Declining Unemployment: Completely False

How low unemployment statistics are misleading and a bad sign. Government tricks and manipulated statistics makes the situation appear better than it actually is.

The unemployment rate in America is now at 8.9%, huzzah, but not really. You see, after 9 months, you are no longer counted as being unemployed, whether you have a job or not. Maybe, just maybe, the lower unemployment rate correlates with the rise in welfare rates in roughly 26 states.

According to CBS, welfare numbers increased in 26 states, Illinois 3%, South Carolina 23%, Florida 14%, California 10%, etc. Unfortunately, I could not find any other references to this, except the U.S. Debt Clock, which showed a decline of the U.S. labor force by 500,000 a year at the current rate. This would make sense as well, you see, people are not counted as part of the labor force if they are on unemployment or welfare. A statisticians and politicians dream, is feeding misleading economic indicators to the people they aim to please or depend on for votes. Republicans and Democrats both do this, so this one is not the Democrats alone.

Here’s how some of the media are covering this. An article by CNS NEWS said, ” Obama says the latest numbers show that the economy has added 1.5 million private-sector jobs in the last year and, in his words, “that’s progress”.” While President Obama is not lying, he certainly is being disingenuous. Be assured that if unemployment drops further, it should not be taken positively under the current trends. Raymond Scheppac, of the National Governors Association in an interview by CBS News said, “We’ve been keeping statistics for over 30 years, and this is by far the worst situation we’ve ever seen.” The reported increase in welfare rates, will further damage state deficits, which will lead to harder times in the future for taxpayers.
