Traffic enforcers can be depended on to pick people up who drive under the influence. There is nothing dependable about drunk drivers, though, so apprehending officers confront a variety of circumstances and personalities, even startling behavioral changes, with DUI cases alone. Officers who enforce traffic laws have to be ready for anything. And, sometimes, picking up drunk drivers literally entails some weightlifting.

Courtesy of lawyer Monica Risam Nicklin

On the Saturday of November 19, 18-year-old Olivia Ornelas of Aurora, Illinois, was picked up by police. They hauled her, or so we might presume, out of the ditch she fell into when she spun her car off the road just after midnight near Route 71 and East High Point.

She confessed to apprehending officers that she was furious with her boyfriend for not taking her to see the new “Twilight” movie, as he had allegedly promised to, and her response, quite naturally, was to drink and drive. Police say she had been driving minus her right front tire, and, apparently, minus a few figurative nuts and bolts, too. She was given a little more time to continue to brood about her “Twilight”-disliking boyfriend when she was booked for driving under the influence as well as for illegal consumption of liquor by a minor and hauled off by police again this time to jail.

Just two days earlier, on the evening of Thursday, November 17, police picked up 24-year-old Michelle Watson of Prescott, Arizona. They actually had to lift her off the ground and carry her bodily to the police vehicle when she resisted arrest.

Witnesses had reported her driving erratically, repeatedly going up and down on the curb, and driving on the sidewalk in her white Honda Civic. According to the police report, when officers first attempted to take Watson into custody, they encountered heavy resistance. They observed that her eyes were bloodshot and her pupils dilated. Her breath was also described as heavy with an intoxicating beverage. Watson cursed the officers, shoved one officer away, and when a second officer attempted to remove the purse she wore slung over her shoulder, she kneed him in the groin, sparking a scuffle. Watson was brought down to the ground and handcuffed. She then refused to get to her feet and had to be picked up and carried to the police vehicle. Once inside, she proceeded to kick at the interior, necessitating further restraint from the officers.

Watson was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault of a police officer, and resisting arrest. But at the station, her demeanor took a surprisingly agreeable turn. Gamely posing for mug shots, disheveled appearance notwithstanding, she smiled broadly, giving not just one but two thumbs up to the camera. Perhaps she managed to find some humor in her situation. But when she learned this includes spending a minimum of 45 days in jail, and paying more than 3,000 dollars in fines and other costs, she might not have found much to grin about, after all.

What would we do without India? India often gives more traffic to online writing sites than any other country. Delhi leads the way among the Indian regions.

Do you know that India plays an indispensable role in the fortunes of online writers? India accounts for the highest number of visits to Triond, the second highest amount of visits to Bukisa and Hubpages and the fourth most visits to Squidoo. This is remarkable since these writing sites advocate that online writers write in English. However, we have to remember that India is the second most populous country in the world. In all this Delhi stands at the top of the four lists as the city that accounts for the most Indian site visits. Let us examine the data for the four sites using Google Trends for Websites.

TRIOND

Google Trends for Websites only gives us the top four places in India that visit Triond. They are:

1. Delhi, India

2. Maharashtra, India

3. Tamil Nadu, India

BUKISA

Google Trends for Websites gives the top ten places in India that visit Bukisa. They are as follows:

1. Delhi, India (second most populous city in India).

2. Maharashtra, India (second most populous State or Union territory in India).

3. Uttar Pradesh, India (most populous State or Union territory in India).

4. Karnataka, India (ninth most populous State or Union territory in India).

5. Tamil Nadu, India (seventh most populous State or Union territory in India).

6. West Bengal, India (fourth most populous State or Union territory in India).

7. Punjab, India (fifteenth most populous State or Union territory in India).

8. Gujarat, India (tenth most populous State or Union territory in India).

9. Andhra Pradesh, India (fifth most populous State or Union territory in India).

10. Haryana, India (sixteenth most populous State or Union territory in India).

HUBPAGES

1. Delhi, India

2. Maharashtra, India

3. Karnataka, India

4. Tamil Nadu, India

5. Andhra Pradesh, India

6. Uttar Pradesh, India

7. West Bengal, India

8. Haryana, India

9. Kerala, India

10. Gujarat, India

SQUIDOO

1. Delhi, India

2. Maharashtra, India

3. Karnataka, India

4. Tamil Nadu, India

5. Uttar Pradesh, India

6. Andhra Pradesh, India

7. Gujarat, India

8. Haryana, India

9. West Bengal, India

10. Punjab, India

Some Observations

(a) Delhi is at the top of all four lists.

