Factory Workers Beware

Factory work is hard work but good money. Factory workers get good benefits. I’m sure most people have heard those words before, but are they true? Is there a catch in there somewhere or is that the whole truth?

After the night he stared at me cutting plastic I realized the area he instructed me to clean was in plain view with little obstructions of the upstairs windows of the office unlike the area I had been working and learning for three days, which makes me wonder if that isn’t a new form of sexual harassment or something. Whatever the reason, I wasn’t allowed to work the case line again but was placed where ever they wanted me and that was usually out on the open floor in view of the offices.

The pay is minimum wage unless you are a permanent worker there and Temps get no benefits. All of the days the factory is shut down there is no pay for the Temps but the permanent workers get it off with pay. This particular factory shuts down for four days for Thanksgiving and two weeks for Christmas, the Temps don’t get paid for not working but the permanent workers will get paid for that mandatory time off.

So beware, don’t get into factory work thinking you will get anything but a hard time from some of the supervisors and some bosses, excessive hours, lots of guess work as to how things in the factory run and lots of loneliness because chances are you will be placed in areas where you will spend hours by yourself. It wasn’t worth the over time, taxes took all my overtime pay, others there were angry because they lost more than just the overtime pay in taxes and got paid more working eight hour shifts at five days a week..

I too worked in the fast food industry, and this place is good for kid just starting out, it’s a good experience. But some times we have do what is necessary.
