Controlling Business on The Move
It is important to be able to assist any element of your business when you are needed to avoid any drastic damage to your business should something happen. Here is a simple guide on managing your business when you are absent.
Directors often find themselves controlling a business whilst on the move between branches and businesses. It is important to be able to assist any element of your business when you are needed to avoid any drastic damage to your business should something happen. Here is a simple guide on managing your business when you are absent.
Be contactable
The first and most important thing is to be contactable. Get yourself a Bluetooth car kit so people can reach you even when you are on the road. Not knowing about a problem when it happens means that there is nothing you can do about it. You can also easily manage your business whilst driving with an iPhone car kit which will allow you to make calls to areas of your business and arrange orders. If you have long distances to travel between elements of your business then these calls could increase the efficiency of your role by vast amounts.
Use an assistant
In each of your stores or branches you should have an assistant manager. This should not be someone you just hired to run your company, it should be an employee whom you personally nurtured and developed into a manager of your business. By training someone to do your job yourself, you will find they are both more appreciative of the chance you have given them and more likely to work hard to make your business strive. Connect their pay to the turnover of the shop so they are encouraged to do more in order to receive a bonus. Your assistant should be in regular contact with you to inform you how the business is doing on an hour to hour basis. Remember, your job is to think strategically and to do this you need to know what is happening in all of your stores.
Outsource
On some occasions it is better to outsource work to others whilst you are one the move or busy elsewhere. This means that rather than work building up, it is all dealt with promptly. Make sure you have a person you can trust to whom you outsource work so that you always know you are getting the results that your business needs.
Remote Desktop
One of the best ways to save yourself time when travelling is to set up a remote desktop from which you can access all of your files, folders and programs on any computer. By having a remote desktop set up you will always have the information that you need when talking to any of your employees or business partners and you will not have to carry it with you. This keeps your information more secure as well as being remarkably efficient.
Transport
Make sure you always have a reliable mode of transport to get you around between branches. Having a breakdown could cost you valuable working time so be sure to have it serviced regularly. It is also important to drive a professional looking car to present the right message to your employees.
