Time to kill? Feel the need to procrastinate? Ha, I don't blame you. Need a laugh? Well here are some gaming sites, comics and more.

Well you’re at the right place. So don’t sit there and twiddle your thumbs. Here is a collection of many time-waster sites to help speed up that drag you call work/school.

But before you embark on your journey of procrastination, here is an extract from the Book about Lawn Gnomes:

“Once upon a time, there was this guy. This guy was very sad. He was so sad that he decided to go out into his front yard and seize his lawn gnome. He stared at it for at least 45 minutes. He then smashed it with an umbrella. He suddenly felt happy. The guy went and published his book, “Happiness Through Lawn Gnomes.” Millions of people bought it. It didn’t work. They then smashed it with an umbrella. Many people tried to publish, “Happiness Through Books About Happiness Through Lawn Gnomes,” but only one four year old girl did. Millions of people bought that book. It didn’t work. So everybody stuffed their books in shoeboxes and flooded the guy and the girl’s houses with billions of books. But they had lawn gnomes and books about them, so they lived on in happiness for eternity.”

This section of randomness was shoved upon the internet without warning on Saturday, April 25, 2003.
Now, for the sites!

Sites ~

Youtube – ah, this place is beloved for its hours and hours of entertainment. Very popular site (you must living underneath a rock underneath another rock, not to know this one)

Link: http://www.youtube.com/

Xkcd – comic site for the mildly intelligent. Humour similar to that of the “Big Bang Theory” television show. Updates reguarly.

Link: http://www.xkcd.com/

Fuck My Life – pissed off at the world? You’re not alone. Here, you can vent all you like. Its also kind of funny reading how everyone elses’ day has been nothing but a mess (horray for schadenfreude?).

Link: http://www.fmylife.com/

My Life Is Average – the opposite of the popular fml site. Perhaps a parody site? I may have to look into that. Definitely worth visiting.

Link: http://mylifeisaverage.com/

Omegle – chat site where you are randomly matched with a random stranger and have a conversation. No need to make up a fake name or provide any personal details (like email address). Just go on, click “text” (unless you want a video chat – not recommended.) and soon you’ll be having some of the most pointless conversations in your life. Yay.

Link: http://omegle.com/

The Oatmeal - great site! Kind of similar to xkcd in its use of “computer humour” but also contains much more. This has a much broader audience and will definitely grant you a laugh, or at least the slightest of giggles. What do you have to lose?

Link: http://theoatmeal.com/

Games ~

Bloons Tower Defence! (1 to 4):

One of the most addictive flash games I’ve played. Good luck finishing! The ads are a little annoying though.

Link: http://www.ninjakiwi.com/Games/Tower-Defense/Bloons-Tower-Defense.html

*Others sequals to first Bloons Tower Defence are found in the related area and it would be pointless for me to post them all up here.

**And yes, I know this isn’t the original “Tower Defence” game but it has shooting monkeys in it and is therefore that much more awesome.

Fishy:

Eat small fish, stay away from big fish. Get bigger, eat more fish. Pretty fun the first couple times you play it.

Link: http://www.xgenstudios.com/play/fishy

More to come.

If you would like anything to be improved (since I’m fairly new to this internet page designing thing), please leave a comment and I’ll be happy to try make the site much better. Feel free to leave feedback as well and please click the “I like it” button if you found this mildly interesting. It really helps.

Cheers and happy time-wasting =)

Legal Junk:

Thank to “http://supergiantbream.tripod.com/id1.html” for providing the extract on Lawn Gnomes.

I do not claim to be the creator of any of the games found on this site nor the owner of any of the websites listed above.

The majority of credit should definitely go to the writers and designers found on these links and the creators of the games and the game-hosting sites for sharing it with internet users everywhere.

The main purpose of this site is to help gather all these sites from hours of googling, so it can be conveniently found all on the one site.

This is for all the men and boys. If you do not know that you are wasting time, check out this list and see if you really are or not.

