The Tonga, first encountered by the English explorer Livingstone 140 years ago, live in the Zambezi Valley. Displaced from along the Zambezi River by the construction of Kariba Dam in 1955, they have since been marginalized in Zimbabwe’s economy, political, and social life by successive governments.
