All’s Fair in Love and War
I seduced my boss to beat my rival.
Mark was fairly new at being head of the department himself, and having come from another bank, he still didn’t know people that well, and this included myself. Whilst he might have been surprised when I slunk into his office for my interview, he also didn’t really know me well enough to assume I looked any different to any other working day. But I could tell he was turned on by my appearance. It wasn’t long before the interview questions became a lot more personal, and before I knew it, Mark and I were kissing passionately on the desk. It was only then that something inside of me snapped, and I realised the full extent of what I was doing. Sliding myself off the desk, I hastily readjusted my clothes and fled the room. I resigned before I could lose my own job!
Stuart, of course, got the job, and thought that was why I had resigned. That’s what a lot of people thought, and I had to put up with the “ungracious” whispers that floated past me, for the following two weeks. I was mortified, but determined to hold onto whatever scrap of dignity I had left. Stuart wouldn’t even talk to me, and I was really upset to lose such a good friend – and he didn’t even know what I’d done! I decided a change of scenery was in order to get some perspective, and hastily arranged transport and visas to the UK.
In London, I quickly found a low-ranking job in a sister bank to the one I had been working for. It was nothing like my old position, I was basically starting from scratch, but I didn’t care. A few months later, Stuart wrote to me, and asked if he could come and see me. It turned out he hated his new job, realised he should never had gone for it, and had also resigned. I welcomed him at Heathrow airport a few months later again.
Stuart and I have been married two years this April, and both of us really enjoy our new jobs in completely different areas; I still work for the bank, and he has gone to work for an accounting firm. We are no longer competitive, and I will even be giving up my job – for a while – this year to have our first child. But even though all this time has passed, I’ve never been able to tell Stuart – or anyone else – that I seduced my boss in order to get a promotion.