(b) Maharashtra is second on all of these lists.

(c) The last three lists of ten – Bukisa, Hubpages ansd Squidoo – are almost identical. If Google Trends for Websites had given a complete list it appears that that list would have been almost identical as well.

(d) After checking Google Trends for Websites their bar graphs shows that for Triond and Bukisa, Delhi accounts for twice as much traffic as its nearest competitor Maharashtra. For Hubpages and Squidoo, Maharashtra is very close behind Delhi but both regions give much more traffic than any of the rest.

(e) Population size of a country and its cities may or may not play a part in the number of site visits. Country-wise it does but state-wise it may or may not play a major part.

What should we conclude from all this as writers? The answer is obvious. Write with India in mind. Hats off to great Indian writers like vijayanths in Tamil Nadu, Uma Shankari in Karnataka, Anuraha Ramkumar and others.

Although high crime levels in Uganda have been tamed, thanks to the Rapid Response Force that sniffs out criminals from their hiding dens, never-the-less, petty theft and juvenile robberies at traffic lights during rush hours is becoming an emerging problem. The culprits who carry out robberies at traffic lights are mostly juveniles who live on the streets and thrive on petty theft and clever ways of robbing unsuspecting Kampalans. The recent removal of street vendors from the city centre by the Kampala City Council Authority has reduced congestions down town and many of the petty thieves do not seem to have the opportunity to easily pick-pocket. They now have resorted to taking advantage of traffic congestions at traffic lights during rush hours to do their thing. Below are some the techniques the traffic light robbers use;

Diversionary tactics on drivers

Firstly, they move in a small groups and pretend to be selling something. They besiege the car on both sides-while two are engaging the driver, the others take the advantage of the diverted attention to pick valuable items from the back seats of the car before making off with the valuables.

The threat of using filth on passengers and drivers

There are also reports that some of the juveniles, especially during evening rush hours, carry what they refer to as “human wastes” in Polythane bags and shove them menacingly at passengers and drivers through the windows of cars held up at a traffic congestion point with both physical and verbal threats of spilling the filth onto any passengers who will not drop some money into their collection bags. The idea of being drenched in human waste by a filthy looking street boy is very dreadful, so most passengers plead with the robbers for time to reach into their pockets and before long, many people will have parted with their hard earned money.

Pinching passengers with pliers and screw drivers

A good number of these juvenile traffic light robbers also move with some form of dangerous objects that they use to inflict bodily harm on their victims. For example, they carry pliers and screw drivers which they use to pinch the cheeks and fingers of passengers as they continue demanding for money from them. Any delays in delivering the money will see increased pressure on the cheeks of the victims as they continue to squeeze the pliers harder and harder. To save themselves from this pain, passengers immediately release money to these traffic light robbers.

Hitting cars and mugging concerned drivers

As darkness approaches, in the evenings, the other technique the Kampala traffic light juvenile robbers use to rob their victims is that they advance towards a stationary car in groups of two or three and bang the bonnet of the car with heavy metallic objects. Normally most drivers get concerned whenever they hear any knock on their cars so they immediately come out to assess the damage. As soon as the driver is out, he is immediately mugged and his pocked hastily picked.

Traffic in a suburban area that is growing.Everyone is rushing and not giving the pedestrians the right of way and the road rage is causing more stress.

I live in a suburban town in Virginia. It takes about 45 minutes to go to the city of Washington,DC.When we first moved here in 1975 there wasn’t even a traffic light out by the highway that was only two lanes in each direction, which has now grown to a six lane highway, plus some turning lanes also.In this very area where there used to not even be a traffic light the state is expanding the highway by another lane on each side of the road.

This is the traffic there yesterday afternoon which was a Sunday, about 2:30 PM

Many time when I have been walking and attempting to cross the street in the cross walk, with the light in my favor drivers come flying up and almost run me over because they want to make a “right on red” turn. Not all intersections have walkers light, but they are basically useless anyway…..the majority of the drivers ignore them and turn anyway while they are shaking their heads at the person trying to cross the street as to say that they were in the wrong.

