Two female officers into the United States Navy same-sex couples who perform traditional rituals “first kiss” in the dock since the U.S. end the ban on gays to be a soldier.

Marissa sergeant Gaeta, who just got off the ship after 80 days, win the lottery to be the first to give a kiss on her partner or known as the “Dockside kiss.”

The couple said the moment was “long awaited.”

Policy of “Do not Ask Do not Tell” repealed the U.S. armed forces last September, after a debate over the years.

That policy prevents men and women who admitted frankly that they are gay to serve in the military.

They cheered when the sergeant Gaeta, 23 years, down from the ship and kissing with her boyfriend, corporal Citlalic Snell, 22 years.

Gaeta told local media that the crew members perform traditional lottery before returning to the mainland to seek the names of “winners hugs and kisses first.”

The couple who met while training it to say happy because it could be open about their relationship.

“It feels good to be myself. This moment I had been waiting for,” the sergeant said Gaeta.

Snell said the corporal had told their partners about the kiss was a few days ago and he was “nervous but excited.”

“I’m a little nervous … But I have long waited for this moment since he left,” said Snell.

A Navy spokesman speaking to Reuters news agency that the military is “not too concerned things like that” but he was sure this was the first time the traditional kiss by lesbian couples.

“For the Navy, it was just a regular welcome,” said the lieutenant Sylvia Landis.

Individuals often want the opposite of what they have learned to accept as the norm. So when they are put in situations where they have to reach across socio-economic and racial lines as part of what they do there is a tendency to prefer to seek out situations where individuals of another race or socio-economic status are not going to be around. I’ve heard that self-segregation is more of an issue in the North than it is the South. I am not sure if that is necessarily the truth or not but I have noticed being in the Virginia Beach region of the South individuals seem to be more willing to reach across the line and are not as exclusionary as they are back in Ohio. Back home people may reach across the line because you are in the same socio-economic “station in life” as they are in, but they would do so begrudgingly. People did not really want to play nice, but they would because it was the right thing to do.

Now that puts me in a weird predicament, because I talk a good game but at the end of the day I still am not comfortable with it myself. Granted I have been here for three years, but there is still that part of me that is narcissistic and pessimistic that is looking for the worst to come out of a situation that rarely manifests itself in that way. People say that the suburban and exurban areas of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are racist; but my experiences suggest otherwise. On the contrary, these are cities that do not have the exposure to African-Americans that the other areas do. Though Chesapeake has a slum that it took from Norfolk that area seems to be more harmonious than others because people are in the same boat.

The last time I went back to Ohio it seemed as though things had changed a bit. The mentality and that unspoken, under the radar type of institutionalized racism I had experienced growing up does not seem to have been as profound as it was there. Of course I was in the Northern part of the state, and I remembered how overt the indifference was in the Southern part of Ohio. But I am still convinced that a lot of what you experience in Ohio, is that there is a general lack of diversity overall.

So I ask myself again how anyone can complain about racism when they are obviously more comfortable around their own. We live in an age where people are indifferent about racism. They do not support it, but they do not do anything to combat it either. They say that they have friends of other races and date people of other races but they feel more comfortable among their own race. They deal with people of other races that fit convenient stereotypes of what attracts them to someone of another race. They deal with those people that are going to play nice, as opposed to those stuck in the misanthropy and narcissism of mankind.

I am not speaking about Whites that have token Blacks around but also my own people that have narrow views of what people of other cultures and races are like as well. We want to see what we want to see, we do not want to take into context the full scope and breadth of what you may find and we do not want to see people for the individuals that they truly are. It is like if I get up and say that I like rock music or techno and you ask me about it and I talk about commercial artists. I am not that deep into it and should not come across as though I am, but I am curious so I deal with what is safe. I do not get as deep into your culture as I could, and you don’t try to pull me in any deeper than where I am willing to tread.

There is a lot that we can learn from each other. But if we continue to go out of our way to stay amongst our own we will never truly learn anything from that other individual. We like to stay in our comfort zone, as much as we preach that this is 2010 it still feels like 1980 …

Osama killed by SEAL operation on 1 May in Abbottabad, Pakistan. He was shot twice in the chest and head. Invasion was also killed four others, including bin Laden’s son, Khalid, 22 years old.

Gates also acknowledged the death of bin Laden, accused of masterminding the attacks of 11 September 2001-has raised concerns for the safety of the most elite troops in the American army. “They expressed concern about it, especially their families,” Gates said.

Therefore, he stated the Department of Defense will increase the security of members of SEAL Team 6 and their families. He asserted that threats to the safety of personnel already SEAL arise because so much information about the team in the media.

