There are still a lot of discrimination cases occurring worldwide. One of the countries where employment discrimination occurs is the United States, specifically in the State of California. Discrimination in California often stems from the cultural diversity that is prevalent within the area. Since the US is known as one of the countries with healthy economy, it has attracted a lot of industries or businesses. Although this opened up a lot of employment opportunity, it also became the way of owners to violate laws taking abuse on the need of hoping applicants who like to get a job.

Through the years, discrimination in California has been defined as the prejudice taken against someone with a different race, gender (including pregnancy), color, national origin, religion and even sexual preference inside the workplace. More so, even though the government has long strived to provide its citizens with laws that could prevent further abuses to the workforce, it seems that this is still not enough. The act of discrimination could be divided into two categories including:

Direct
It is defined as the deliberate expression of untoward dislike of an employee just because he or she is tagged as different from the others. It could be done verbal or through actions.

Indirect
The discrimination was done through the laws or the policies made by the company. This may go against groups of people or specific employees.

One example would be an employee experiencing abuse yet have not gotten the guts to report this to authorities. Most often, reports of discrimination occurs from the different aspects of the employment processes. These include the application, hiring, promotion, termination, training, and providing leaves or wages.

The current administration must work hand in hand with the labor sector and the employees so that employment rights are upheld. People tend to forget that the mere act of discrimination abhors the same principles which led to the foundation of the country. They must realize that the creation of this country was led by the amalgamation and group efforts of the different states. Because of this, it is the prime responsibility of Americans to accept diversity as it is the reason why they promote democracy.

California employees who believe that they have experienced workplace discrimination should seek legal assistance from an expert employment attorney so as to receive just compensations from the discriminating employee. Additionally, legal action is necessary in order to teach other employers about their responsibilities under the laws.
