Five Things to Do When You Lose Your Job
Lost your job? Don’t lose your mind. Try out these five things and your live will never be the same again.
Nothing is impossible in this current economic turmoil. Things that seemed very unlikely have been known to occur. The Magnanimous Goliaths have fallen and the insignificant little Davids have somehow survived. And amidst this churning of the entire economic sea is the common man. The very man who runs the companies but loses his job! The man who works hard to make ends meet is suddenly left without the other end in sight. And that common man is the most of us.
So what do you do when you lose your job? Sit back and relax? Fret? Curse your boss and the entire world? There are a thousand things that are known to have been done. But there is one thing that everyone conveniently ignores-the planning that goes into surviving the job loss. And only 5 basic things can change the way you take your layoff. Try them:
1. Plan to be good
Most of the people who have lost their jobs simply fall prey to the devil. In fact they become so aggressive that they in a way become the devil himself. That is an easy way out. But it is just a temporary solution. Be good and be sober. A good and healthy mind is able to think. A clean thought process can lay down a plan to surviving the drought. Help your family if you have one. Do chores for your wife. Be good and keep everyone around happy.
2. Plan to conserve money
Money is a very interesting phenomenon. Money is like fuel-easy to burn away. The trick is to fool yourself. Get into the habit of putting away a part of your income in some other account or a fixed deposit plan. That way you will never have a lot of money to spend. A better option to a credit card is the secured version. Have control over your spending and you will never feel the pinch.
3. Plan to find alternative sources of earning
Many a times, a job loss is actually a boon in disguise. It gives you the courage to try out jobs you would never have tried under ordinary circumstances. Never be prejudiced. A job is a job and just a source of income.
The internet is another source which has an answer to everything. Check out the job sites to find something you are interested in. There are also businesses that offer innumerable opportunities in the form of freelancing. Try out different business models like affiliate marketing and advertising on websites.
4. Plan to collaborate
Collaboration can be in many forms. Get in touch with friends and family to see if they have any openings for you. Collaborate with likeminded people to explore opportunities like setting up a business and other freelancing work.
Social networking is a form of collaboration. Register in different social networking websites like Orkut, Facebook and LinkedIn. Join groups and make new friends. Collaborate with them to find jobs or set up a business.
5. Plan to believe
Lastly, the most important thing to do: Believe. The power of faith is known to have crumbled mountains of obstacles like nine pins. Remember it is easy to give up and go into depression, but it is very difficult to survive and fight. Taking heart and surviving will see you a better and a more successful person at the end of the ordeal.
Many success stories have been written by people who have been laid off and who knows the next one might just be yours.
