In 1968, The Bulk Carrier “Grihuna” was sailing off the coast of Florida.  It was during the midnight to 4:00 AM shift.  The Officer of the Deck noticed some submerged lights about 30-40 meters from the ship, and about 10 to 15 meters deep.  The object was moving faster than our submarines at the time.

I have all my life been a fastidious sleeper.  Even when I was small, I had my process, and I lay on my back without moving all night, which was much remarked-upon.  Still, requiring my process, it has always been roughly the same:

Get someplace where it will be safe to lose consciousness, if at all possible.

Change to pajamas.

Turn out light.

And that is the ritual I observe whenever I prepare to sleep. 

Although there was that one morning back around the warmer months of 1989… 

It was a Saturday morning, and I was waked by the phone.  My friend said she was at the mechanic with her car, and wanted me to come give her a lift to her house.  I hopped up and pretty much just peed, washed my hands, grabbed my keys and went.  I walked out to where my car was parked along the side of the street in front of my house. 

Approaching the driver’s door, which was on the street side, I was freaked to see the driver’s side of the car.  The entire length from headlight to taillight, was heavily splashed with some dried, lime-yellow, granular substance.  I rubbed with my finger and detected a distinct oiliness, nevertheless found it so stuck onto the paint job that I was afraid to scrape on it.  So I walked up and down the block out in the street.  It was a quiet morning.  No other cars splashed on the street side.  Then I walked up and down the block two more times, from the sidewalks on either side of my street.  No sidewalkward vandalism, either.

Just my car.

I hopped in and drove it to the mechanic to meet my friend.  She was bulgy-eyed to see the side of my car, and ran and got the mechanics.  They said they weren’t sure what it was, but it might be soap powders wetted down and sloshed on the car, because detergent could eat through the paint job.  They offered to wash it off and I thanked them.

And thought no more about it until lunchtime the following Monday.  I was in the living room when Doug Adair (TV news announcer) said:  “Police are still investigating reports of UFO sightings over Bellfontaine over the weekend, and trying to determine the nature of the lime-yellow, detergent-like substance found on many cars in the area.”

It was then that it hit me:  When the phone woke me on Saturday morning around 80 miles from Bellefontaine, why was I dressed?  I had on underwear and pants and shirt.  Maybe shoes.  Don’t remember stepping into shoes, but I was wearing shoes by the time I saw the car that morning. 

Why was I fully dressed for the out-of-doors when I woke that morning, although I went to sleep in a full length nightgown?

ALIENS, SPACESHIPS and UFO’s; Are they really real?

Strange phenomena, unexplained sightings, shadow people, voices, unexplained or identified objects in the heavens above us and it is not us or anything from any other known Country.  What is it?  Is it real or just a figment of our oft times over-active imaginations?  One or two people comment on it and you think maybe they’ve been tapping daddy’s moonshine still a little too frequently even if they appear sober as a judge when they are telling their tale of an invasion by aliens from outer space.  They say they saw it and they swear to it.

The police chief, the village mayor, the Baptist preacher, the Catholic priest and your mother along with another three or four dozen locals all say they saw the same thing, then you begin to listen a little closer and wonder if maybe there really is something strange happening; but when the federal government and the military start trying to explain it away as nothing more than mistaken identity and human error; you didn’t see what you thought you saw and pictures don’t mean a thing, you start thinking “cover-up.” 

What does the government know that we don’t know?  What or who are they trying to hide?  What are they up to?  What is really going on in Area #51 in Nevada and other such places controlled by our government and off base to the general public.  What is all this talk about aliens from another world, spaceships, UFO’s and other such phenomena?  What should you believe if any of it?

I recently read an interesting article on just this subject written by MJRapp.  It was on the odd tale of Bob Lazar and the U.S. Intelligence and research area commonly known as Area #51 and the reality of space invaders and cover-ups and top secrets and things our government clearly doesn’t want us to know.  The article is centered on reports given by a man named Bob Lazar who supposedly once worked at Area 51 and whether what he has publicly proclaimed is fact or fiction.  To read MJRapp’s article, follow this link  http://socyberty.com/paranormal/the-odd-tale-of-bob-lazar-the-truth-about-ufos-and-area-51-straight-from-a-man-who-has-worked-there/  It is a very well thought out, well researched and written piece.  Is Bob Lazar being truthful?  Probably not entirely but maybe; or maybe he is just a plant to steer us away from the real truth.  It is all plausible.

I don’t know about Bob Lazar, whether he is telling the truth or not.  What I do know and have no doubt about is that there is definitely intelligence beyond our own humanity within the universe, some for good and some for evil, no doubt about it.  If you believe in God and in the Bible you absolutely cannot doubt it.  It is there and you know it is true even if you have no physical proof of other beings beyond the beyond out there somewhere.  Even what we consider to be ancient mythology has tale after tale of beings from outer space.  I don’t believe it can all be labeled as Sci-fi. So was Buck Rogers, rocketships and flying to the moon when I was just a little kid but it isn’t fiction anymore.  Truth be known, whether we want to admit it or not, we aren’t really all that smart or highly developed as we may believe we are.  There is greater intelligence than that of the human mind but not necessarily in the form of little green men from Mars or any other planet we know about.

I also know there has been and will probably continue to be strange phenomena zooming across our heavens, too many people have seen it, including myself, not to believe in the plausibility of the whole matter.  If we cannot explain it or identify it and it is flying over our heads, it is indeed a UFO (unidentified flying object). Such phenomena have been around since time began; refer to the ancient histories of the world.  (The wheel within a wheel with a thousand glowing eyes that lifted the Hebrew prophet Elijah to Heaven, yet he had not seen death; is an example that comes to mind.)  Aliens, spaceships, UFO’s and human perception and imagination; it makes for a good story, fact or fiction.

