"...little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation..."

Part One

Part Two

“This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete’, paralleling that of many Fs — only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.”

Junior has argued this one before- he says he doesn’t disregard small talk and flirtation. However, I have noticed some patterns about the way he goes about both. See, when he has a conversation, “small talk,” he doesn’t keep it vague and simple very long. He’s much more patient when the conversation can go beyond five words into what really is “up.” So while he may be willing to talk about the weather, he doesn’t stop at, “Hey look! It’s snowing!” Instead, he goes on to say, “Let’s have a snowball fight! We can meet here at this time. You can invite this person, this person, and this person, and I’ll give this person a ride there,” or something else along the lines of turning small talk into an idea.

I think flirting may be one of those things he does either to conform, or because he doesn’t know what else to do to get a girl. He does have an advantage with holding a conversation due to his intelligence. That’s his main tactic. Besides that, he goes about flirting the same way with every girl he likes. I’m not even sure if he’s aware of it, but he has been known to say similar things and perform similar flirty actions to get the attention of different girls. If he knows this, he has no tact because he let someone else figure it out. That tends to ruin the effect on the girl if she knows he’s done it before for someone else.

Not everyone is reasonable and direct. You know that. You can’t just write those people off, though. The majority of girls don’t make a lot of sense. You can argue all you want, but if they don’t want to hear it, they won’t listen. Just love them when they’re angry and it will all work out when they come back to their senses.

“Probably the strongest INTJ assets in the interpersonal area are their intuitive abilities and their willingness to “work at” a relationship. Although as Ts they do not always have the kind of natural empathy that many Fs do, the Intuitive function can often act as a good substitute by synthesizing the probable meanings behind such things as tone of voice, turn of phrase, and facial expression. This ability can then be honed and directed by consistent, repeated efforts to understand and support those they care about, and those relationships which ultimately do become established with an INTJ tend to be characterized by their robustness, stability, and good communications.”

So basically, I sense/know what’s wrong with you, and you guess what’s wrong with me based on the way I say things. Just be aware that if I think one thing and say another, my face won’t always represent my feelings on the subject.

Good communications is definite. If there’s a problem in the relationship, he’s not afraid to point it out, and he’s smart enough to come up with a solution. The only issue comes from getting the girl to go along with it.

System Builders.
I promise this is the last part.

INFJ Profile

Part One

Part Two

“In their own way, INFJs are just as much “systems builders” as are INTJs; the difference lies in that most INFJ “systems” are founded on human beings and human values, rather than information and technology. Their systems may for these reasons be conceptually “blurrier” than analogous NT ones, harder to measure in strict numerical terms, and easier to take for granted — yet it is these same underlying reasons which make the resulting contributions to society so vital and profound.”

Remember what I said about my eighty-six back-up plans? That’s a system. I also keep a detailed weekly and yearly calendar in my head at all times, which I refer to whenever I need to change a date on something. I also keep track of patterns of behavior, odd connections, and real-life literary symbolism. I categorize people according to their best functions and their flaws, not in a judgemental way, but in a way that I can easily pull up the best candidate for a task at will. I know exactly how much time I can waste before I do my homework, and I know who the top five people I should ask for help are and why.

Every part of my life is based on some system I’ve come up with, and many of these systems are what makes my lazy, messy life so organized and productive. People may not even realize how much thought I’m putting into something, or what I’m sacrificing to accomplish something, but I am always perfectly aware.

I may seem out of the box at times to you, but I promise I’m in some sort of maze that links everything together.

I really do have a lot to say on the subject.

