Presidential Election
I am amazed by today’s voters and their standards and measures of voting for a presidential candidate.
I hear a wide variety of conversations in line at the grocery store, bank or even paying for gas. The other day, while waiting in a long line at a local convenience store, I overheard a woman talking about the economy and how President Bush is completely at fault. She is voting for Hilary Clinton because women are better at managing money. I was shocked by her statement.
Where is it written that a woman can better manage finances than a man. Where does she get this information. How many women do you know that have absolutely no idea how to balance their checkbook? I know a few as well as a few men. When did choosing a candidate for presidency become about stereo-types instead of a well read, well thought out, informed decisions?.
Another instance I encountered was waiting at the Secretary of State. I heard two African-American women talking about voting for Barack Obama. One said “im voting for the black man, its about time the blacks have power.” The other replied,” I know what you mean, im tired of white men telling us what to do.”
Again, I was utterly shocked.
Why don’t people realize that the color of ones skin or their gender alone does not make them the best option for any position but especially the leader of the free world? When did it become the norm to be ignorant and uninformed of public affairs and government issues? What does that say for our country?
My hope is that the citizens of this country wake up before its too late. Start reading a newspaper or watching the news or maybe read a book that does start with once upon a time. This country is in dire straits. Our economy is in serious trouble, the dollar is worth almost nothing compared to other countries, work is leaving to over seas companies at an alarming rate. People are losing their homes in record numbers.
We need a candidate that will address all of those issues and more, unemployment,
and healthcare to name a few. Do you even know where the candidate you are choosing stands on any of those issues? Do you know where they stand on abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, education, or even foreign policy? What does your candidate say about taxes and the way that the constitution has been bent and twisted until its almost unrecognizable?
If you think that these issues are not important and don’t have merit, then go ahead and vote for skin color or gender. I guarantee that by this time next year, those who voted by these unimportant characteristics will be the ones screaming the loudest.
