisa fell into the housing trap and had refinanced their home a few times and still had a 25-year mortgage, some credit card debt, and now some unanticipated start-up costs for the consulting business. Through a money coaching process, they were able to redefine their life based on meaningful goals and heart-values, and create a plan to reshape their retirement based on the reality of their situation. In order for them to achieve these new goals however, they had to become disciplined and consistent.

Here are the steps they had to take:

Step 1: Clearly define your five year goals

Start with a clear picture of what you want. A 5-year picture is best, as longer than that will be hard to see how it can happen, and shorter becomes more about tasks and less about planning for the future. Being clear about what you want, will allow you to create a meaningful, happy life. If you define your life based on what other people want for you, you’ll end up regretting your choices or being unhappy.

Step 2: Create short-term targets

Once you have a 5-year picture, break it into short-term targets. Start with one year from now, then break your targets into 90 day mini-targets. Include all areas of your life that need to be adjusted, not just your money. Set targets with your money with savings, debt, income, spending; but also set targets in your career, relationships, living situation, leisure, health, etc. You have to focus on each area simultaneously in order to develop that 5-year picture and stay in balance.

Step 3: Work a weekly task list

With your 90 day targets, the best way to stay on track is to have a plan that encourages you to take action right now, today, and stick with it. Start by committing to a weekly time for your planning (I like Monday mornings at 9:00am). On a piece of paper, write your 90-day targets on the left side, and on the right list the next steps that you need to take. No, don’t write everything you need to do, only right the next steps. The steps you need to complete this week. This is really important and will keep you from getting overwhelmed.

Step 4: Honestly assess yourself

During your weekly planning time, honestly assess your progress. Ask yourself, “Why didn’t I complete that task?” Often you may find yourself repeatedly skipping over a particular task or two. You must take the time to find out why. A common reason for procrastinating is that the task is too big. For example, if your task was to put $50/week into a retirement account, and you haven’t done that yet, perhaps there are smaller steps you need to do first. Perhaps the next step is to research various types of accounts. Then once that’s complete, the next step might be to determine which type of account you will use. Then research how to open the account. Then set up automatic payments. You see? Breaking it down into smaller parts will help you actually take action instead of procrastinating.

Step 5: Don’t quit

This is probably the hardest step. Don’t quit. When you get frustrated, overwhelmed, or too busy, it is easy to forge your tasks or to just plain give up. But don’t. If this starts to happen create a reminder system that gets you back to your weekly planning time. Even if you’ve skipped a few, just pick up where you left off and get back on track. When you’re trying to make changes in your life, you will run into hard spots, resistance, confusion or even anger. But don’t let these get you off track. They are normal ‘bumps in the road’ and learning to work through them is the only way you’ll actually complete your goals.

Each Monday at noon, Sam and I sit down and discuss our finances. Our weekly meetings help us have meaningful discussions, work together as a team, stay accountable, and put structure in place so we can stop stressing about money and enjoy our new retirement. (Lisa T.)

In order to achieve your goals, you must stay on track on a weekly basis. These five steps will help you build a structure to gain the discipline needed to actually achieve those goals, not just dream about them.

We all know that time is the currency of life and there is no way to earn it once it is spent. So it is better to spend it wisely.

Time is the currency of life. There is a saying that time and tide waits for none and i totally believe in that saying. People always complain that they don’t have enough time to complete their tasks and they are not getting the desired success in their profession but actually they are lying to them self.

A day is made up of 24 hours and this 24 hours is not only for me sitting in the India but also for those sitting in America,Germany,Australia and all other countries. I mean we all have equal amount of time but some people use it very wisely and make their day productive and get big success in their life but some people never realize the importance of time and waste it in useless activity.

Time is not wasted in hours but actually the time is actually wasted in minutes and seconds and basically thinking on how to make good use of time. we all want to make good use of our time and read lots of articles etc to learn the concept of using our time efficiently but we don’t adopt any of the concept in our life.

It is better for us to divide our tasks in different categories so that we can know what is important ,what is unimportant, what is urgent and what is not urgent. We should work in the below mentioned order to make our day more productive

More urgent work>>more important work>>More urgent work>>>less urgent work.

There are certain things which are involved in our life removal of which can give us many productive hours.

(1)Lessen the television watching-let us consider that you only spend 2 hours per day in watching television which means 730 hours per year.If you lessen watching television just by one hour then you will get 365 more working hours which means more than 45 official working days. If you are just earning $1 per day then you can earn about extra $45 which is actually taken by your television.

(2)Don’t waste time in checking mails every 5 minutes.-it is better to check your mails at twice a day and respond to them at that time.

(3)don’t multitask-Don’t multitask as multitasking lessen your concentration from your work and make it more difficult and poor in quality.

have a nice day.: -)
