Iran, Israel, and the International Atomic Energy Agency
At the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting this week in Vienna, the leading powers of the world again refused Israel’s entreaty to place serious sanctions on Iran to encourage them to stop building nuclear weapons. Despite the IAEA report last week that clearly revealed Iran’s purposes and goals to be military, the body only issued a negative statement, declining to ask the UN Security Council to even consider sanctions.
Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Ambitions
The news this year has been filled with stories about war. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report revealed that Iran is definitely working on a nuclear weapons program; enriching uranium to a high level and conducting tests that have no civilian application. It is unclear how the world will react, but the expectation of an Israeli attack to halt Iran’s progress has increased dramatically.
