An Almost Naked Hero: An in-Depth Look on Lifeguarding

This is an in depth look on how life guards are an important person, and how they have affected the media, the pool and overall enjoyment of swimming.

Hunks, babes, muscular people, scantly clad, heroes. As you go into the local recreration centre to take a dip in the pool, certain people are watching you. They watch your every move, making sure you behave. Though this may sound creepy, they are really trying to protect you, trying to prevent you from injury or incident. Deep down inside you are grateful for their protection because one of your friends was fooling around and almost died here, but these people saved them. They are every day heroes, They are… Lifeguards, and not your tipical Pamala Anderson on baywatch My purpose is to convince you that even though lifeguards are making sure you don’t get into any trouble, they are trying to protect your lives. Who are lifeguards? Lifeguards are those people who sit in the tall chairs by the pool whistle and act cranky, right. Thats the insight of an average kid who likes to goof off and is around pools not that much. But a kid who can’t swim very well and gets pushed into the deep end as a practical joke may think differently.

To them a lifeguard is a hero. Lifeguards save peoples lives everyday. They are trained in basic and emergency medical treatment. There are two kinds of lifeguards: ocean guards and pool guards. Ocean guards are trained for surveying beaches and there are usually many guards on the beach. Pool guards are trained to survey many people in smaller spaces at one time, they are found in recreation centres, water parks, wave pools, and public pools. Lifeguards go through quite alot of training to watch over you. They also use alot of equipment in emergency situations. They use: a whistle, a CPR mask, a basic first aid kit, a floating throw object on a tether for reaching victims and a watch. They also have aids with them inside the facility such as: a long spine board, a large first aid kit, an automated external defibrillators (AED), a megaphone or some other method of speaking loudly, a high chair, an oxygen tank and reaching poles used for scooping or pulling objects out of the water. A lifeguard may try and assist a person submerged in water any length of time, a person who seems to be taking in water and trying to stay obove water but having trouble or a person who seems tired or distressed. People who lifeguard put their own lives in jepredy every time they save someone. they risk their lives everytime they jump into the water for someone, they place their lives on the line everytime they grab a drowning victim and they may die if the victim turns on them. So, next time your on the beach, listen to the lifeguard, it may be Pamala Anderson saving your life.
