Career Change or Keep Doing What I Am Doing?

Life is full of big decisions. Read about a big decision that I have to make regarding my career.

Working in the gambling industry is a pretty good job. It pays well and there is always something to do.  However, if you are looking for a job with job satisfaction, then being a TAB Clerk is probably not for you.  All that take, take, take. The only time you give is when someone wins, even then the punter might not be too happy about the amount they have won.  Job satisfaction is very hard to find.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my work and I have the best boss in the whole world.  Lately, I have been feeling that this just isn’t the job for me anymore. I need something that will provide me with some satisfaction, something that I can look back at at the end of the day and actually feel as if I have achieved something.

I have been thinking about becoming a teacher’s aide and maybe doing a course in speech therapy.  Why a teacher’s aide?  The boys will be entering the school system starting next year. Even though they have been doing really well with Early Intervention, I just have a ‘gut-feeling’ that they will still struggle.  Also, in the suburb where we live, there seems to be a rather high percentage of children with autism spectrum disorders.

By becoming a teacher’s aide and doing a course on speech therapy, I feel that I will be helping to secure my family’s financial future as well as providing the most highest level of care and support for my children.  As for the rollercoaster ride that we experience everyday, if I become a teacher’s aide Steve will be able to take over the carer’s role of our boys and he can stay home (and do all the housework, cooking, etc).

I think I just answered my own question – now, I just have to discuss it all with Steve.

I’m sure he will be fine with it ;-)
