The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the US. It provides the framework for the organization of the US Government. It was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later ratified by conventions in each US state in the name of “The People”.

The US Constitution has been amended 27 times, the first ten amendments being known as the Bill of Rights.

Since 1789, members of the Congress have proposed about 10,000 amendments to the constitution. Here are some unusual amendments that congress did not approve.

One of the most unusual amendments was proposed in 1893: This proposal is to rename the United States of America – the United States of the Earth but it was not approved by the congress

The second peculiar amendment which was proposed in 1914 is to make divorce illegal. What could be the possible effects and implications of this amendment to the American society if it was approved by the US Congress?

In 1916, it was proposed that all acts of war be put to a national vote. Those who vote “yes” must register for military service.

1833 was the year when one of the most unusual amendments in the US Constitution was proposed: To limit personal wealth to $1 million. On my personal point of view, this amendment should be applied universally.

To give Americans the right to a pollution free environment was an amendment in 1971 that was not approved. I think economic progress could not be possible if this amendment was approved.

And lastly, an amendment to ban the burning of the US flag has been proposed several times. I believe that no flag by any nation should be burn. Flag is the symbol of a country and it should be respected by everybody.
