Day Care, a Job: Not a Career
This is just a little blurb about Day Care work.
Just because a person works in a daycare, doesn’t mean that they are all ga-ga about kids. Most of them are not kid friendly outside of work. My room mate for instance, worked at a daycare and has no intention of having children or caring for her step children. Her lifestyle is not conducive to that. Of course she did not stay at that job too long.
I too work for a daycare. I love working at the daycare as I am a big kid anyway. I like all the things the kids like and so working there is great. It also helps that I am a small person and can fit in all the little chairs. No, I am not a midget, just short. I like that I am on the kid’s level so they don’t have to look too far up. And when they get out of hand, giving them the evil eye is much easier. Thank goodness I do have great kids that I am not going crazy all the time. I thank the parents who show their children good manners and discipline. It all starts at home.
I never wanted to turn this into a career, not really. I sort of fell into the whole daycare thing by accident. I was young and the idea of making money was something that I really wanted to pounce upon. I knew that there had to be some family out there willing to employ a young person to watch their children. I guess that is where I came in. I searched the news papers and put my name out there. I had started my search for independence through employment.
I landed a job right around the corner. I truly had lucked out. Here was a family willing to let me take care of their little girl. It was great. They would pick me up when I needed a ride and everything. Yeah, I had started babysitting for them before I could drive. I babysat for that family for a very long time. When they had decided to move, they kept me on. it was great. I always had money in my pocket. It was such an easy job. Some babysitters never form a bond with the children or families. They just figure that it is easy money and little responsibility. Boy are those folks wrong.
I fell into this whole daycare thing on a whim. I take great care of the kids in my charge. I become their friend and bond with them. I make sure that they are clean, fed, and have fun. I didn’t want to do this for a living, but it is one of the best jobs out there. Where else can you go and be goofy and that be the norm? Where can you sing silly songs and not be looked at funny. I could never work in a cubicle without windows. I enjoy playing outside and coloring. I enjoy kids at work and say that it is only a job, but secretly I really do like kids as long as they are not my own, hehehe…
