In the Windsor Heights suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, one can find what is believed to be the only sculpture on earth created – supposedly to scale and in extraordinary detail – of what the creator claims to be an adult specimen of the legendary creature commonly known as Bigfoot.

Clifford LaBrecque, 73, commissioned the sculpture as long ago as 1976, claiming that it three months were needed to get it from his head into that of the sculptor, the fiberglass-and-fur model costing $9,000 at the time, and according to the owner, accurate in every detail

This striking model, dominating his dining room at 8 feet tall supposedly depicts accurately what the 73 year old recalls of sightings and an actual physical encounter on June 18, 1977, between 9-10 p.m. near a woodpile behind his house.

LaBrecque claims to have observed, before the scuffle, on most nights a Bigfoot specimen that was on occasion accompanied by what appeared to be two juveniles. He argued with a Des Moines newspaper over Bigfoot photographs copyright should the newspaper act on his tip and obtain photographs, having decided that, on June 18th he would shoot the larger Bigfoot.

It had been in 1977 that he first laid eyes on Bigfoot, one night looking into his back yard to see what he thought was the neighbour’s dog on the wood pile, till he realized that height of the wood meant the creature must be something much bigger.

That set a series of sightings in motion that would lead him to spend countless nights looking for more evidence of the creatures.  He does fully understand that some people are very skeptical, though he has a video which he refuses to make public, swearing blindly that it is of the creature in the natural habitat.

There was a showing of his  Bigfoot model at the 1977 Iowa State Fair, and it did indeed attract many visitors, some of whom told stories of their own Bigfoot sightings.  LaBrecque himself has been the subject of ridicule for creating the Bigfoot model before actually seeing it, though to him that sighting merely confirmed all that he had previously heard..

This Bigfoot story has only come to light again because a news reporter showed renewed interest in the creature, sighted four years ago, supposedly in a rural area near West Plains. To this man, and many others, Bigfoot really does exist, but how you feel about this legend only you can decide.

Beyonce was first a member of the all girl group Destiny’s Child before she broke out into her mega solo career. This group was signed to Colombian Records in 1997. This group had numerous problems including lawsuits and members left due to a negative vibe within the group. 

Beyonce first album Dangerously In Love was released in June of 2003. It had a slew of hit singles including “Crazy In Love” and “Baby Boy”. 

Beyonce is one of the most marketable artists in the music industry. She has quite the acting career, and product endorsement lineup. 

During the turmoil of Destiny’s child Beyonce has admitted to being depressed. She was also publicly attacked by the media for causing the split up. Her boyfriend (From 12-19) also split up with her during this time. Her depression was very severe and lasted a couple of years, she would lock herself in her bedroom and refused to eat anything. She didn’t want to speak out about her depression because Destiny’s Child had just won a Grammy Award so she thought that no one would take her seriously. 

Beyonce has been in a relationship with rapper Jay Z since 2002 and together they have collaborated on numerous singles. Beyonce and Jay Z are a very private couple and hide anything to do with the relationship. In April 2008 the couple were married in New York city but Beyonce did not show her wedding ring until September 2008. She only announced their marriage in an opening montage for a listening party for I am … Sasha Fierce.

To have a clear understanding on this research, one must fully understand what the social web is. The social web holds the community characteristics of the internet. Another name that is frequently used in its place is social network. This community consists of websites such as YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, and Delicious. These sites permit individuals and groups to connect with one another from anywhere in the world. Each one offers different tools such as blogging, wikis, and private collaboration. These tools are creating an important alliance of how pupils learn and teachers teach, providing new methods of communication within the classroom (“Social Web,” n.d).

With the incline in using the social web, businesses have produced apparatuses that provide free sites for blogging and secluded social interacting sites. These implements are permitting the entire academic world to add to the constantly increasing virtual collection of data. At the present, it may seem as though the learning environment is being removed from the classroom and to the World Wide Web. While all these changes are taking place, some may argue that it may not be a good idea to change the techniques of learning and teaching that have been used for such a long time. Is the social web creating a vital sway in the way educators demonstrate their lessons, and pupils acquire their education? Looking at some of these sites individually may help answer this question.

First, it is important to view the growth of these social websites based on monthly visitors. Understanding the popularity of these social sites and frequent ways they are used is an important factor for teachers when trying to make a connection with their students. While Facebook seems to be the most popular, followed closely by YouTube, the other websites chosen have remained on the top of the most frequently visited list.

           YOUTUBE

Established in February 2005, YouTube permits billions of individuals to learn, share and view uniquely created videos. It also offers a forum for anyone who would like to bond, advise, and encourage others around the world. YouTube is a sharing platform for unique content designers and promoters of any size scale (“About youtube,” 2005). In 2009, YouTube extended its services with YouTube EDU. This allowed colleges and universities to upload their videos for educational purposes.

A quick search around YouTube can reveal a multitude of videos. This contains videos that can cover every topic imaginable for students. However, it is important for teachers to examine the source of the video. Since anyone with an account can create and upload a video, some of these videos may present false information or copyright material. Nonetheless, utilizing YouTube videos in a classroom and creating your own discussion in reference to the videos can be very beneficial to the lesson an instructor is teaching. Not only by viewing these videos will it help the class learn, but creating their own video then uploading it can have huge educational benefits as well.

When being used in the classroom, homeschool, or for homework, YouTube can assist in bringing a basic lesson plan to life. These video clips encourage creativity and imagination, which is something anyone at any age can benefit from in an educational environment. Everyday could be like a field trip without leaving the desk. A wonderful example of this scenario is a video named “HD Journey through the universe” (utzutzutz90, 2009).  A YouTube user, utzutzutz90, uploaded  the video to YouTube and edited with words and music, but it was originally produced via NASA under the name “Cosmic Origins Spectrograph: Large Scale Structure of the Universe”(McClare & Bacon, 2008). This video will allow students to take a trip through the the universe while reading specifics.

