Filipinos’ Working Preference

Economic difficulties become a motivating factor to Filipinos working abroad.

Humanity by nature differs in characteristics regardless of culture, heritage, or race. Some say that Americans are known for meticulousness or precision in terms of output accuracy, innovativeness, and specifically time consciousness.

Filipinos in its own right have been famous for a relative laxity in performing required or delegated tasks particularly workers in the government since those employed in private firms are generally under maximum supervision to ensure that the salary rate is commensurate to the required job performance. This is a given fact for Filipinos working within its own country.

Soon as dissatisfaction with the wage sets in, a dollar earning potential becomes the typical alternative route in resolving the un-parallelism between the family resources available against daily keep requirements. Working away from the homeland transforms the Filipino Overseas workers (OFWs) into quality and industrious workers that fortunately never escape from keen observation by foreign employers.

Neither could it be denied that the Philippines is under economic stringency regardless of government claims of a sound economy. The country is far from being economically viable save for the inherently moneyed people and corrupt officials in the government where series of price increases on basic commodities are considered negligible contrary to the adversity imposed into the masses and impoverished individuals who suffer the consequentiality.

Skilled Workers

The country is apparently running out of skilled workers such as plumbers, pipe fitters, welders, carpenters, lathe machine and heavy equipment operators, mason and laborers among the most demanded skills that the country has but gradually diminishing in number; claimed by the glittering opportunities dollar countries offer since job fairs became a fashion within the country.

Government sponsored job fairs are but cloaked with the objective of helping Filipinos land a better earning job abroad, which the government basically benefits from the dollar remittances the overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) remit to their families in the country.

While these types of jobs seemingly have no place in the Philippines, they are catered albeit subtly to foreign employers seeking the relative services.

Domestic helpers abroad

The limited job opportunities in the country prompted the less educated and professionals alike to land as domestic helpers in other Asian countries generally in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Middle East. Some luckily made financial viability upon finding good employers but unfortunate for the rest that come back home as package in a box that totally topples a family dream. Rape if not murder has been the common cause of misfortune of women domestic helpers working in other Asian countries.
