Correctional Facility Guards
by Guards in charge of prisoners who should actually be in the cell next to them.
We all would like to think of a uniformed guard as someone who is going to be in control and be fair. Nothing could be further from the truth in many cases. One might ask “How would you know?” Having served ten years on the inside of those prison walls showed me plenty. More than anyone could possibly imagine unless you too served a bit of time.
In no way am I saying people don’t make mistakes and after all who am I to judge. However when you place Security Officer in that uniform to enforce policy and in a position of authority and what they do is more of a criminal act than most there, well lets just say I am really thinking cameras are a great idea in prison and an outside agency other than the systems higher ups should be viewing them.
Countless times I have seen so many officers in relationships on the inside and when it is uncovered how quick they are to scurry about covering for their own. So many things are brought in daily to inmates and the guards are usually the way it entered the system. Inappropriate relationships and items brought in for special favors. Officers turning their heads to the violence and half the time were the ones to instigate the fighting.
I have seen Wardens try to implement ways to try change things but they are only one and so many guards who are not going to change. Something has to change. Monitoring of guards in our correctional facilities are great way of beginning to change alot on the inside. The bringing contraband inside the prison systems must be addressed. Look at the cell phones in our prison systems. They did not get there on their own.
I have had so many prisoners brag to me on what is brought in to them. First it is food, maybe some lipstick, some quarters for the vending machine and over time the two are developing a relationship that could in turn cause serious problems not to mention more serious items being brought to them.
Seriously there are some very fair and decent officers but the bad outweigh the good. They should have been my cell mate.