The INFJ Profile

Part One

“Usually self-expression comes more easily to INFJs on paper, as they tend to have strong writing skills. Since in addition they often possess a strong personal charisma, INFJs are generally well-suited to the “inspirational” professions such as teaching (especially in higher education) and religious leadership. Psychology and counseling are other obvious choices, but overall, INFJs can be exceptionally difficult to pigeonhole by their career paths. Perhaps the best example of this occurs in the technical fields. Many INFJs perceive themselves at a disadvantage when dealing with the mystique and formality of “hard logic”, and in academic terms this may cause a tendency to gravitate towards the liberal arts rather than the sciences. However, the significant minority of INFJs who do pursue studies and careers in the latter areas tend to be as successful as their T counterparts, as it is *iNtuition* — the dominant function for the INFJ type — which governs the ability to understand abstract theory and implement it creatively.”

And this, my darlings, is the answer to my life as a whole. I am a writer above all else. I can’t do everything for you, but I can explain what needs to be done so that someone else will do it. Writing is what gives me the power of delegation.

Oddly, I do like math because it usually only has one answer. That’s typically just because it’s easy to figure out, though. I don’t like math that doesn’t immediately make sense, and I abhor all things science, especially Biology and Physics. I’m also very anti-grammar-nazi. Sometimes, fake words just work more better for me when I’m trying to explain things. I can say them in person, so why can’t I say them on paper? I can’t explain the world and follow all your rules- the style of how I say it is what reveals the actual meaning.

Duh.

I certainly prefer liberal arts. It’s not that I’m bad at other subjects- I still get all A’s in my AP classes- I just hate learning it. When I have to prioritize what I need to understand and what I need to memorize how to do, I get pretty frustrated. I wish I could just understand it all and not have to do any of it. I also hate learning “theories.” Theories mean it isn’t for sure, people just think it’s a possibility. But they accept it like it’s fact. And they teach it like it’s fact. And call it a theory. Just CALL IT a FACT for crying out loud!

I’m really only comfortable being in charge of things that I fully understand. I could never fully understand biology, even if I got it well enough to be a doctor. There are some things that are just too concrete for my out-of-this-world logic to consider as possible. Plus I hate when doctors use big words instead of just saying it like it is. Stop showing off, nerd.

This was a response that I wrote for school. Inspired by the documentary, "The Corporation."

A corporation is essentially a human being. With the same rights as a human has, this makes the dealings of corporations much easier. They can sue, be sued, are liable to buy and sell property and possess a variety of other benefits. Corporations are the driving force behind our modern day economy. Without even knowing it, you are using products and services powered by the corporation.

Corporations supply millions of jobs to people. Many of these people couldn’t sustain themselves if it weren’t for the employment of the corporation. For example, many 3rd world countries work for corporate factories. Without the employment of theses factories, these people would not be able to afford the cost of living, leading to their deaths. Although some corporate factories don’t offer outstanding wages, it is enough for people to sustain themselves and their families. Corporations provide healthy capitalist competition. As a result, we can purchase cheaper, better products. . Corporations such as Nike and Adidas create enough competition to force them to create better equipment for us consumers to purchase. This competition regulates prices and gives us ease of mind as the value for the product is undoubtedly there.

However, it does all boil down to how much you are willing to pay. Many people are against corporations and there debatable unfairness. If you are willing to spend a considerable amount of money on fair trade goods, or avoid anything produced by corporations, then go right ahead. Just take a look at the computer you are using when you type your response to my seemingly ridiculous statements and you’ll notice the incredible impact that corporations have in our society.

An account of the effect of different types of exploitation in beauty pageants.

Exploitation in case of the beauty pageants can take different forms. Commercial exploitation where the contestants are tied to contracts where they cannot work with anybody else except the sponsor for a given period of time. They are tied down with one company which may forbid them from carrying out their education of professional endeavors. In fact many lead a disturbed family and social life as a result

Some of them are forced to wear clothes and accessories against their wishes while others do it for the lure of fame and money. Contestants from Islamic and Eastern European countries still are very much conservative with regards to this aspect. The female contestants are required to cover their entire body and head even while competing.

