Encourage Creativity with Daring Office Design
Long gone are the days of plain rows of desks and boring white walls that drive staff into unconsciousness.
Office design has come a long way in recent years; modern offices are designed to enhance performance, encourage creativity and incite attraction.
If you are looking to spruce up the office, why not take some inspiration from some of these companies?
Google is one of the most well known examples of fabulous office design. Their many workspaces around the globe employ bright colours and funky furnishings. Their Zurich office boasts myriad quirky touches: check your emails while seated in an individual hammock, conduct a meeting inflatable chairs, join a conference call while in a cable car set on a snowy mountain top.
Sofas and brightly coloured rugs intersperse the desk areas. Lava lamps and bean bags abound. The office decor is one of the reasons so many people want to work for Google; it demonstrates that they value their staff.
Innocent, makers of natural smoothies and other nice nibbles have created an open space for their staff which is akin to sitting outside: astro turf, a wooden cabin, huge picnic tables and a red telephone box. Even their vans are unusual, one is covered with grass, another is a cow.
British media firm, Electric Works installed an 87-feet-tall helter skelter in the atrium of their new Sheffield office. With a forty foot drop, they say it is a “statement about risk taking.”
You would expect Pixar to work in a special environment, therefore it is no surprise to hear that the office comprises individual wooden sheds, strings of fairy lights and mismatched furniture. The atrium displays the latest life sized-Pixar creations. Table tennis and pool tables adorn the staff relaxation areas.
Not all businesses will want to be quite so daring, but a little creativity can go a long way and can rub off on employees, who will really appreciate the gesture to jazz up the office.