Any weather small talk that lasts longer than four seconds (unless it involves a car floating away). If you have nothing to talk about other than the weather, face it, you have nothing to talk about.

Three dates. No tongue.

Two years. No raise.

The person running the meeting asks, “Could someone get the lights?”

You hit triple digits on the TV remote, decide to cycle through once more, and realize that What Women Wants is still the best option.

You spend more than an hour and a half ing timea day in the gym. What’s the point of building all those muscles if you don’t get out once in a while and use them?

You’ve been introduced to someone three times, and he still doesn’t remember your name. Don’t be angry. Just smile and let him know you’ve met several times, and you remember him well, you now own his ass.

She says it’s enough to have seen the Statue of Liberty in London.

Image via Wikipedia

You try to forget how much your ex-girlfriend made your laugh, or how much your ex-boss made you cry-as if selectively erasing major parts of your life were possible without being kidnapped by a government agency.

The speaker says, “Please hold your applause until I finish reading all the names.” Break out your Blackberry, get something done.

You watch any movie featuring a mischievous kid who advises adults.

She asks during first conversation, ‘So what do you like to do for fun?” which is the single dumbest question that ever be asked of a person. My advice: just smile and answer, “It’s not what, but who.”

You look at your watch during any activity. Either find something you really want to do or stop wearing a watch.

You give your honest feedback to someone who says, “I want your honest feedback.”

You read any e-mail with the subject line “This is not a hoax.”

You allow someone more than three minutes to try to change your opinion. If he can’t do it in that window, says, “Look, John, you’re not going to change my view here, so let’s stop pissing away valuable minutes and talk about something else.” (Except the weather, of course.)

A useful skill for that annoying English project! Warning, do not enter if you like to write boring essays.

I’ve been writing for a little while now, and I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone grows into a different type of writer. Some people describe every minute detail in their writing. Others give you just a general idea of what’s going on and leave the rest up to you for your imaganation. I’ve found that a lot of people grow to write the type of writing you read and enjoy the most.

I read a lot of science fiction books. Right now, I have so many science fiction books checked out from the local library, that if i were to go on a trip and wanted to read something new, all I would have to do would be to snatch a random book off my desk.

Personally, I enjoy writing things that have almost no importantance, at any time, whenever the mood hits me. I may not have the best writing, or the fastest typing, or anything else remarkable going on for me, but I enjoy trying to do what I do. For example, right now.

The art of talking without saying anything is a largely misunderstood skill. It takes time and patentince to pull it off… In the last few seconds… or minutes ( depending on how slow you read) I’ve been teaching you everything you need to know about writing without saying anything. A useful skill for any of you who really don’t want to spend the time writing anything ground breaking.

I think that over all article was probably a big waste of your time, but I hope you’ve learned what you need to defy teachers around the globe!

Is there a sure fire way to achieve happiness?

What is happiness? The dictionary defines it as “the quality or state of being happy”. But are being happy and having happiness really the same thing? You could be happy that you got what you wanted for Christmas, but will this bring you happiness? Happiness is generally a lot deeper and more meaningful than just being happy. Happiness is a long term state of being content with what you have and what you have done.

There is no clear cut way to achieve happiness, but many things can help.

Volunteer Work- People always tell you that giving is better recieving, but it really is. Getting involved in volunteer work in your community gives you a sense of satisfaction. Helping others less fortunate than you can make you realize how fortunate you are, which will add to your state of happiness. It can also help you to make good friends!

Spend more time with family and friends….. Spending more time with family and friends can give you a sense of belonging which is what many people need in order to achieve happiness. Have family party or invite some friends over and start up some good conversations.

But don’t forget about yourself. A little bit of me-time each day gives you a chance to think about things and do things that you enjoy to do by yourself. Play a game, take a nap, or just sit and meditate like the Buddhists who’s goal in life is reach Nirvana, or ultimate happiness, by giving up selfish desires.

