Bill of Rights

by Fellis in Government, January 15, 2008

After the Constitution was documented, some states were unsure about ratifying it. They wanted their individual rights to be included in the Constitution.

But some Federalists said that America did not need a bill because the constitution was sort of a bill anyway. So James Madison decided to make a Bill of Rights and forged into the Constitution as Amendments.

Though most states thought that the constitution was perfect, some were dubious whether their individual rights were actually included in the constitution. However, the other states said that there was no need for a bill of rights because the constitution was a bill itself. James Madison decided to make amendments and add them to the constitution. Then he made it so that these could be changed if the people wished it so. However, this could only be done if a two-thirds majority of both houses of the congress and three fourths majority of the states.

I think that the 10 amendments were a good idea because it can be changed. If it couldn’t be changed, everyone would disagree all the time. And it was also derived from many other good documents like the English Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. Since the Constitution is so flexible, it has survived form more than 200 years.
