You Tired of Life? There Travel Services Suicide in Switzerland!

TRAVEL lumrahnya travel is to have fun spending leisure time. However, if the tour to commit suicide?

Although that sounds weird, but travel to commit suicide actually exist. And the city of Zurich, Switzerland became one of the city’s tourist destinations suicide.

Apparently, assisted suicide (assisted suicide) to make the citizens of Zurich sultry. Therefore, many foreigners come to town to commit suicide because of sucide assisted services in their countries.

Yet on the other hand the Swiss government is very respectful of human rights including the right to commit suicide.

Thus, the practice of assisted suicide in Switzerland has become a legal practice for decades.

To that end, on Sunday (15 / 5) citizens of the city of Zurich will follow a referendum relating to the suicide of this tour.

The first option is to prohibit the full practice of suicide this tour. Second, legalize it for the citizens of Zurich.

It seems that this second option that would win many votes.

A survey showed the majority of Swiss citizens still support the practice of assisted suicide.

“It is sad to see someone traveling thousands of miles to a free country only to die.”

However, some Swiss citizens also rejected if the country used as a tourist destination suicide.

Bernhard Sutter, manager of the organization’s largest assisted suicide in Switzerland Exit accused European transmit them to the land of moral dilemma, also known as the chocolate products.

“We can not solve the problem of suicide in Europe. It is sad to see someone traveling thousands of miles to a free country only to die, “said Sutter.

“Countries should solve their own problem. So we are very happy if the German or British modify their laws, “added Sutter.

Currently serving Exit only Swiss citizens or those who have lived long in the land.

Exit said the process of committing suicide with the help of quite a long time because they have to prepare the patient and his family.

The perpetrators of suicide tourism is largely those who suffer from severe pain that can not be remedied.

In some European countries, the process of assisted suicide or euthanasia is still illegal. So most of them went to the country to legalize euthanasia as the Swiss

In the print media, one cannot express critical comments against the ruling party or top personalities. It will be censored by the editor himself. But in the internet, there are no such restrictions. For knowing the truth, internet is the best place though one should be choosy about the author.

Spreading Net to villages

There is a talk about spreading internet connectivity in rural India. There are 601625 villages in India. As on 30.06.11, number of villages covered under internet connectivity are 169201. Under Rural Wireline Broadband Schemes, broadband connections were provided to 288454 villages. It is a long way to go before India covers every village under internet connectivity. Even here, the number of usages will be minimal as most of the villagers are not aware of computer usage. But the young people in villages are eager to taste internet and its benefits. Therefore the government should go ahead and provide access to the nook and corner of India.

Image via Wikipedia

Internet against Holy Koran?

From 1990 when the worldwide web (www) was invented and the first website http://info.cern.ch was published on August 6th 1991, the internet usage has grown in geometric progression. Today, millions of people are glued to the Net. It has touched the lives of people all over the world except Afghanistan where the Taliban regime banned the internet as it considered that Internet was against the Holy Koran. But now that ban has also been removed by the Hamid Karzai government in Kabul.

Hacking is threatening Net functioning

As the benefits of internet percolated down to all parts of the world, so also has the misuse along with it. Hacking has grown phenomenally. High profile victims of hacking attempts in the past few months include Sony, Lockheed Martin and Google. Even the government websites had been hacked. Wickileaks secured through illegal means the valuable information about American diplomats’ communication to their government about various issues and personalities. Companies, whose websites are hacked, are often scared of the potential reaction of corporate partners and investors in their firms. Many organisations are embarrassed to reveal the impact. Recently experts gathered at a cyber security conference in London organised by the Eastwest Spell Institute to discuss these matters. Even though a complete solution may not be possible to prevent hacking, the web security can certainly be strengthened by using innovative technologies.

Secure DNS will reduce hacking

Parallely, a small group of internet security specialists gathered in Singapore recently to start up a global system to make email and e-commerce more secure, end the proliferation of passwords and raise the bar significantly for Internet hackers. The discussions were centred on an elaborate technical arrangement to create and then securely store numerical keys that will be kept and stored in three hardened data centres in Singapore, Zurich and San Jose, California. The keys and data centres are part of a technology known as Secure DNS or DNSSEC. DNS refers to Domain Name System. It is a directory connecting internet names to numerical internet addresses. The system is not yet completed and if it is completed and made available, then hacking will be very difficult if not impossible.

