This article discusses the famous alien abduction of Travis Walton in 1975.

In 1975, Mike Rogers, head of a tree clearance service, employed Travis Walton. The United States Forest Service contracted Rogers crew to clear some trees in New Mexico. One night, Rogers, Walton and the rest of the seven-man crew were driving home when they saw a luminous, disc-shaped object off the side of the road.

Walton got out of the truck and gazed up at the object. A blue beam from the UFO hit Walton and raised him about a foot in the air. His arms and legs outstretched, he shot back about ten feet. Then he was gone. The men left the scene and returned to the small town of Snowflake. There they reported the incident to the Sheriff.

The next day, volunteers and officials began searching the area where Walton was supposedly abducted. But they could not find him. News of the disappearance spread around the world. The six remaining members of the crew took polygraph tests and five passed. Allen Dallis test was inconclusive but eventually he passed too.

After five days, Walton returned.

Walton woke up to find himself on the cold pavement in Heber, New Mexico. He called his brother-in-law Grant to say he was at a gas station. On late Tuesday morning, he was driven to Phoenix where Dr. Lester Steward examined him. Coral Lorenzon of the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization promised Walton that she would arrange for exams by two medical doctors,

Under hypnosis, Travis Walton revealed the story of his abduction. Walton remembered some kind of light then found himself lying on a reclining bed. He saw three beings in the room with him and lunged at one of them. In five days, the aliens let him go.

Three years later, he published the book, “The Walton Experience” which was filmed in the nineties as “A Fire in the Sky”. This case caused people who did not believe in alien abduction to re-examine their beliefs. Travis Walton says he has not had a normal life since the incident.

The fact that seven men passed lie detector tests lends much credence to the Walton alien abduction.

Like Mulder of the X-Files, I want to believe that there is something out there in space.

I Want to Believe

I guess there is a Mulder in each of us. We want to believe. We want to believe that there is intelligent life in space and some sort of alien life force here on this planet living among us. But can we really believe?

The extraterrestrial phenomenon is very much like our religious attitudes. Unless the waters part for us, individually, we just aren’t going believe. Fortunately, most of our religious beliefs are well rooted in faith and for so many of us it’s not just blind faith. Many of us can testify to a personal relationship with our God. Hence, there are so many people that can’t accept most religious beliefs because they have no real personal experiences of their own to draw from.

Although the famous writer, Whitley Strieber, author of the best selling book, “Communion” says he has this kind of relationship with aliens that visit and communicate with him on a regular basis. There are others that testify to the same thing. To many to mention, and, again have no real proof of their experiences except for a lot of subjective personal experiences, dreams, and the usual things that go bump in the night.

More and more people like Whitley Strieber, intelligent and articulate have come forth with their own personal testimonies of personal encounters with alien life forces. Some of them very compelling. While an author such as Whitley Strieber might have found a wealth of new material to write about there are no obvious reasons why some people come forth sharing their experiences with aliens.

One of the most compelling stories and certainly a man that had nothing to gain but everything to lose is the Travis Walton story, “Fire in the Sky”. His book, “The Walton Experience” was later made into the movie, “Fire in Sky”, accounts for his alien abduction in 1975 near Snowfalke Arizona.

Walton’s account and personal drama are not that much different than the account we get of a demon possessed girl in the movie, ”The Exorcist”. People of faith tend to at least accept this movies basic premise, that demon possession is possible. Most people of little or no faith consider the movie entertaining but nothing more.

“The Exorcist”, is based on the real life experiences of a boy instead of a girl as portrayed in the movie. The exoticism is said to have lasted a good bit longer than what was portrayed in the movie as well. But without going into great detail about the exorcism or the movie “The Exorcist”, the real exorcism was sanctioned by the Catholic church as a bona fide case of possession.

We could probably all agree that unexplained phenomenon does exist. For the most part, all of us find ways to live with things we don’t have the answers to, at least not right away. Personal experiences speak louder than all the scientific journals in the world whether the subject of investigation is religious or extraterrestrial.

Probably the most fascinating phenomenon that gets grouped into the same category as UFO’s are the cow mutilations’ and crop circles. Both of these phenomenon’s leave evidence even though we don’t seem to get much out of the evidence. But there is no denying that something is mutilating cows and forming crop circles. Some of the crop circles and their investigations’ reveal strong evidence that they were not made by hand nor man. Of course others have panned out as hoaxes. But the mutilations of a living thing, even a cow, is really a crime.

I don’t recall any UFO stories or investigations that have involved murder or the killing of a life. There is a story, once again, only a story, of the 44 dead. The legend tells of an event very much like Steven Spielberg’s movie, “Encounters of the Third Kind”. Back in the 1980’s our government made contact with an alien civilization. Or rather they made contact with us. A meeting was set up some where out in the desert, probably near Roswell, New Mexico. Scientist from all over the world where called in for this occasion and opportunity to make contact. According to the legend something happen and the Aliens killed 44 of our special ops men. It appeared as an accident had happened and a treaty was agreed upon. There were several kinds of exchanges’ made and the relationship between our government and the aliens although strained at times is still continuing to this day.

