About Being Retrenched
I have noticed a thing or two about retrenchement and have a hint or two that may help.
Every second magazine I pick up nowadays has an article about retrenchment. It seems the world and everyone else is either scared they are going to get fired or (sadly) have been fired. In fact it feels like we are riding on a big scare.
When you land in the middle of it, is not a scare anymore. When you open that nicely phrased, very friendly letter the world seems to change without anything really happening. Everything you thought you can handle if it comes your way suddenly becomes real. When it hits you you find everything you thought you could handle suddenly isn’t so easy to deal with. I know. I didn’t get retrenched, I landed myself in an inadequate pension at a stage when early retirement were still almost a hundred years away. In fact, you can say I were at the start of my career. Granted, its not retrenchment. It feels much the same though.
I settled down for a few days, then started thinking about the one thing always mentioned in these articles. In fact its the focus point in most of these snippets of wisdom so widely spread. Its also something about which I thought hard and long. Then I decided its not the best advice anyone ever gave me. In all of these articles they hand out the same little gem; “start looking for a new job”. Some even start giving advice on how to.
Now it may only be me and my unique insight in life, or maybe there is something I don’t really understand. If I did not have a you to start out with, I would not have been so harshly “retired”. If I now go looking for another job, I will once again be at the mercy of someone else’s ability to “retire” me.
My personal take on this may be quite radical, but think about it for a moment. If you replaced the whole concept of looking for a job, with looking for an income, the world starts to look quite different. To some it starts to look quite scary. Some of us would rather spend our life working hard and giving our best in a job. It is too scary to create our own income.
I create my own Income. I will never need to have a “job” again. In fact, this income I am creating, will eventually run on its own. Its not expensive either. If you have Internet, you have a start. Visit me at http://diziette-iworkathome.blogspot.com and I will show you how.
