In the 30 day period beginning August 21, 2011 and ending September 20, 2011 Japan experienced 69 (sixty nine) earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater. Although Japan has a history of earthquake activity this year the island nation has seen more than its share of the natural disasters. The country’s location relative to tectonic plate fault lines and shifting of the earth’s major plates could have something to do with this increased activity.
