This is my first post, so I am going to describe myself.

Hi, I’m new to Triond, and my name is Daniel. I am 18 years old. I am straight edge, which means I do not partake in drugs, tobacco, alcohol, or sex without love. I have an awesome girlfriend named Miranda. I listen to indie, hardcore, punk, and lots of other types of music. My favorite band is Have Heart. I like to read comic books, and I do like video games. But, I’m not a typical “nerd”. I love playing sports. I like to be adventurous and spontaneous. I’m willing to try almost anything. I like to keep active. I work out, and my favorite sport is soccer. But, I like playing all other sports. I live in West Virginia, and I hate it. My favorite video game is the Fallout series. My favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Workaholics, Wilfred, Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, and Angry Boys. I don’t watch much TV though, just on occasion. I’m starting college this year and I’m going into the psychology field. My favorite food is pancakes. I love sweet tea. I hate school. I can’t stand rednecks or anyone ignorant. I’m agnostic. My biggest pet peeves are racist and homophobic people. I hate when people are proud of their ignorance. I am very open-minded. I just hope to make something of myself someday.

“Haunted School of Terror” & The Halloween Maze.

First year haunt “Haunted School of Terror” located at 2850 Weir Ave. in downtown Weirton. Need to be check out. At first I didn’t know what to think. I mean I saw a sign on US 22 West. So I started to look around the internet to find more information. All I found was direction on how to find 2850 Weir Ave. We set out to find the location which was easy.

The “Haunted School of Terror” is the former Dunbar School. Also the home of Krazy ’bout Sportz. They have a wonderful indoor facility. Krazy ’bout Sportz has a variety of sports activities and entertainment for adult and kids alike. The only indoor facility that offers soccer, flag football, field hockey, lacrosse, bocce, basketball. Plus an arcade room, concessions, concerts, dances and now a haunted attraction. Unfortunately, the haunting season is short this year. October 21,22,28, & 29, 2011 only.

Even though its a short season. This is a MUST SEE! This tour starts out with the rhyming janitor, and a elevator ride to the second floor. Where you may run into little Johnny Rotten former student of the school.
A lot of clergy lately have been caught doing things with little kids or teenagers that are underage and not consential.

The Rev Laneer Fisher from the Miracle Church of God in Aliquippa, PA. was recently convicted and found guilty for having unlarul contact with a teenage boy. He was found guilty of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor.

Assistant District Attorney Justin Quinn said, ” The jury got it right. The jury saw what we saw. We believed him (the victim) all along.

The victim who is remaining unamed testified that the Rev rubbed his hand under the victims shirt on his torso and kissed him.

The Rev said he was like a father figure to the victim and some other boys in his church. He said how much attention to each member of the Church depended on the person’s need. If a certain member of his church had problems with something in their lives, he said he would spend more time in meeting and counseking sessions with that person.

The victim has since left that Church. But two boys who were still in the Church said they and the victim went on a trip and did activities with the Rev and he never kissed or touched them. They say he treated them all with respect.

The Rev had support of people who testified for for him including an elder of the church and Bishop Sterling Porter who runs a network of Churches in West Virginia and maryland. Both the elder, Love Collins say his reputation is honesty. Bishop Porter drove 3 1/2 hours to testify that in other schools and the people all thought he was honested and respected him.

The Rev’s lawyer said it seems strange that theu boy kept quiet for a year, then it took his mother 24 hours after that to call police. His lawyer plans an appeal.

This is an article about the direction of the US.

PRESIDENT OBAMA

There is a lot of people that are questioning the motives of President Barrack Obama. This presidency was different than many other elections. The economy was in shambles when President Obama took over in the office. I really think that he has did a good job, considering the shape the US was in, before he was elected. They gave most companies money and the economy has bounced back. There has even been some companies that have paid their bail out loan back, such as Ford. With the trouble he was left, Obama has persevered, in his effort to regain control on the markets. Even though he is a young President, I think his knowledge is beyond his years. But still, many things are left unknown. Where are we going? Is he the right person to lead us into the future?