Cure may prove worse than the disease

Apart from hacking, companies and organisations are indulging in digital surveillance all over the world to gather information for their marketing and other purposes. Privacy watchdogs are stepping up the pressure, calling for laws that would require companies to stop digital surveillance. Advertisers track the movements of the users across the Web all the time. But the problem is that in the name of enacting laws, the governments may try to take away the rights of the users or curb their activities. In other words, the cure may prove to be worse than the disease. This is also the opinion of the Internet freedom crusader Barlow. He says that the curbs are stupid. In his words, he says,” It is the usual problem (clamping down on internet) where you have a bunch of people who don’t know the environment trying to protect you from things that might go wrong in it. And trying to impose themselves in the ways they can’t otherwise”.

IPv6 will facilitate more connectivity

The present version of iPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) is running out of address space. The current version provides an approximate 4.3 billion connections. We have reached nearly the end of this limit. The push is gaining for IPv6, which enables more people to come on board the Internet wagon. The new IPv6 will enable providing trillions of connections, comfortable enough to meet the expanding requirements of users.

Medical prescriptions in Net

Medical technology is increasingly relying on Internet. Your therapist will see you in the Web and prescribe cures for your ailments. Internet-based psychotherapy is gaining ground. Of course the solutions do not work for everybody. There is nothing like visiting your doctor personally and discuss with him about your ailments. The personal touch is lacking in online consultations.

Online coaching

Similarly, education and coaching has taken a deep root in the Net. Online coaching classes are available for almost every class and course. They serve the purpose of the students very well. There are even facilities for doing the homework of the students. Here again, there is nothing like visiting your coach in person and taking guidance from him. Personal touch can do fantastic transformation. However, as the saying goes, something is better than nothing. In the absence of a good personal coaching available in your area, it is better to go for an online coaching. In future, there may be even online marriages registered. There may be online sexual experiences provided on a defined platform. Couples who do not know each other will be online husbands and wives. All these things cannot equate personal touch. There are online facilities to worship in a temple and even to conduct Pooja. But it cannot equate the experience of a personal visit to the temple and worshipping the deity.

Piracy crackdown coming

Piracy is another evil affecting the world. Web providers are planning for a piracy crackdown. Those who illegally download songs and movies will be warned to stop, and if they don’t, they could find their internet access slowing to a crawl. This is a good measure more effective than enforcing any law by the government. The remedy attacks the root of the problem and brings in an effective solution.

Net facilitates travel

Travel is an important domain where the Net has deeply percolated. As online travel plans gain currency across the world, the players in the domain including travel agencies and hotels are beefing up their presence on the net. It is very convenient to sit at home and book railway or air tickets, hotel accommodation and travel plans. You need not have to visit anywhere. Everything is arranged online.. But online shopping has not gained currency yet. Except buying tickets, Indians are not using shopping facilities online. A large number of users surf in the Net only to gain information about various products. There are two reasons for this. One reason is that people are afraid of using their credit cards in the Net. Second reason is that Indians want a personal touch to shopping. During festival seasons or during functions like marriages, the family visits the shop and loves to purchase various items ranging from apparels to jewellery. This personal touch is missing in online shopping. Even in case of books, people love to visit bookshops to peruse various books before arriving at their buying decision. Nevertheless, online shopping is increasing slowly and by 2014, it is expected to touch a figure of Rs.1500 crore in India.

Beware of social networks

Social network hacking is another big problem faced by the users. Whatever sensitive information they provide in the social network sites is hacked not only by illegal hackers, but monitored if not hacked by the governments and police also. One should be more careful while using these sites. Even the employers monitor these sites about their employees’ activities, interests and opinions.

Writers can freely voice their critical opinion

But the greatest role of the Internet is the facility for the writers to freely voice their opinions without fear or favour and also the readers to read such opinions. Take for example Sunil Gavaskar. No writer can criticise Gavaskar’s play or his opinions because he is considered as a demi God in India. Gavaskar has a deep influence with the cricket administrators including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). No editor of any newspaper will publish the writing of any writer that is sacrilegious to Gavaskar or the Cricket Board. All the newspaper editors receive free passes for all the cricket matches and they visit these matches along with their families and sit in the VIP lounges. Naturally, they will not publish anything against the Cricket Board or Gavaskar. But a writer like me can always publish critical opinion about Gavaskar or the BCCI without any fear. There is no need to fear that the editor may refuse to publish my views. I myself can publish such views in my blog or there are thousands of websites which offer a chance to publishers like me to publish my articles. In other words, Internet is a much more superior media than newspaper or journal. One can call Manmohan Singh a thief or David Cameron a fool in the Internet. This is hardly possible in print media. Naturally, millions of people are switching over to the Net to read varied opinions about various things that interest them from politics to sports. One can even start a newspaper in the Net without incurring lot of expenses and make it popular among the Netizens.