Specifically yesterday when I was walking I was crossing an intersection, the light was red, therefore I had the right of way and there was no cars at the light and then a car comes flying up,cutting me off from continuing my walk across the street and was litterly about 1 foot from me and turned right at the traffic light and there was another vehicle directly behind him that did the same thing. At the next intersection the same thing happened, with only one car.

I continued walking and was crossing across the opening to a parking lot and a SUV appeared to want to make a right turn into the lot, however he was kind enough to obey the Virginia traffic law that stated that pedestrians have the right of way and he stopped and I continued walking.A man driving a mini van pulls up behind him in that lane when there was no other traffic on the road and violently begins to blow his horn at him and yell at him while he is shaking his fist at him. Then he wildly steers into the left lane and goes around him where he continued to drive straight down the street. On that particular road that driver would have had to get in the left lane anyway in about another 50 feet because the right line would end.

Many other times I have been both walking and driving and I cannot believe the stress going on out there, and this is just a suburb, not the city.Drivers are blowing their horns, yelling, shaking their fist and other hand signals at other drivers and pedestrians.Everyday that I am out I see at least three fender benders a day, because of a person travelling too closely to the vehicle in front of them.

People need to calm down, don’t be in such a hurry,be less stressed out.Be kinder out there to those other people, both drivers and pedestrians trying to get somewhere too.And remember the people in the car are covered from the elements such as cold, heat, rain and snow, the pedestrians aren’t.,

Are you a genetically predisposed to being a bad driver? Try that argument the next time you are stopped for speeding.

There is no shortage of reasons people give for doing something they shouldn’t be doing while driving. Got caught with your cell phone in your hand? Shot through an intersection when the light was red? Didn’t come to a complete stop at the red sign? Now, scientists may be coming to your rescue. California researchers say your problem isn’t bad driving it’s bad genes.

According to University of California neuroscientists, some people have a gene variation that makes them up to 20 percent more likely to be worse drivers than people without the variation. They say up to 30 percent of people in North America alone have the variant gene. The researchers say people with the gene variant make more errors and they are prone to forget more of what they’ve learned as time goes by.

Brain Stimulation Lacking

The researchers say the variant limits how much of a certain protein is available. The protein, BDNF, is what helps keep memory strong and helps support communication among brain cells and keeps them working, as they should. Among people who have the variation, a smaller portion of the brain gets stimulated when they perform a given task – such as driving a car.

To test their theory, the researchers had 29 people take a test. Seven people had the gene variation. All of the subject drove 15 laps in a driving simulator in which the track was programmed to have difficult curves and turns. The test was repeated four days later. The testing showed the drivers with the variant did worse on both of the tests.

So, the next time you are pulled over by a police officer for some traffic violation try explaining about your gene variation. Maybe you could take a copy of this article and have it ready the next time you are in a traffic tight spot. It might not work, but you’ll certainly give the police officer something to discuss with his/her colleagues back at the station.

There are more things than we know...

Can you imagine a drink squeezed out of carrot, beet-root and apple have powers to help you survive when you have almost given up?
I just did. I haven’t tried but am looking forward to trying it out.

It can cure cancer, deadly as it may sound. Ulcer and many more ailments like constipation, eye problems, blood pressure, kidney problems, muscle pain, menstrual problems etc.

Man in his prayers for the well-being of the world has been trying to solve some of the issues that most concern the minds on earth and health is one of them.

Umpteen number of times have we discussed health issues in magazines and electronic media and yoga-centres and religious institutions, yet we, at least some of us, have failed to attain that perfect health we all are looking forward to.

Why so???
We all know the turmoil man is going through. Man’s incessant urge to access prowess has made corruption ubiquitous. We sing songs of Michael Jackson (Heal the World) but prevent any kind of action taken on the same front.
However God shows us ways to never underestimate ourselves however dire the consequences may be to thrust us to desperation and loneliness.

The word LONELINESS without the ‘ L’ gives the word ONELINESS and this is exactly what our fellow preachers have been telling us.

The many and the least, the happening and the boredom, the serenity and the turmoil is all a current in the mind that prefers to keep us attached to the world. We belong, all of us, to this world. We cry when we feel the pain of people being trapped in a distant land, or caught in an earthquake, strike or a traffic jam, or has subjected themselves voluntarily to hellish life. We fear when they are attacked by hooligans or zombies or lose their limbs or loved ones in accidents. We rejoice when the victory team returns with laurels, or a scholar, or an unsung handicap is felicitated by the people long after their tiring services.

