10 Reasons to Avoid the Office Christmas Party

Many companies will be holding office Christmas parties. Even in these distressed times, there are still companies that will provide a little holiday cheer. However, sometimes you just don’t feel like going.

  1. You’ve heard rumors that your boss is going to hand out a little gift called a pink slip
  2. Your boss has been rumored to spike the eggnog. You aren’t in the mood to go home drunk.
  3. Your co-worker plans to sing a medley of Christmas songs. Your co-worker is a terrible singer.
  4. You have a date with your boyfriend to go to the symphony. You’ve been looking forward to this concert for weeks.
  5. You still have heart burn from the last Christmas party. The food was overly spicy and hot.
  6. You don’t want to hear the same speech about employee sacrifices. Of course, this means no bonuses for another year.
  7. You wind up having to do most of the clean up when the party is over
  8. You’ve watched the Weather Channel and understand that there is a forecast for ten inches of snow in the evening. You do not want to get stuck in the office.
  9. You have a cold and feel sick. The idea of a huge buffet makes you want to gag.
  10. You have to pay $50 to attend. The boss calls this making a “contribution.” You call it a “rip off.”
