Are You Happy in Your Career?
Almost half of people in the UK are unhappy with their career. Is your career bringing you down? Why you should consider changing if this is the case.
How many times have we heard family and friends moaning about having to go to work? People have the freedom to choose their own careers in our society, but no one ever seems to be happy. Every Monday many a person in the UK wakes up with a groan and starts counting down the hours left until the weekend. But why? Our career is something we choose for ourselves and, like it or not, you are going to spend around 50 years of your life working.
Many people focus mainly on the salary they will receive or what is easiest to do, but these careers are not always the most challenging, rewarding or above all enjoyable. And why would you spend your entire life doing something you actually hate? It seems incredibly illogical yet according to statistics almost half of people in Britain are unsatisfied with their jobs. Your work makes up the majority of your life, so it is important to find a career that you really enjoy, and don’t end up going for a job because it is conveniently located, or because it is straight forward.
Often people who don’t enjoy their work become more rampant at weekends and during the evenings to try to search for the satisfaction their job doesn’t give them, but the same kind of contentment can’t be found in a bottle or at a nightclub. Whilst it is fun to go out in your spare time, to enjoy a life properly you must enjoy it the majority of the time, rather than during a few snatched drunken hours in between the boredom. This makes people tired, worn down and depressed, whereas a great job that you enjoy encourages people to be happier and enjoy a healthier lifestyle, with less manic nights to search for enjoyment, and more sleep and balanced meals, causing you to be overall a more energetic, fun and lively person.
Do you enjoy the career you have? If not, why are you sticking with it? To devote your life to something which does not stimulate you is a waste. While it may sound naïve, I am determined to go into a career which I love and look forward to every day, and I would encourage you to find one which you enjoy too. After all, you only live once!