So what is it that keeps the world going?

So the calculation for ONELINESS = 15+14+5+12+9+14+5+19+19= 112%

Can we afford to give away our precious lives in taking our lives by allowing our attitude to take the wrong direction? Can we claim that we are highly insane for in a world gifted to us with love we find space small enough to accomodate all species?
Folks, the aliens are watching, communicating, helping and this is not unknown to many of us. Why wait for a Holocaust to happen to bring ourselves at the feet of those Highly Evolved Beings??

Remember we are powerful and our LOVE FOR GOD= 12+15+22+5+6+15+18+7+15+4= 119%

1+1+9= 11 which if taken in a broader sense is 1&1
God & Us
which in reality is ONE.

This is a warning to all drivers. Sometimes other drivers are emotionally frail and looking for a way to end their life.

Recently a man who just lost his job drove down the secondary highway near my home. At one point a large semi truck was headed towards him in the opposite lane, and suddenly the distressed man veered into the path of the truck at such a time the truck driver could not avoid hitting him. The truck driver lived, the other man died.

Although not officially called a suicide, it would appear to be such.

I imagine the suicidal man drove the road for a long time before spotting a semi truck. He very likely knew that this was the most likely target to kill himself but not kill the other driver, however there are really no guarantees. The suicidal man might have lived, perhaps in a coma for years, or stuck in a wheel chair, equally so the man behind the wheel of the semi truck could have been killed or injured, and what if there was a car behind him which would have also been involved in the accident?

In such suicide attempts there are no guarantees that you will die, or that somebody else may not suffer.

One of the factors police use to determine if such an event was a suicide (if no note was left), is by determining if the person was wearing a seat belt or if they had their airbag deactivated.

Typically when such accidents do occur they cannot be labeled as suicides unless a note is actually found. It is nearly impossible to determine if a driver simply fell asleep and drove into oncoming traffic or if this was in fact a suicide. As such a huge amount of guilt falls on the other driver.

When people do kill themselves by driving into oncoming traffic it must be noted that even when the other driver is uninjured they often suffer from post traumatic stress problems. They feel guilty, and may even be put through police checks while the cause of the accident remains undetermined. Then there is also consideration of everyone involved in arriving upon the accident scene and forced to clean it up.

Suicide is never pretty, but to use somebody else to meet ones own death is cruel.

This is written to remind drivers that others who share the road may be contemplating their own life, and to be aware of such. The best way to avoid a head on collision with such a driver is by steering into the ditch (pump the breaks to slow down and retain vehicle control) rather than to slam on the brakes, and if you see somebody driving in such a way that you think they are contemplating killing themselves to call the police right away with as much information on the vehicle as you can provide.

The eve of the mark of the end of Ramadan in UAE seem to be an exciting event. The streets of all seven emirates seem to be fully prepared to the celebration of the Eid. Are u prepared?

In the UAE, residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah gathered on Tuesday at the Grand Mussallah which is the known Eid grounds and several other designated mosques in all the 7 emirates to perform special Eid payers.

The prayers commemorated the commencement of a three-day festivity after the Ramadan. On the streets before prayers, there was human and vehicular traffic. Some people also gathered on main streets to pray.

Sounds of chanting Muslims prayer could be heard simultaneously from various mosques across emirates. Other observations were men dressed in traditional attires and greeting each other as they entered the mosque.

The streets of Abu Dhabi a lit with glowing lights blue, white etc. It seems so glamorous and exciting as kids were a bit more liberalised as they could received gifts from family and friends and show them off.

Malls and other centres in the town provided massive entertainment to people who were seen dancing, eating and shopping at the last minute hour.

Cinemas showed new movies which people queued to watch while scores of others gathered as various locations to watch performances either dance or music on the streets.

Easy border crossing has been made possible, allowing thousands to cross over through the Ghuwaifat border.

