Do It Now
What is stopping you from doing everything you want to?
“If I win the lottery, I am going to give money to charity.”. “I would really like to see more of my own country.”. “When I die I am going to leave each of my grandchildren $20,000.”. Promises are made for the future, why don’t people act now? Give to charity now. Travel now. Give a small amount of that money to your grandkids now, so you can see them enjoy it. Assuming they are over 18, why not?
Life is too long and too short not to have and do the things that you want, so if you want to give money to charity, start now. If you want to travel, hop in your car and go. If you want to share your wealth with your family do so!
People talk about writing “The Great American novel”, or Canadian, or British. Learning to play an instrument, or building their dream home. Learning more. I suggest picking up a pen and paper, or even a laptop, start writing, go to a second hand music store and get going. Make your current home into your dream home. There are many evening classes a person can take if they wish to continue their education.
We often hold memories of fights and long to reconcile with an old friend or family member. Why not pick up the phone today?
There is no point living for the future if you are not going to live for today.

Do it NOW!
If you want to give money to charity, I am sure there are plenty of local ones you can donate to now. It does not have to be a large sum. I am not a fan of the types of charities that send out in the mail requests for donations and specify “Suggested” amounts. I also prefer smaller local charities because I know the money is going more towards the cause than administration, but you do what you want. Donate pennies. If everyone who said “If I win the lottery, I am going to give some money to charity” donated ten cents, I am sure the charities who are waiting for their lottery win would be better off right now.
If you want to travel and see more of your own country, do it today. Get a tourism map for your area, your city even, and visit some of the sites you have not seen. A day road trip can bring in many adventures you have not thought of. Traveling does not have to involve overnight stays in costly hotels, it does not necessarily mean seeing the ocean or Disney, it can be going 200 miles to another city and seeing a small attraction, or going 200 miles to a place where you can hike up a hill for a fantastic view. Do it now.
Your grandchildren can not thank you for money you give them after you die. Nobody wants to feel like their grandkids will be waiting for them to die just so they can have some money. Obviously a person needs to keep some for themselves, and shouldn’t give too much to their grandchildren that the grandchildren come to expect, or abuse it. Money is tough to come by, helping out a grandchild who needs money for College or University is something they can appreciate and will save them a lot in the long run as well as greatly improve their opportunities in the future. The amount of money you give now will greatly depend on your own financial circumstance as well as the childs age and need. But, what is the point of giving money when you are not around to see them enjoy it?
If you want to write a novel do it. Don’t worry about it not being a success. Worry creates procrastination and then nothing gets done. If you want to write a novel, write it, if it is not a best seller, fine, at least it is written. At least you have created something.
If you want to make music, pick up an instrument and take lessons, you might not be the next rock star, but you will have fun.
If you want to build a dream home, but lack the funding, turn your existing home into your dream home. Paint a wall, plant a garden, change your curtains. Try going to thrift shops to find items that make your home unique. Make a change, any change. It is better than being miserable in the home you have, which by the way, is probably a lot nicer than the cardboard box or shanty town house some people live in.
You can blame lack of money for your lack of doing anything, but chances are it is really only you who is holding you back. Tiny changes involve very little money, or a redirection of the money you do have but are using for other things.
What ever you want, what ever you need, do it and do it now!

A very daring message. Unfortunately for all those money moguls, hard earned cash couldn’t be easily left with a final plunge to the grave. Anyway, the chairman of the board will be glad to rise in position and possession whatever case maybe.

Giving to charities can also mean giving your time as in volunteering. If I had a shelter closer to home, I am sure I would be there all the time giving of myself. The nearest one is 1 hour away, I do try to give cash when I can. thanks.

Great piece, and I’m the worlds worst for putting things off. I really need to heed your advice! At least my photography is becoming more involved now, as I make the time for it!

Thank you! This is great! I want to do something now, but apparently, I’m to young to do anything!
Actually, I’m learning to play three instruments, so I’ll just continue with them…but still, this is very inspiring.

Excellent philosophy. I wrote two manuscripts (I hesitate to call them novels) and learned to play guitar on this principle.

one thing my grand father had taught me when I was still a kid: “do not wait for tomorrow what you can do today”; putting emphasis on doing what is supposedly should be done than wasting time and leaving everything for tomorrow: for tomorrow is another new day…
great piece, thought provoking.