I don’t agree with his Health Care Reform Bill. I think we should have the choice to pick which insurance we want. At some point in our lives, we will need coverage. If you look at other country’s as Great Britain, their people receive free coverage. I can’t understand why we can’t do the same. People all around the world, need health insurance. Everybody should be able to afford the type of insurance they need.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2011

With another year fastly passing by, we all wonder what lies ahead in the future. Are economy seems to be recovering but it’s not convincing. Economist say it could still be awhile before the economy gains strength. Most companies have relied on the Bailout Programs, in order to erase their loses. In return, the Obama Administration have spent trillions of dollars in this recovery process, only putting the US in more debt. The jobs are not coming along as expected and of course, the unemployment rate is still sky high. This is because the unemployed are more qualified then past years. There were a lot of college grads that lost their jobs during this last recession. Only naturally, they would want a job to at the least, compare to their last one. I really can’t blame them. If you don’t find a job in your profession, you have spent all that time there at your company for nothing. Until we can produce good paying jobs, we will always have a problem with the economy.

I think we should start with looking at our imports and exports. How is our country supposed to be able to make money when we buy more products from other countries? When you see a sticker on the item you purchased and it says China, your money is going there. I am not downing China or any other country. Until we start buying American, our country will struggle. We have the technology to match most products we buy from other countries.

For those who don’t think coal is important to our economy, your wrong. Coal is found in many of the US states such as Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Wyoming, and the Dakota’s. The US makes money off coal by selling it to other countries. In return, coal helps the economy. In West Virginia, a coal miner is paid really good money. Some miners make as much as doctors here. Also, the closer you are to coal, the lower your electricity is. When I lived in Arizona, I lived in a studio apartment. I paid $200.00 a month and I would not run the A/C that much. In West Virginia, I pay $50.00 a month for the same usage. I do understand that it had dangerous emissions for the atmosphere. We are currently studying ways to control these emissions from escaping to the atmosphere. Coal is not only important to these states, it is important to the whole country. Coal is a valuable source of income for America. We do use a lot of coal but we sell a lot as well.

USA AND OUR FUTURE

The United States of America and the world, do not see eye to eye. I think we are all in a vital point in time. We are in two wars that we can’t win. We are losing soldiers that we shouldn’t lose. This war has cost the US trillions of dollars. I salute those men and woman, that put their lives at risk, for standing beside their country. You all are brave and deserve everybody’s praise, as well as our veterans. I just believe we can never stop every terrorist. They are to secretive and they are to many. We even have them living in our own backyards. Now with North Korea causing trouble, we stand at a crucial cross road. The US already has a full plate to work with. We need to take care of our own problems. We keep worrying about everyone else and we can’t solve our own issues.

When you look at the US economy, it is weak, despite recent gains. The people of America need good paying jobs. When people make good money, they have money to spend. The US needs to understand that the middle class puts the money into the economy. I say this because they are a higher percentage of middle class citizens.

I don’t blame anyone for trying to make what they can when they can. I want to share this with you. Last year, Walmart, made over 13 billion dollars in assets. Walmart cleared this much money in 2009. We all go to Walmart and usually, there is a store nearby. Well, I know the employees are not getting any of that, at least those that are not salary. The company could of least gave every employee a Christmas bonus. I will tell you what happened. The big shots kept the money. You have to take care of all your employees, when your company is doing that good. They have to understand, well care, about those who have made all of this possible. You could give every employee a dollar raise and it wouldn’t budge that 13 billion.

This is just an example of the reason the US will never be a global economy powerhouse, ever. These days, nobody wants to share the wealth. In the past, companies took care of their employees. They gave them vacations paid, medical insurance, bonuses, ect. Now, your lucky to have a job. As they always say,”The rich get richer and the poor get poorer”.

In conclusion, the big companies need to lead by example. This is the only way the US economy will be stable for everyone’s future. We need a big name company to start the ball rolling. For the past years, we all have seen the salaries of the big shots. It’s ridiculous. I am afraid, are good days are in the past. The future is about change and we all need it.

During a study done this past month, it was concluded that 44 states now have a higher unemployment rate under Obama, way worse then what we saw under George W. Bush. So how are we going in the right direction? Stocks had a great week but it has been up and down for the last year. Despite jobs being created, unemployment is worse. What about are debt? Both parties can’t come to a compromise to figure out how we are going to eliminate part of our national debt. Until we form ONE alliance and discard Party separation, we will never be the great nation we can be. Democrats, republicans, liberals, and independents; the list goes on. We should be standing united as one, but we are many separated. Until we change this fact, we will only fail. It is time to change. Our Constitution was created over 200 years ago. The times have changed. It needs revised to fit with modern times. When they created the Constitution, they were united as one. I am not sure it could be done today. It would probably take years if that was the case.