Be productive…..Do something worthwhile often. Read a book, practice an instrument, or exercise. All these can contribute to happiness because you can improve in all of them through your own hard work, not something given to you.

But don’t be afraid to waste time. Sometimes a day to just sit around is what someone needs to feel better. Watch some old movies, play a nerdy video game, or just hang out. Like Betrand Russel said, “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”.

The truth is that there is no actual “guide to happiness”. Happiness won’t find you, you have to go find it. And sometimes you’ll find it hiding in the strangest places.

While accompanying my girlfriend in her shopping, I enjoy watching other people to see if they are lurking shoppers. A lurking shopper is one who only stroll around without the intention of buying. Here are three key determinants in spotting a lurking shopper.

Not in a hurry

When you see a shopper walking in slow motion, this shows he’s not into buying anything. He is just letting time to pass and he fears he would have covered the whole building if he would walk at normal pace.

Doing something with the phone

Non-buyers would most likely stop at a nook and do something with their mobile phones. And more often than not, they are not really calling or sending messages. They are just checking for new messages, browsing through old photos or playing a game. Again, just to waste time.

Looking at people

A clear determinant of a lurking shopper is they are not checking out the products. You would most likely spot them looking at people more times longer than looking at a product. They are not interested in the products. They find it more worthwhile to find cool girls or classy guys.

These characteristics are more obvious on novice shoppers. More experienced buyers knows how to look interested even if they not bying and are just waiting time. Are you a novice or an experienced shopper?

Now you know how a lurking buyer is eyed. If I would find you doing these acts, it would clearly mean you are a novice shopper.

Do you know other characteristics of a lurking shopper?

If you are one of those people who likes to waste time online at work, you are not the only one out there. There are many people, me included, who waste time doing unproductive stuff online while they are supposed to be doing something for their company. If they know that they are wasting time, why do they still continue to do that? Here are some of the reasons why people waste time online at work.

Boredom

Boredom could be a result of not having enough to do. If you are at work and there is little work to be completed, then you will definitely look for other things to do like playing Solitaire or Sudoku online. Both are, needless to say, very addictive!

Not Challenging Enough

If your job is not challenging enough for you, you may find that your brain starts to deteriorate and needs to be constantly rejuvenated in other ways. For instance, you may be more challenged to play games online and win, just to create excitement in your life.

Long Hours

Most of us work 8-9 hours in a day, some longer. That is a long period of time to concentrate on just work. There will be moments when you feel that you need to take a break from the tasks at hand and turn your attention to something else, just so that you will be refreshed by the change of tasks. Thus, you turn to checking your e-mails every few moments or some other online time-wasters.

Underpaid

Some people feel that they are overworked and underpaid. Thus, they seek to address the issue in the way they could manage, without actually losing their job. Use company’s resources to do other time-wasting things such as searching for another job online.

More Fun

At times, work is just not fun enough. After awhile, you may find that you need to get through the day, just to get your salary at the end of the month. It becomes a chore. To make it less of a burden, you seek something fun to do online while at work such as checking out YouTube, looking for jokes and other value-less content online, or super-poking your friends on Facebook.

Unproductive Moments

There will be moments at work when you have a dearth of ideas or unproductive moments. You can’t seem to settle down to do what you are supposed to do. During these period of time, you can disguise your time-wasting online activities by saying that you are actually doing research or looking for ideas to complete your project. That gives you the go-ahead to hang out at forum or chat rooms.

The Thrill of Breaking the Rules

You are simply thrilled that you are flouting the company’s rules and regulations. You are waiting to see if you will get caught by your employer for wasting time at work. As many people do, you often pretend to be doing work when actually you are just wasting time online. You laugh at the stupidity of your employer for being a fool, thinking that you are really doing your work.

Whatever your reasons to waste time online, you know that you ultimately have a choice whether to continue or to stop your activities before you are caught. We all know that it’s wrong and we all are prepared, to a certain extent, to take bear the consequences of our actions. Good luck and happy wasting time!