Some of the roads and streets that are to be found around the world are really quite astonishing in many ways.

http://www.visitingdc.com/san-francisco/lombard-street-picture.asp

Craziest bendy road on earth has to be this one, famous for the small section between Hyde and Leavenworth streets, so steep as to be too dangerous for most vehicles. Between 1922 and 1923 this was made into a much easier to navigate switchback of eight sharp bends, one-way only, going down, with a 5mph speed limit, on the quarter-mile red-brick paved section of riotous road.

http://www.inautonews.com/10-busiest-junctions-in-the-world

The broadest street on earth, putting all others into the shade, is 140 meters wide, has 14 lanes – 7 on each direction, as well as being flanked on either side by streets with four lanes extra each – and is named in honor of Argentina’s birth date. Roughly one kilometer in length, from the Río de la Plata waterfront in the north to Constitución station in the south, it is always chaotic, and needs.nerves of steel if one is to drive upon it.

http://www.swindonweb.com/index.asp?m=8&s=115&ss=289

Voted the 4th most frightening junction in the UK in 2009, built in 1972, this Swindon, UK roundabout, consisting of five mini-roundabouts in a circular arrangement, is actually far less intimidating than first appearance would suggest, and works incredibly well, even if confusing at first to the luckless motorist approaching it for the first time. Once understood, however, the feature is amazingly functional and actually designed to reduce overall congestion.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H6B_kxim_AU/TkLkt0-uGYI/AAAAAAAABI0/JfY5EGUOw-g/s1600/3934073552_c4dda42e01_z.jpg

Steepest, officially that is, street on earth is to be found in Dunedin, New Zealand, called Baldwin Street and 350 meters long, it starts with a moderate slope, climbing very steeply with a maximum slope of nineteen degrees or 1:2.86,so steep that the road surface needed to be made of concrete rather than asphalt, because hot weather could melt tar and see the road surface pouring itself down the hill

This incredible structure is one of the busiest and largest interchanges in the Shanghai road network, carrying thousands of vehicles hourly, across five levels of bridges, helping to connect two of the busiest highways within the area, and doing so with little disruption, to traffic.

The most impressive, and largest roundabout in the world is often not recognized as such by the people driving around it, because Putrajaya, close by where the Prime Minister of the country has his office, is 3.4km long, and houses three major landmarks, which comprise the Istana Melawati, royal retreat, the Petra Perdana, commemorative landmark as well as the Putrajaya Shangri-La Hotel within the great circle of the surrounding road

Credited by Guinness Book of Records as shortest street on earth, at 2.06 m Ebenezer Place, in Wick, Scotland, in 2006 beat the record earlier held by Elgin Street in Lancashire, having only one address, which believe it or not is just the front door of No. 1 Bistro, the street originating in 1883, when the hotel owner, was told to give a name to the shortest side of the building, and in 1887 officially declared a street.

It's quite easy to get thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of views a day from social sites like Facebook and Twitter, if you know what you're doing.

Social Traffic

Social promotion is perhaps the most important way you can drive visitors to your site, apart from being on the first page of a really popular Google search.

Google is good for getting targeted visitors, but if you don’t know a lot about keyword research and SEO, then you may have trouble competing for a search that gets plenty of traffic, even if you try a thousand different titles.

Facebook has a huge page rank, and if you make a Facebook page, you can get very highly ranked in a Google search, especially if you have a lot of likes.

Just having a lot of friends there can be a huge advantage, as you can get views just by posting in your news feed occasionally, although that’s not one of the best ways to get traffic.

Twitter is a fast growing site, and I personally can get over a thousand views a day from my followers, by scheduling messages, and tweeting a lot.

I love StumbleUpon for sharing content with a widespread appeal, as if people like it in a popular category like bizzare or humor, it can get thousands of views on a page.

SEO is important for sure, but you are probably better to try to make a You Tube video, a Facebook page, and use all of the most visited sites in the world as well as Google to promote your site.

Professional Social Promotion

This is my site, which offers a range of very affordable social promotion solutions, such as hundreds of Facebook page likes for ten bucks, scheduled tweets to tens of thousands of Twitter followers for a dollar a day, social sharing, You Tube video making, and a whole range of great services.

You can contact me at rowan@professionalsocialpromotion to discuss what you would like done, and the price is negotiable to some degree.

I can write quality articles, make social bookmarking back links, and help you set up an affordable advertising campaign.

Apart from the paid services, you can subscribe to the newsletter to learn how to do everything that I do for free, with our world-class internet marketing training. You will get free e-books, videos, and links to valuable resources that will teach you how to build a successful business online from start to finish.

So if you’re trying to get more traffic from social promotion, I can help you, whether you want to do it yourself, or have me do it for you.