I suppose if the average American had an opportunity to see all the cutting edge scientific innovations’ our scientist are capable of producing we’d wouldn’t be so parody about aliens but more suspicious of Big Brother.

We Americans have always felt threaten for every corner in our world even in space I would imagine. We spend so much time defending our borders I can’t see where our logic would be any different looking up into space.

Truly our world is made up of some wondrous phenomenon.
Whether of a spiritual nature or scientific nature there is still so much about this world and others left to know, learn and explore.

Within ourselves is one mystery after another mystery waiting to unfold. What is the origin of man? Will we ever finish mapping the human mind? Who knows what we will find within ourselves in the future. DNA research is coming to light and still so much to learn about our inherited human genome.

The answers to personal experiences like what was portrayed in both “Fire in the Sky” and “The Exorcist” just may be found within ourselves. Like Mulder, I want to believe.

For the first time, mainstream science gave serious attention to an alien abduction case.

The Travis Walton UFO case was a landmark in ufology. For the first time, mainstream science gave serious attention to an alien abduction. At the same time, people who did not believe in unidentified flying objects were given cause to rethink their position.

According to UFO researcher Billy Booth, it began one night in November, 1975, when a lumber crew headed by Mike Rogers decided to knock off. As they drove toward the main highway, they were surprised to see a strange glow off the side of the road. It was a luminous object shaped like a flattened disc. Rogers stopped his pickup truck.

Travis Walton was overcome by curiosity. He got out of the truck to get a better look at the flying saucer. Suddenly, a blue beam came from the UFO and knocked Travis to the ground. The other men watched in horror and left the area in terror. However, they returned to see if Travis was dead or injured but he was nowhere to be found.

Walton later stated that after being hit by the beam, he later came to find himself on an examination table. In the room with him were three strange beings. Meanwhile, a massive manhunt began consisting of men on foot and in four-wheel drive vehicles, scent dogs and helicopters. But they could find no sign of Travis. Word of his disappearance spread around the word, and news reporters, ufologists and the curious descended upon Snowflake.

On Monday, November 10, all of the remaining crew took lie detector tests. Cy Gilson, an employee of the Arizona Department of Public Safety administered the tests. They all passed the tests, indicating that they had all seen a strange object in the woods that night.

That night, November 10, Grant Neff, Travis brother-in-law, received a phone call from Travis. Travis said he was at a phone booth at the Heber gas station. Duane Walton and Neff drove to the gas station and found Travis in the same clothes, unshaven and thinner. He was also hungry, thirsty, dirty, weak and feeble. The three men drove back to Snowflake.

The Walton family took Travis to a Dr. Lester Steward. However, they were upset to learn that Steward was a hypnotherapist and not a doctor of medicine. Coral Lorenzon of APRO, a UFO organization, promised Duane that she could arrange a physical exam for Travis by two medical doctors. The checkup revealed two unusual features:

1. Travis’s elbow had a small red spot

2. An analysis of Travis’s urine revealed no acetones

The commotion caused by the incident eventually subsided. Travis Walton stayed in Snowflake and became the foreman at a lumber mill. He married Mike Roger’s sister Dana and had several children. Travis sometimes turns up at UFO conventions.

I believe that there is a 99% chance that aliens abducted Travis Walton on November 10, 1975. What clinches it for me is the polygraph tests. All the men involved took the test and all passed it. I do not see how they could all fool the lie detector.

For thousands of years people have claimed of seeing strange creatures appearing from thin air and abducting victims.

This strange and frightening phenomenon is associated with people encountering UFO’s. Accounts from every country and culture around the globe have reported similar cases of people abducted by alien beings. Many skeptics would say all these reports are nothing more than mass hysteria. That the people reporting these encounters are merely hallucinating and suffering from some unknown, mental instability. But this particular phenomenon even goes back to Biblical times, involving angels and demon-like creatures capturing unsuspecting inhabitance. Even further in history shows them to be more “God-like” in nature, visiting peacefully and imparting wisdom to cultures dating back nearly 10,000 years ago.

What was the earliest reported case of alien abduction in out time? One of the very first known cases was Villas Boas, a Brazilian farmer, who reported being abducted in 1957. He claimed in quite detail that the aliens took him, performed medical examination, and made him have sex with a female humanoid creature. This type of abduction would later be more common in our time involving women reporting that they were abducted, forced to have sex, their eggs taken, and that medical test were done by aliens for some kind of cross-breeding purposes.

Before alien abduction became mainstream in our present society as a sort of running joke associated with UFO’s and aliens, the media and non-believers, have accepted the fact that numerous eyewitnesses are simply mistaken about what they actually saw. The second most compelling abduction case soon came to light a few years after the Boas’ case. During the 1960’s the term “alien abduction” really gain attention with the famous Betty and Barney Hill case in 1961. The Hills were returning home late at night when they encountered a UFO that was following their car. The Hills remembered stopping their car, they observed the UFO landing, they notice aliens from afar outside the saucer shape craft, they tried to get away, and than suffered a memory loss as they came home that evening.