The people of Zurich were rejected by a majority of 85% a proposal to ban assisted suicide law. All but a majority of 78% and rejected a proposal to ban assisted suicide law foreign citizens who travel to Switzerland to resort to this method, informs The Guardian .

In Zurich annually producing approximately 200 assisted suicide group Dignitas in those special places. Switzerland allows assisted suicide since 1941, so long as the person who leads the way is not a doctor and has no direct interest in the death of the person assisted. Another method, euthanasia is legal only in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium and the U.S. state of Oregon.

Many terminally ill in Germany, France or England come to Switzerland to commit suicide, taking advantage of legislation. A recent study shows the increasing number of “suicide tourists” and that some of them suffering from fatal illness caused a heated debate. Government wants to change the legislation so that assisted suicide is allowed only as extreme variant and only if a terminal illness to limit the “suicide tourism”.

Two Ravens a Miracle

Nestled in a lakeside valley some 30 miles southeast of Zurich, Switzerland, lie the town and Benedictine monastery of Einsiedeln. Every year, the town plays host to thousands of pilgrims who come to pay homage to the monastery’s Black Madonna, an unusual black statue of the Virgin Mary. Visitors also hear the story of how the holy icon came to be there.

In A.D. 840 Meinrad, a monk from the Benedictine abbey of Reichenau went into the mountains to become a hermit. He took with him a statue, the Black Madonna (a gift from the abbess of Zurich), and settled in a remote cave overlooking Lake Sihl.

Meinrad lived in this simple cell for more than 20 years. Legend says that he befriended two ravens, so loyal they would bring the holy man food to eat.

Simple as Meinrad’s life was, a pair of thieves suspected that the monk was hiding something of worldly value greater than his treasured icon. In 863 they attacked Meinrad in his cell and killed him. Their greed turned to terror when two candles in the cave lit of their own accord, and the two ravens began to shriek, cry, and harass them.

Although the thieves fled as far as Zurich, the ravens pursued them, pecking at them and flapping their wings until the two villains were arrested.

Holy Place: The Chapel of Grace, with the famous statue of the Black Madonna, is inside the church of the Benediction monastery of Einsiedeln in Switzerland.

In 940, in memory of Meinrad, the Benedictines established a monastery near the site of Meinrad’s cave, and in 948 a new church was built to house the Madonna. But as Bishop Conrad of Constance began the service of consecration, a great voice sounded three times throughout the church: “Stop, stop, brother! God Himself has consecrated this building,” it commanded.

In 964, Pope Leo VIII issued a papal bull pronouncing the event a miracle, blessing all who made the pilgrimage to Einsiedeln.

Meinrad was canonized in the 13th century. In memory of the ravens, for many years afterward the brothers at Einsiedeln used to catch a raven each fall, feed it through the winter, and set it free in spring.

What makes the people to say the world bye bye and what makes death the only way to get peace; this news based article is about such people whose dearest wish is death and the organization that assist them to achieve it.

When we meet to some one near and dear, we wish, “May God bless you a long life”. But it is not at “Dignitas”, where the fellow members wish for a peaceful death. It may sound strange, but it is. In a recently published media report, it was revealed that at least 800 British nationals who were suffering from some incurable diseases had applied for death assistance at the controversial Swiss clinic “Dignitas”. According to “The Observer”, about 800 British citizens have taken the membership there for euthanasia. Moreover, there are 34 such people who think that their diseases are no way curable, so they plan to travel Zurich, where they will be provided lethal overdoses by doctors at Dignitas for peaceful death. According to media reports these 34 people (both men and women) have got the green signal from Dignitas for euthanasia. Dignitas has already got all the required documents regarding their painful miserable bed- ridden life and the authorities of the organization are now assured that all these 34 people are mentally matured and determined to follow their own wish. Forty six years old British lady named Debby Prudy who suffered from multiple Sclerosis was willing to go the British Supreme Court in order to know whether the court would permit her husband to help her in her suicidal tourism to the Zurich. According to the data collected at Dignitas, since the year 2003, almost seventy two British nationals have committed suicide with the help of Dignitas.