Many who contest are known to maintain a strict diet and exercise regimen to the point of starvation. This can play havoc with their health in the long run. Many Hollywood actors are known to increase or decrease their weight or muscle strength to adapt to their characters in the movies. There was a movie for which actor Matt Daemon had lost 15-20 kg weight in such a short time that the doctors were worried his heart did not fail after being exposed to such stress. This is an indirect form of exploitation which can send the wrong signals to the audience. There is another example of actress ? increasing and decreasing her weight for the film ‘Bridget Jones diary Part 1 and 11’.

Though the models have to be in perfect shape and attitude, they are also given rigorous training in exercise, etiquette and personality building. Some of them may not be able to cope with the stress of the tournament and succumb to depression, drug abuse or alcoholism. This will totally ruin their career in the long run. It has also been seen that after the beauty pageant, an initial phase of fame and attention is passed and then when all the excitement subsides, it may not be possible for some contestants to cope up with the lowering attention. As a result they need to be properly counseled before the contests about handling the different aspects of life post the contest. It has to be reiterated to them that they represent their nations and are together to ensure a bright future for humanity.

Bias against color and knowledge of English language has also been removed to a large extent. Today many more contestants can understand English even if they cannot speak it. Also with the increased world wide migrations, black contestant may represent a white predominant country and vice versa. Many contestants are seen to come through mixed parentage or are from families that have migrated to the lands when there were small child.

Thus the focus on exploitation undergoes a seesaw change. It is as one might look towards it. While one person can handle it well, others may find it difficult to tolerate. Some amount of exploitation will remain. It can be seen in all professions where there is competition and a case for profit. Some exploit the good abilities and some the bad characteristics. Some exploit relationships and some exploit people for their own advantages. There is exploitation in societal issues, education, healthcare, government and every other field in some form or other. There is exploitation in families and friends.

There are demonstrators of political or social issues who use this event to voice their issues and protest against the events. They hold social rallies, and try to disrupt event proceeding to prove their point. We can control exploitation but it will remain as a miniscule part of society too keep us on our toes.

As the ways of our social interactions enhance, new concepts, discriminations and issues constantly crop up. Giving them names, definitions and detailed descriptions is another group of people, I bet totally dedicated to their individual causes. Here are some of those unusual isms.

Heightism: Discrimination of people based on their height. The discrimination can be made to both unusually tall or unusually short people.

Adultism: Discrimination on the basis of age usually made against young people.

Ageism: Refers to the fear of discrimination that comes in at different ages as one grows old.

Humanocentrism: Discrimination that the human race is the most central and significant one in the universe.

Chronocentrism: Discrimination towards a specific period of time as being superior to other times before or after it.

With a list of these isms being a part of our system, I can believe that there are many more of these to come. I could suggest,

Hairism: Discrimination against people with unusually short or long hair.

Decibelism: Discrimination against people with unusually loud or soft voices and also,

Badbreathism: Discrimination against people with bad breaths.

All the things you should know about faucets in your home.

Faucets come in four different types; compression, rotating ball, cartridge, and ceramic disc. By all outward appearances, the ball, cartridge and disk types look nearly the same. Typically found in the kitchen, but making their way into the bathroom, each has a single lever that controls the water flow. Note that the cartridge faucet has some models that are operated with two handles and looks similar to a compression type faucet. The compression type, which is the oldest type of faucet, has two handles. You usually see them in the bathroom. So here’s your Jeopardy trivia question: what sets each type apart? Drum roll, please! And the answer is … how they work on the inside. As you can bet, this determines how each is repaired.

—COMPRESSION FAUCET—

As the name implies, turning the handles constrict the water flow. With the water turned off, inside each handle a small washer at the base of the compression stem is tightened down to seal off the water flow. Turning the handles on releases the washer from its seat and lets the water run. Unfortunately, compression type faucets are notorious for leaks because these small washers wear out over time and can no longer completely seal off the water. Replacing the washer, rubber O-ring or removing the corrosion from the valve seat usually does the trick.