As we move toward 2012 Election, I can’t point out one contender to oppose Obama. More then likely, he will be elected again, unless some other candidate decides to run. Sarah Palin would have a better shot then the other runners. Obama promised change and what change did we get? Is Bin Laden enough to get him elected again? Bush did half of that job, right? I know personally, I have seen many jobs leave West Virginia since Obama took office. He will not win this state again. We have lost many jobs and this was the first census in awhile that the state actually gained residents. Coal mining jobs are high paying jobs and they allow you to provide for your family. They risk their lifes everyday to keep the lights on and the coal running. In return, the states residents have low power bills.

So where are we going? The US? I haven’t seen any positive numbers that would make me believe we are leaving the old and moving on. We are still in slight recession. Our stocks and trades are not stable. The dollar is still weak. Gold prices are very unstable. I look for them to level out again, but gold had a few days of large drops. There were jobs created last month in June, but how many have we lost in that time? When they tell you 15,000 jobs were created, there might have been 12,000 jobs lost. Yet, they say 15,000 instead of 3,000. They never tell you about the jobs lost. We need Obama and company to stable the jobs market. We need new companies created. We need new alliances. We have always been created. We need to apply this creativity to the market sectors. We need to research new technology so we don’t depend on others to provide it for us. There is so much that can be done, but nothing is being done. Our ideas have to pass through hundreds of personalities before ever being created. Look at Obama Care. Everyone deserves medical insurance, dental, and vision. But at what cost? Just as it was said many years ago, “the rich get richer”. Middle Class America is the backbone of the country. The small business man has suffered from billion dollar companies on every street corner. We have lost rich tradition and the phrase “hard work goes unnoticed”. We have lost our day of rest. We have lost affordable health care. We have lost many high paying jobs. We have lost what makes this country great. What else are we going to loose before we decide to stand up and believe in what is right, not what is demanded. Where do we go from here?

The Last Mountain.

There was another EU country than most cruelly mutilated in West Virginia? Its mountains are blown, its forests torn and thrown away and a new green land, the settlers discovered decades ago, now includes a wasteland is a million acres of dead and non-toxic. Nationally, one in 100 000 people have brain tumors. In West Virginia, surrounded by six neighbors opencast mines have developed brain tumors. What are the odds of that?

“The last mountain,” is a documentary brutal and angry about how things got to be such. It’s Coal River Mountain, the site of the last battle against Massey Energy, a company said to ignore environmental concerns, threatens the political process and poisoned large areas of the state on behalf of corporate profits. Now the lakes of mud work on cities, the rivers are dead or dying, and heavy metals invade the bloodstream and brain of its inhabitants.

Yes, we need coal. Yes, West Virginia has a lot of it, and once had many more. Coal is a major contributor to global warming, but only the words “global warming” is anathema to those whose minds have been bought and paid for by Big Energy.

I would like to see a comparison of money spent on (1) green energy (2) political pressure from a company such as Massey, the villain in “The Last Mountain.” Companies by their very nature exists to maximize profits. Their leaders are forced to take drastic measures to others. It’s how they work.

The villain in “The Last Mountain” is Don Blankenship, who was president and CEO of Massey FRA 2000 to 2010. He does not believe in climate change and energy once equated with communism. He was on his watch that 29 miners were killed in the explosion of the Upper Big Branch Mine Massey April 5, 2010. From Wikipedia: “In 2005, Blankenship wrote a memo to employees telling them to maximize the production of coal was more important than spending time to build things such as support beams or air ducts. “

Also from Wikipedia: “Since the contamination of groundwater by the injection of Massey Energy coal began to contaminate wells around the house Blankenship, Massey paid to build a water line at his home in a nearby town Blankenship did not offer to provide clean water to any of its neighbors .. “

He fits my idea of a bad man. My kind of heroine is Maria Gunnoe, a woman in West Virginia is one of the leaders of the campaign to defend the Coal River Mountain. Articulate and outspoken, has been transformed by the campaign.