The Hills lived in New Hampshire and days later felt their memories of that night were fragmented and incomplete. Betty complained of strange dreams and both were tormented by buzzing sounds associated with their memories of encountering the UFO. They sought counseling by several psychotherapist like Dr. Benjamin Simon. After hypnotizing the Hills to recall that night, Dr. Simon noted that Barney suffered a much more traumatic experience than Betty. The Hills remembered being taken inside the alien craft, separated for medical examination, and then released. In 1975 an excellent TV movie starring James Earl Jones and Estelle Parson, retold the story of the Hills Abduction case.

The Travis Walton case on November 5, 1975 was more alarming. Walton and six other American loggers encountered a UFO in the forest region of Arizona. Walton went in for a closer look at the hovering disc-shape craft and was struck down by a light-beam. Panic stricken, the others fled and reported Walton missing to the police. A massive man-hunt ensued by the police and found nothing. Six days later Walton returned suffering memory loss. A psychiatrist using hypnosis discovered that Walton recalls the aliens took him aboard their space craft. Small grey aliens tried to examined him and feeling threaten, Walton resisted, the film “Fire in the Sky”, made in 1993, illustrates Walton’s fear up to that point, but fails to tell the rest of his story about encountering human-like people also on the alien craft.

Dr. Carl Sagan, astronomer and author, consultant and adviser to NASA, his award-winning 1980 TV series “Cosmos” helped popularized planetary exploration, life in the cosmos, astrophysics, science education, and government regulation of science and the environment. Sagan was known as a skeptic of UFO sightings for lack of definitive proof. He had heard the Hills abduction case and seen the Betty Hill star map she drew from memory of Zeta Reticuli as being a “random chance” of star points.

But he did propose a theory that the notion of ancient “demon abductions” reported throughout history was very similar to modern day alien abductions, walking through walls, sexual abuse, and medical experiments on hapless humans. Before his death in 1996, a colleague of Sagan asked him to rethink his skeptic views on UFO’s and close encounters. Sagan agreed, he researched and didn’t realize that the amount of data regarding UFO’s and alien abduction cases were not only prevalent today, but not entirely unpersuasive, that there might be some truth about UFO’s, and alien beings visiting our planet.

This article discusses three of the most famous cases of alien abduction.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of cases in which people claim to be abducted by aliens. Most incidents involve medical examinations and “Lost Time”. “Lost Time” refers to the fact that most abducted people will have no memory of the event but find that they have two or three hours that they cannot account for. Through regressive hypnosis, victims are able to remember their abductions.

While driving home to New Hampshire from a vacation in Canada in 1961, Barney and Betty Hill noticed a star that seemed to be moving. After a while, it got closer and appeared to be following them. They stopped their car and got out to get a better view of the craft. Looking through his binoculars, Barney could see windows and people.

The next thing they knew, the Hills were back in the car and driving home again. But they had “lost” two hours! The next day, they called Pease Air Force Base and spoke to Major Paul W. Henderson. Henderson told them that their radar had tracked an unidentified flying object the night before. During the nights that followed, the Hills had terrifying nightmares.

In order to get relief from their nightmares and to find out what had happened to the missing two hours, the Hills sought help from a psychiatrist. He used regressive hypnosis which revealed that Betty and Barney had been taken aboard an alien spacecraft and subjected to medical tests.

Travis Walton

Travis Walton was a member of a seven-man crew that was clearing trees in a national forest in Arizona. In 1975, the men saw a luminous object in the woods while driving home. Walton got out of the truck to get a better look at the craft. Suddenly, a blue beam hit him and knocked him to the ground. The other men panicked and drove off.

After a few minutes, the six men turned around and drove back. They could find neither Walton nor the craft. They drove to the nearby town of snowflake and reported the incident. The next morning, a massive manhunt was begun but no sign of Walton could be found. However, he returned five days after he disappeared. It eventually came out that Travis had been abducted by aliens.

Whitley Streiber

Author Whitley Streiber’s abduction took place at an isolated cabin in northern New York state when he found a strange creature in his bedroom. That was all Streiber could remember until he found himself outside a few hours later. When a Dr. Donald F. Klein performed regressive hypnosis on him, Streiber was able to recall floating out of his bedroom to a strange craft

On board the UFO, Whitley Streiber underwent a number of medical tests. This included the insertion of a long needle into his brain. He was diagnosed by Dr. Klein as having temporal lobe epilepsy which can result in hallucinations of voices, music, people, smells or tastes. Streiber never accepted this diagnosis and wrote about his experiences in the book “Communion”.

Conclusion

To me, the best and most likely of the three cases is the Betty and Barney Hill incident. The Hills had the same nightmares. Skeptics explain this as resulting from Betty hearing Barney talk in his sleep and incorporating this into her dreams. But I believe this is really stretching. I believe the regressive hypnosis confirms that Barney and Betty had a shared experience.
