Acting Dilemma

A tip for older actors.

As an actor get s older he has to modify his approach towards the market I think and look for alternative solutions aside from producing his own material, which is also an idea.

I am at a new stage of my career as an actor. At first I would wait for auditions to come to town and even attempt to get representation. But my experiences with agents are poor and my tolerance regarding their vanity even poorer! So I have been going after independent productions in the city but then realized that the opportunities are slimmer than before or perhaps I am falling out of a more popular age group. That could be the reason too. All that is reason enough for me to pick myself up and hot the market outside the province. Only I wouldn’t recommend this for people expecting results to fall on their laps. Directors will be just as choosy and they are not necessarily going to sympathize with your efforts. Even if they do this does not mean that you should be their choice. The fact that you have travelled the extra distance does not make you more deserving of a role. They have to find an appropriate person. Your travelling just means that you have access to a greater market. One way for actors to do this is by sharing the driving. There are plenty of drivers looking to cut their travel expenses and the actor can offer to drive part of the way.