A film like “the last mountain,” fills me with anger stirred. I have seen many documentaries of this type, all versions of the same story: when there is money to be at the expense of the environment is the environment that will suffer. And suffering is justified in denying global warming and the “defense of free enterprise.” I understand that businesses exist to make profits, but I think the government exists to regulate them.

Another hero in this film is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., traveling to West Virginia often in the name of environmental activists and puts pressure on Obama to turn some (not all) of the Bush administration attempts to weaken laws green.

But back to the fact that we need energy. As I watched the aerial views of the rugged landscape movie made by Massey and ugly, I thought something was missing. No, not just the trees and other living things. I would have liked to see some wind turbines.

Discusses a case where a ghosts accusation convicts her murderer.

In West Virginia during a murder case the testimony of the ghost of the murder victim as told to her mother was allowed to stand and helped convict a man of the murder.

Elva Zona Heaster Shue lived near Greenbrier West Virginia with her new husband, Trout Shue. He had moved to Greenbrier to start a business as a blacksmith. They meet, fell in love and married despite her mother’s opposition. Elva’s mother did not like Trout and did not want her daughter marring him.

On January 23, 1897, Elva’s body was found in her home by a boy sent to the house to ask if she needed her husband to bring anything from the store. The boy ran home to his mother after finding Elva’s body lying on the floor. The local physician and coroner was summoned but before he arrived Elva’s husband had moved her body up stairs to a bed and dressed her in her Sunday best cloths. While the doctor examined the dead woman her husband hugged her shoulders and head and cried. Out of respect for the grieving husband the doctor cut his examination short.

Elva’s body was laid out for her wake. The attendees observed extremely odd behavior of the husband who changed between extreme grief to almost manic energy to agitation. He did not want anyone near the body. When it came time for the body to be moved people noticed a strange looseness of the head. Tongues wagged and rumors started.

Elva’s mother prayed that her daughter would come back from the dead and tell her the truth of how she died. Within weeks her prayers were answered. On four nights Elva’s ghost reportedly appeared and described in detail how she was murdered. Her husband had been abusive and cruel, she said. He had attacked her in a fit of rage and broken her neck. To illustrate the ghosts head turned completely around on her neck.

Elva’s mother demanded an investigation from the prosecutor John Preston. It is not known if he believed the ghost story or the rumors that were flying around but an exhumation order was issued. An autopsy revealed a broken neck and a crushed windpipe from strangulation. There were no other marks on her body. Shue was arrested and charged with her murder, he pleaded not guilty.

Despite the fact that all the evidence against Shue was circumstantial the trial started in late June. Numerous people testified against Shue. The ghost story was inadmissible but the defense attorneys asked about it on the stand in an attempt to prove the mother was unstable which allowed the full ghostly accusation to be entered. Heaster repeated the ghost’s accusation that Zona’s neck had been squeezed off by Shue. The jury quickly found him guilty but voted for life in prison instead of the death penalty. He died in prison on March 13, 1900.

A highway historical marker near Greenbrier commemorates the case.

This is a story about Habitat for humanity and dresses. If you want to find out more, read on!

Habitat for Humanity Of Beaver County on Sunday April 17, 2011 had a dress sale to raise money at the First United Methodist Church in Rochester PA.

People from all over, people such as Weslie Allen, a mother for West Virginia. (An hour to 1 1/2 hour ride). Leslie wanted to buy a couple dresses for her daughter. But at $5 a dress Leslie picked out 14 and paid only $70 dollars , which is sometimes even less than a dress in a department store.. Leslie said ”This is going to be such a blessing for us-there’s no way we could afford these dresses if we were paying full price for them.

Dan Miller, the youth director of the Church said, “We get these dresses into the hahat need them and we earn some money for Habitat. He noted the dress sale and lunch afterwards brought in more than $1,400 for Habitat for Humanity.

Leslie may be from out of state, but some local girls also bought dresses. Two girls from Hopewell (PA) Area High school, Nikki D’Jovin and Olivia Hantz were there to find dresses for Hopewell’s Prom next month.

These dresses won’t go to waste. If there are any dresses left over, they will be used for other people such as Rochester PA Manor that later this spring is having a formal dance or given to a thrift store.

A lady from Rochester PA found a dress for her daughter at the sale , then added, “The last one we bought (dress) we bought her was on sale for $250. This is a much better deal.
