Gaining Employment Through Volunteering
Being a stay at home mom for over 10 years going back into the work force was almost impossible I found an unsual way to slowly but surely get back in there and this is my story.
I have been a stay at home mom, housewife for around 10 years. I worked before I had gotten married and starting having children and I knew that when the kids starting getting a little older and got into school that I wanted to work again but I really wasnt sure what it would be. My daughter started head start at the time I had one little one still at home full time our youngest son but I took him everywhere and anywhere I went. When my daughter started head start preschool I got involved in being on the policy council and I really enjoyed it so I started doing a little more I started volunteering I went in 4 to 5 days a weeks and I did this faithfully for 2 years. My daughter since graduated and went onto to elementary school. She’s now in 1st grade. Now my youngest son is in head start. Im still on the policy council board and still volunteering Im also working on my criminal justice degrees, it’s my goal and hopes that I will continue this year out because my son will be moving on to kindergarten next year and by then I will be done with my degree I want to either be a school social worker or a probation officer. Some may ask how we are surving since the work I am doing is volunteer therefore Im not getting paid right now, we have my husband’s income from his VA pension and I write articles online plus I make and sell jewerly and I make a little extra money that way. I always knew that I either wanted to work in my kids school or some area of law enforcement. If you want something bad enough you have to go out and make it happen and sometimes it might mean stepping out of your comfort zone.