It was the spring following the assignation of President John F. Kennedy that I saw it, this strange object in the night sky above me, a something that appeared to have hundreds of pulsating eyes that glowed with the color of aquamarine and emerald.  It was sort of cigar shaped and then as it hovered and then tipped before it zoomed off it looked more like a Mexican Hat in shape.  There wasn’t a sound anywhere around, no traffic at that hour, no church bells chiming, not even a dog barking or the chirp of a sleepy bird.  Even the silence felt eerie.

Whatever it was, I’d never seen the likes of it before and it gave me an eerie feeling as I walked home from my job at two o’clock in the morning.  It intrigued me and I couldn’t take my eyes off it and yet I had the sensation I wanted to get away from it.

We all know our government and its agencies has a lot going on that they don’t tell the general public about until after the fact and maybe not until a very long time after the fact…government secrets, supposedly for our own good, that protect us from foreign agents and perhaps alien beings and maybe even our self.  We don’t really know what is going on or what may be out there somewhere but we humans, the general public do have vivid imaginations that we nurture and the government feeds on and into to steer us away from the truth; whatever that may be.    

I worked for a company at that time that was doing some highly sensitive work for the government and was working as a mapmaker.  We who were assigned to this particular project worked at night and worked late behind locked doors.  I only lived a short distance from my place of work and I frequently chose to walk home.  It gave me a chance to unwind so I would be able to go home, go to bed and not disturb the already sleeping household.  Walking after dark or even very late at night didn’t frighten me in those days, no red flags of warning; however, there was something very strange about what I was seeing and about this night. It wasn’t the normal night sky I had viewed night after night as I walked home from work.    

Did I see some strange spaceship from outer space, aliens coming to pay us a visit?  I don’t know.  I know it wasn’t a weather balloon.  It wasn’t a hovering helicopter.  It made no sound, no sound at all that I could hear.  If it was making any sound at all, the decibels were either too high or too low for the human ear to define.  Was it some secret government project our government was testing at the time?  Maybe, but I don’t know that either.  What I do know is that I saw a UFO, unidentified flying object.  I didn’t know what it was. 

I can remember the incident and picture the object in my mind just as clearly today as I saw it on that spring night in 1964.  It was one of those perfect nights; high, clear sky filled with a zillion stars, cool but not cold, almost no breeze at all, the air was still and peaceful and then I saw it and the night took on a sense of the unreal, an eeriness that gave me a chill and I couldn’t wait to get home and inside my house and to safety from whatever it may have been yet it had given me no justifiable reason to be afraid.  

I truly believe there is greater intelligence than that of the human mind out there somewhere and even right here among us, unrecognized, unseen, undiscovered but not necessarily in the form of little green men from Mars or any other planet we know about.

The closing lines depict nature being destroyed by man in the 1970’s – a prophetic vision given that the song was issued just as the decade was commencing. Young has changed this to the 80’s, 90’s and Noughties in later releases and performances, keeping the line as contemporary as possible.

The second verse moves to a more realistic depiction of soldiering and violence. The narrator is in the wreckage of a bombed out building. It seems to be the position he has been given orders to maintain, and he is hoping that his replacement will arrive soon to relieve him, but there seems to be some kind of delay. It is night. He can see the Moon, but then he can suddenly see the Sun instead. It seems to be the fire-flash of a large explosion, most likely a nuclear one. The band he imagines himself hearing might be a rock band or a religious one playing a requiem to dying humanity. The singer reflects on a friend’s words that he had refused to believe but now fears might be coming true. This might well be a prediction someone gave him of the imminent end of the World, which he had dismissed as unrealistic or just rumour mongering. Now he is seeing it come true.

The final chapter depicts an unusual Judgement Day, in which the spaceships land, arriving as fantastically as the medieval knights of the earlier vision. There are many distressed children, and a select group of humans are given a new start with the aliens. The ships fly off sunwards. We are told that all of this is a dream.

The Sun is a recurring theme, the narrator sees all this as though not a part of it. He has no connection to the stories of his childhood. He sees no romance or chivalry in his burnt out basement, and he seems to be a witness to the extra-terrestrial gods aiding an evacuation rather than anyone invited to go.

The song has become something of an anthem for the Space aliens as God cults that still abound. Erich Von Daniken’s claims that ancient monuments such as the pyramids of Egypt were built by aliens and a diet of UFO related science fiction has led some to believe that aliens will arrive like angels to save them from the nuclear holocaust the rest of us will be left to suffer. The song captures some of that mood, with the singer not being one of the fortunate (?) chosen few.

An odd but beguiling song, with even its title unexplained or even referenced in the lyrics. The Klondike gold rushes left many people poor and bereft, and bitterly disillusioned. Humanity’s race will ultimately end in death for most, with few people feeling satisfied with what they gained in life. For many, the rush for capital is akin to the hysteria of the gold rush, with all its greed and madness and violence, but few of its rewards.

Sightings of UFOs skyrocket in 2012

The first week of 2012 UFO reports piled in from all around the world, numerous eyewitnesses describe and videotaped odd things up in the sky.

The largest UFO investigative organization in the world called the Mutual UFO Network received tons of reports of UFOs throughout the first week of the new year 2012 from people in 36 of the 50 states. 

MUFON recorded around 500 reports of sightings for the entire month of January 2011, and for the first week of 2012 the have already recorded 233 sightings.

Most UFOs turn out to be explainable objects , but there is always the small remainder of the unexplained.

The Nazca
lines in Peru, South America, are an intriguing site to behold and one of the
wonders of the world.  Nobody, it seems,
knows why they were created.  Several