—ROTATING BALL FAUCET—

Again, as the name implies, there is either a plastic or metal ball inside the faucet base. The single lever rotates over this ball, which has several openings to allow water flow. One opening aligns to the spout. By shifting the lever back and forth, you control how much water gets through that opening. The other openings on the ball align to the hot and cold water supply lines. Shifting the lever side to side controls the hot or cold temperature.

And you guessed it, shifting the lever again and again wears down the inside components and they need replacing. Fortunately there are repair kits that include everything you need, just know your model number to match it up to the right kit.

—CARTRIDGE FAUCET—

Nothing like callmg a spade a spade, with this type of faucet, they couldn’t get any clearer on naming this type of faucet. Inside this faucet body is a cartridge that lifts up and down to operate the water flow. On the cartridge are several O-rings that are used to seal the openings for the spout and the hot and cold water supply. As you lift the lever up, (or as with the two-handle model, turn the knob) the O-rings clear the opening for the water to come out of the spout. The higher you raise the lever, the more powerful the flow. Movmg it side to side releases the O-rings, which allows the hot and cold water to flow and allows you to adjust the temperature Gust like in the rotating ball type). But alas, those O-rings or the cartridge itself can wear out over time causing that annoying drip. Replacing the O-rings or the entire cartridge is simple enough. The best part is everything you usually need comes in a kit. Again, match your faucet model number with the kit for the right parts.

—CERAMIC DISC FAUCET—

This is my favorite type of faucet. Why, you ask? Well folks, they’re basically maintenance free. These bad boys are the new kids on the block when it comes to faucet types. Hailing from the latest in European design, they look very similar to the rotating ball and cartridge type faucets. However inside the base of these faucets are two kiln-fired ceramic disks that slide over each other, sort of like a sliding glass door lying On its side, to allow the water to flow. When the water flow is off, the disks create a virtually indestructible seal between them that no water can squeak through. On the offbeat chance your disk faucet is leaking, then I guess you are going to have to move. Or you can purchase a ceramic disk repair kit and replace it in no time. Don’t forget that faucet model number when you go to get your kit. Be sure to check those inlet holes as well, sometimes they get clogged or corroded.

Many studies have been preformed to determine the type of learner an individual is. Each person absorbs information differently and therefore has a different method of recording, remembering and recalling that information. Felder & Soloman (2009) suggests that these differing types of learners range from active to reflective learners, sensing to intuitive learners, visual to verbal learners, and sequential to global learners.

Active learners and reflective learners tend to mix and mingle their study habits. It would be unwise to label ones self as one or the other. Felder & Soloman (2009) suggest that active learners should study in groups and use complex drawings, charts and graphs to assist with their absorption of knowledge. He also says that it is good to be balanced between the two attributes. A purely active learner will tend to jump to conclusions, where a passive learner may not ever come to a conclusion at all due to a slow reflection upon a topic on their own. The best way to decipher between an active versus passive learner is to have them describe themselves with one of these two phrases: “Let’s try it out and see how it works, or, Let’s think about it first” (Felder & Soloman, 2009), with the first describing an active learner and the later describing a passive learner.

A sensing learner is the opposite of a intuitive learner. While a sensing learner would prefer to learn cold, hard facts, a intuitive learner would rather come to the conclusion themselves through a process of examining circumstances. Working as a nurse, for example, it would be beneficial to be a intuitive learner as “you will be guided by the need to explore options based on principles and patterns and an understanding of commonalities and differences” (Nugent, Patricia M. & Vitale, Barbara A., 2008, pg 11). Sensing learners seem to best retain information through the use of tangible study materials and direct examples. Felder & Soloman (September 2009) suggest that intuitive learners are much more likely to become bored in class, where as sensing learners, students are often asking teachers to provide more specific examples.