In fact, the public and the press already know the SEAL base in Virginia Beach area. As recognition of former members of SEAL Team 6, Don Mann. He told never approached 25 journalists who want to question him about the identity of the six team members who participated in the City of Osama hideout raided Abbottabad, Pakistan.

“I hope they stop. We will only damage the SEALs, “he said.

Its members were awarded last night by President Obama. However, nobody knows who they are.

U.S. Navy has a base near Virginia Beach. In the city I live thousands of soldiers and their families. Among them six misterosii Seal commando members, who play out of Osama bin Laden. No one here even knows who they are.

Most of the time, Special Forces members are ordinary people who go to restaurants, shopping, to train their children.Until they are summoned for a mission. And then, even their wives do not know much.

Forming a SEAL member takes years and only a quarter of those who start taking him to stage manage again.

So if the Philadelphia Eagles lets go of Michael Vick because they do not want the drama that comes along with him I would not be surprised. I will give Michael Vick the benefit of the doubt, and I will also give the Philadelphia Eagles the benefit of the doubt because Michael Vick is just one more punching bag as is every celebrity that has made enough money to get out of this place and make a good living for themselves can be when times are rough. That is an issue in and of itself, but talk of him opens up old wounds and draws new correlations of issues surrounding race and bad behavior.

I have to think that Michael Vick is a victim of circumstances. Those same circumstances, that in any other hood, you could just simply “not snitch” and be absolved of can be a deal breaker for an athlete of his stature. Perhaps he does not realize that he can no longer hang out with the same people that he hung out with when he was growing up. Perhaps we are hypocritical for wanting or expecting more from Michael Vick, perhaps we are being too hard and too difficult of him. Perhaps we should accept the fact that while he is an athlete, he is human.

When I hear about Michael Vick I think that he didn’t do it, but may have known of it, but was never directly involved but was always involved because he always turns a blind eye. I think about a kid from Newport News that defeated the odds and probably proved everyone that said he would never be anything. I think about someone who should be able to go back to Newport News and hand out stuffed animals at birthday parties and turkeys at Thanksgiving. Someone Newport News can point at and name a street after. Someone who would own a lot of real estate in the area and own a few businesses as other athletes from around here do.

But instead I have to be reminded of the ugliness and angst of this town. He has become the O.J. Simpson of Virginia; an athlete that means well, but is not too bright and will always be guilty through association. No one can prove that O.J. killed his wife, but no one wants to believe that he had no knowledge of how she was killed either; after all she disrespected him and gave him every reason to kill him by spending up his money and having an “affair” with the pool boy.  That sounds audacious, but this is one of the conversations one has with those who believe that he did it (or one of the theories as to how he could have had someone else do it).  Michael Vick may be the right guy in the wrong profession, so I will get the minuate of every little thing Michael Vick does, because he is from here, while the major news outlets will occasionally report on his “comings and goings”. Hopefully this is the last I have to hear about Michael Vick for some time …

Grace Sherwood was a midwife, a healer and a friend to children and animals. Her neighbors thought she also was a witch who ruined crops, killed livestock and conjured storms. She was born in 1660 the daughter of a carpenter and the wife of a planter in the county of Princess Anne, a wife and mother of 3 sons. The town decided she should be tried by ‘dunking’. This entitled her thumbs being tied to her big toes and being tossed into the Lynnhaven River off of what is now known has Witchduck point on July 10th 1706 at 10am. The theory was if she floats she was guilty as water was pure and would reject un-pure souls. If she was innocent she would sink and also drown. Sherwood floated and was then imprisoned for 8 years and then released once she was able to pay the back taxes on her property. She worked the farm and stayed there until her death in 1740 at the age of 80.

On July 10th 2006 the 70th Governor of Virginia, Timothy M Kaine released Grace Sherwood of her conviction.

The following statement was released by the mayor and put on a plaque under Grace’s Statue.

“I am pleased to join the Mayor of Virginia Beach in extending best wishes as you work to promote justice in the 1706 “Witch Ducking” case of Grace Sherwood. With 300 years of hindsight, we all certainly can agree that trial by water is an injustice. We also can celebrate the fact that woman’s equality is constitutionally protected today, and women have the freedom to pursue their hopes & dreams. The historical records that survive indicate that Ms. Sherwood, a midwife and widowed mother of three, survived her “trial by water” in 1706. Those records also indicate that one of my predecessors, Governor Alexander Spotswood, eventually helped her reclaim her property. The record also indicates Ms. Sherwood led an otherwise quiet and law abiding life until she died at the age of 80. Today, July 10, 2006, as 70th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I am pleased to officially restore the good name of Grace Sherwood. Sincerely, Timothy M. Kaine, Governor, Commonwealth of Virginia”
The statue was erected due to the efforts of Belinda Nash who has also worked to clear Grace Sherwood’s name and was the one who brought the case before the governor.
