Have you ever considered getting a gardening job? If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and working with mulch and flowers perhaps a gardening job is a perfect match for you. There are many gardening jobs out there and if you want to be at the top of the gardening world you’re going to have to work up the gardening jobs’ ladder. Here are five different gardening jobs that will help you start your career in gardening.
Yard Work
Many people wish they had someone else to do yard work for them. Now is your chance to step in and offer your services. One of the best gardening jobs is offering services as simple as a full yard cleanup which includes mowing lawns, weeding gardens and watering plants to something as extensive as full yard landscaping plus the yard cleanup and care. This is going to give you ample experience for when you try to build your own small landscaping business (or even if you just try to get involved with another landscaping company).
Plant Starts
Some people don’t have gardens because they don’t fully understand how plants work and when plants need to be started, etc. You can help people by growing plant starts then selling them to those who want a garden but lack the knowledge (or perhaps even space) to start their own. From flower starts to vegetable starts you can make a modest living off of helping others start their own gardens. This is great experience if you’re interested in one of your gardening jobs being a worker at a nursery.
County Extension Services
Sometimes your gardening job won’t actually start in the garden but by working with a horticulturist at your county’s extension office. Many people call in for tips about soil and different plants. You’ll be gaining invaluable experience and just might be able to make good friends with that professional horticulturist.
Nursery Worker
Sometimes the only experience you need when landing a gardening job is the ability to care for house plants. If you can prove you have thriving houseplants then you just might be able to land a gardening job in one of your local nurseries. One sure way to get hired is by constantly visiting a nursery (to buy plants, of course) and getting to know the staff and perhaps even the manager. Share your knowledge so when you are ready to start a gardening job you’ll have a place to go where people already know you.
Landscaping
This is one of the gardening jobs that require a little more extensive knowledge about gardening, plants, tools, etc. Once you’ve obtained a little experience of working in yards you could easily land a job in landscaping. This is a great way to climb up the ladder of gardening jobs until you have landed the one you want.
Gardening jobs are the perfect way to get started in a career of gardening if you’re truly interested in working outdoors, with plants and/or working manual labor. If this is truly a dream job then starting in one of these five gardening jobs could be the first of many steps that gets you to your ultimate career goal.