Visual and verbal learners are, as the previous mentioned categories, polar opposites as well. A student who is a visual learner learns from seeing and doing. A student who is a verbal learner learns best from repetition and re-looking over notes and even re-teaching material to another person. “In most college classes very little visual information is presented: students mainly listen to lectures and read material written on chalkboards and in textbooks and handouts. Unfortunately most people are visual learners” (Felder & Soloman, 2009). This presents a problem to learners of all ages and makes it crucial for students to be well rounded in their study skills. If they are not, much that is learned in class can be lost because of poor interpretation or just forgetfulness.

In comparison to the before mentioned qualities, sequential learners are the opposite of global learners. A sequential learner, according to Felder & Soloman (2009) learns things in a linear pattern, or step by step. A global learner can look at the big picture and derive information from it. It is almost a random pattern in which they acquire information, and they are able to organize it accordingly. Both of these qualities are necessary in the learning process. Information is always presented in different ways and it is very beneficial to the student to be able to perceive it from different directions. Ultimately it is a good quality to be able to learn in sequence, and use critical thinking to piece something together backwards.

There are many different types of people in the word, and with them come many different types of learners. Two students could perceive and obtain information from two completely different methods and still perform the same on an exam. As long as a student has good study skills and patience, any method of learning can be the “best” way to absorb information.

People can be either sieves or sponges when it comes to advice and information from other people. They can be those who just hear, or those who just listen. This article tells you more about the personality you should ideally develop.

I’ve been told that in life, there are two kinds of people when it comes to advice and knowledge. The sieves and the sponges. As we grow older, we get to pick which one we belong to and it’s amazing the way a number of people end up becoming sieves rather than sponges. Those who want to become sponges, end up becoming sieves.

You are probably wondering why I’m harping on about kitchen items but here is what I actually mean by sieves and sponges when it comes to our society.

Picture a sieve. Flour flows through it freely with only a few particles sticking to the metal mesh. Sometimes, the occasional dirt particle clogs up the pores in the sieve, stopping the flour from going through. And in other cases, you may find a small piece of stone among those tiny particles of flour. The sieves are people who let advice and knowledge pour through them in masses but they never retain any of it. They just let it go through them when that advice that is flowing through them could actually be quite useful. Even though they let the information go through them, they don’t really store it. As time goes by, just like a sieve, they clog up their holes (their ears) and avoiding letting any advice or knowledge pour through them at all. Sometimes, when they are really obstinate, they only retain the massive negatives which hinder the knowledge from going through. The sieves are the kinds who only hear but don’t listen. They know that they are being subjected to knowledge but they don’t bother breaking it down and understanding it. All of us have had sieve moments. I know that sometimes when my mum asks me to do any chores while I’m watching TV, I know she’s talking to me but I don’t analyse why she’s asking me to do those chores. I just say something like, “Yeah, okay, later, mum.” All of us have had moments like that, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t become sponges.

Picture a sponge. It soaks the water in it and becomes wet, with the occasional drop oozing out. You then take the sponge and squeeze it to let the water out. You squeeze it tightly if you want a lot out and you squeeze it slightly if you just want a little. This water then wipes away any impurities that may lie on surfaces. The sponges, in terms of people, are those who listen carefully to advice and information and store it in them. Because they are making space in their brain for so much knowledge, they may ooze out the occasional useful piece of knowledge. But when it comes to using that knowledge, they use it according to how much will get them the best result. This knowledge that they store and then use when needed, really pays off to wash off any iffy situations if they do fall into any. The sponges are the listeners. They know that whatever they hear is essential. They can effortlessly understand what they hear and they know that actually synthesising what they hear could be useful in the future for their own advantage. Using the situation above, if I understood that mum needed me doing the chores at that moment because she was tired, I could have been a better individual and there could have been even room for a reward.

Life is filled with people who are either sieves or sponges. All of us have moments when we are sieves and other moments when we are sponges, but we essentially belong to one category most of the times. In every one of us, there is either a sponge or a sieve that is dominant. Neither is permanent because it can change with our lifestyle and thoughts but when it comes down to listening to other people’s knowledge and advice, don’t be a sieve, be a sponge.