A brief introduction to Dignitas- Founded in 1998 by a Swiss lawyer Ludwig Minnelli, it is a Swiss assisted euthanasia group that after being assured that someone consulting them is suffering from any incurable disease and want to end his/her miserable and painful life at his own wish and without any coercion provides euthanasia. According to Ludwig, their group has its own rules, regulations that are according to Swiss law that vehemently states that a person, who assists someone to commit suicide, can only be prosecuted if the law finds him motivated by self interest. According to him, Dignitas works as an entirely neutral party carefully examining the condition of its members to ensure a number of facts-

The person’s disease is no way curable and for him death is better than life.

The person has met with several Dignitas personals and with an independent doctor who have given their approval for the genuineness of the case after examining the evidences produced by the patient. For the purpose the person has to meet the doctor on two separate occasions with a time gap.

Some legal proofs such as signed affidavit, and the document counter signed by some independent witnesses are also needed. In case of a person’s disability(physically unable) to sign the documents, a clear video film of the person is produced in which he/she is required to confirm his/her identity and his/her wish to die. This is done to ensure that it is the person’s own wish to die and no way because of any external pressure. In addition, Dignitas personals ask the person for several times and remind them that taking the lethal overdose will kill him surely, so whether she/he want to proceed or not. The final procedure takes place only after the confirmation that the person is determined and in no way want to reconsider.

According to Ludwig, till March 2008, they had assisted as much as 860 people, out of which 60 percent were German nationals. According to him Dignitas is a non-profit organization and charges only for the cost of preparations done for the assistance. They charge extra money only in case they are requested to takeover the family duties such as funeral possession after the death.

Hey, very strange! Even the death is not free of cost on this planet.

This isn't your boring high school physics.

One thing that can be discussed without too much knowledge in Physics and Philosophy is Freewill. My question for discussion is:

What is your take on freewill?

What i think is that there is an illusion of freewill. From our perspective we get a choice, but no matter how hard we tried we could never take the other direction. For example, you have a choice between A&B. You select A because you think A is better. You were destined to pick A, you could never pick B despite the illusion of Freewill.

I base my outrageous theory on the fact that if another universe was created with exactly the same conditions as our big bang, I believe, that all the same things would happen. In essence, a mirror universe. For example, flipping a coin is determined by how hard you flick it, in a universe made from the same type of big bang you would flip it with the same force so in both universes the coin would land tails. So, in my head at least, if you could somehow replicate a simulation of the big bang you would be able to ‘foresee’ the future.

Of course I can think of thousands of paradoxes, but why not? So if a future could be potentially for told in a computer program, discounting paradoxes, I believe that it makes the future ’set’ which means no Freewill. So I was destined from the big bang to write this article, and no can stop me.

You could also come at this from a philosophical view point.

Imagine you are holding a cup of coffee. “I can’t change my mind in an instant about whether to drink the coffee or hurl it across the room. My decision must have roots in brain processes that occurred in the past”, he says. “Whats more important is that i have freedom to calculate what happens if i throw my coffee cup. Equally, I have the freedom to calculate the effects after drink from my cup.” “What we lack is the freedom to instantaneously switch between which of these initial states we start from. ‘t Hooft calls his new formulation the “unconstrained initial conditions postulate.”*

Now the important bit:

*However, Artoine Suarez, a physicist at the Center of Quantum Philosophy in Zurich, Switzerland, remains troubled. “If ‘t Hooft is really correct, then the work for which he is framed was not carried out as a result of his free will. Rather, he was destined to do it from the beginning of time,” he says. “In that case, maybe his Noble prize should rightfully have been presented to the big bang instead”

Sound familiar?

“Suarez has performed an experiment that he claims proves ‘t Hooft wrong. ‘t Hooft’s deterministic theory and his redefinition of freewill will rely on fundamental states obeying casual laws, so that a chain of events can be calculated precisely, given the starting conditions. By bringing the effects of special relativity into play in a standard entanglement experiment, Suarez and his colleagues were able to check how time flow interacts with the quantum world. “We tested the very concept of time,” says Suarez.*

“I think it will spark an interesting debate,” Suarez says.

“…so that a chain of events can be calculated precisely, given the starting conditions. By bringing the effects of special relativity into play in a standard entanglement experiment, Suarez and his colleagues were able to check how time flow interacts with the quantum world”

I disagree, the real test would be to create an alternate universe and see if the results are the same. If they are, ‘t Hooft is right.

(My information was sourced from New Scientist, 4 May 2006, p

you may comment…