Concluding on the topic of YouTube, it may require extra effort for the teacher, but using the interaction to visually stimulate ones imagination may prove to be worth it in the end. While it may be one step closer to advancing education toward a more technological phase; it only gives the impression of supplementing material used in educating students. It will not change the aspect of the classroom by itself. However, it can be considered as one part of the puzzle that will be credited for changing the future of education.

FACEBOOK

Originally, Facebook was started for college students to connect with one another; nonetheless, it has grown into a network that people of all ages have come to enjoy. This has allowed its advantageousness to cultivate as well. Many educational institutes still remain cautious of utilizing such websites as Facebook within their classrooms. Some educationalists have come to realize that facebook can be very influential within the classroom as a compliant educational device, such as instructor Elizabeth Delmatoff from Portland, whom noticed a 50% rise in grades after employing this social web platform in her classroom (”50 reasons to,” 2011). Many people use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family or to stay updated on the social front for weekend activities, but instructors may use Facebook for class projects, improving communication, and making academics more appealing to students in a method that might not be completely probable in customary classroom settings (”100 ways you,” 2009).

Facebook is fortified with instant messaging, bulletin boards, email, and the capability to support pictures and videos. Providing teachers with a new way to engage with their students may be one of the finest features Facebook has to offer academically. Teachers can create groups so that the whole class can interact and remain updated on assignments. Posting notes that pertain to classwork or homework can be handled quickly and there will be no worries about any students falling behind due to being absent. A teacher can interact easier one-on-one with students via email, and students can connect alike. It also allows them to stay updated on school events if their school has a facebook page. Facebook offers teachers opportunities by which pupils can assist and support each other by colaborating on the community that has been chosen by the students.

In conclusion, Facebook, similar to Youtube, may require extra effort for the teacher, but using theis method to collaborate with students outside of the classroom may prove to be worth it in the end. It cannot completely change the aspect of the classroom; however, by adding a more convient method of staying connected, facebook may be credited for changing the future of some parts of education. It is a collaboration tool that many teachers seem to be turning to and incorporating in their everyday lesson plans, as well as tutoring and homework assistance. It is a new and interesting way for students to relate to their teachers and classmates.

FLICKR

Flickr is an application used to share and manage your photos. The 10mb per month pacakage is free and you can upload photos from your phone, computer or email then organize them into catagories. Flickrs main feature allows you to construct groups that can be made public or private, and you can share your photos. This option is wonderful for teachers who are partaking in a collaborative activity with their class from anywhere in the world. Another feature that is great for education is that each group has an individual discussion panel, allowing pupils to make queries about the photos and have significant debates concerning the photos.

Flickr has masses of photos on their website, and unquestionably many methods can be used to integrate it into the classroom. The most apparent use of Flickr is to use it in the planning of classes that encourage and construct optical learning talents in pupils. Here are a small number of ways it may be used in the classroom:

• Innovative writing task with different images
• Construct Virtual field trips!
• Demonstrations about intellectual property rights with Creative Commons licensing.
• Utilize the Flickr slideshow feature as a substitute to PowerPoint.
• Produce digital portfolios.

The 23-year-old had been given permission to film a video for the song We Found Love in a muddy barley field owned by farmer Alan Graham.

He explained Tuesday, that he “didn’t know who was coming. If the name ‘Rihanna’ had been mentioned, well, no disrespect, but it wouldn’t have meant anything.”

However, Mr. Graham said when he went to get his tractor on Monday, September 26, and saw the singer stripping down to a bikini top; he stepped in to end the shoot.

Mr. Graham’s wife has shed more light on the incident revealing that Rihanna had gone topless. “What she was doing became more inappropriate when she started to go topless, that’s what her husband was objecting to … things were getting out of hand. There was a man as well, and the behavior was getting more inappropriate. It wasn’t the sort of thing Mr. Graham wanted young people to see on his land. (We) are Christians,” Mrs. Graham said. Mr. Graham said he “asked the film crew to stop, and they did.” He insisted that “there were no hard feelings.”

He added that he had a conversation with Rihanna they shook hands and parted company on good terms. H added that he found her very gracious and hoped she understood where he was coming from and wished her well.

I often wonder if the continuous release of sex tapes, music videos and naked pictures featuring artistes are attempts to stay in the spotlight that have gone too far.

I am especially ashamed of the bunch whose names have been making the rounds because this activity. Their talent is not what is making them the hot topic, it is instead the act. They are now being critiqued for their talent as porn stars rather than as entertainers.

I wonder if they are so desperate to make it, that they have chosen to lower themselves in the eyes of the public. Let us face it, artistes are admired as role models by many children and adults and what they are caught doing on these tapes and videos is disgraceful and leaves a lot to be desired.

Their fellow artistes, who keep quiet and allow this rotten few to misrepresent the industry are no better as they do not recognize that because of their silence, they are allowing themselves to be judged equally with them.

I know the entertainers could not be doing this if the society was not accepting of it. The widespread acceptance and interest in these pictures and videos only emphasizes how far gone we are as a society.

When we will get up and say enough is enough and yes the media in some cases has been the avenue putting it out there, but if you do not consume it, they will not do it. So it is full time that everybody recognize that they have a responsibility to play.

Becoming an adult does not only mean, you can do what you want when you want. It also means you need to be responsible, you need to have self respect, you need to put a value on your life and determine what you are willing to do to maintain this value.

Based on the low standards of some artistes by their actions in the business, I am beginning to feel that some entertainers have got it twisted and are selling themselves cheap to make money. There is a funny thing about cheap things though, they seldom last long.
