A gunsmith is an individual who crafts, repairs, maintains, sells and also remodels such firearms like guns. Gunsmiths gain their skills and experience either through informal apprenticeship or by attending trade school or college for formal training. Here are some guidelines on how to become a gunsmith.

Individuals who want to become gunsmiths should first conduct the necessary research to ascertain what the profession entails. Subsequently an individual should seek formal education. This involves attending a gun smith college or school that is accredited. The schools either offer diplomas or degrees. In order to qualify as a gunsmith, an individual is required to have completed 8000 hours of theoretical classroom instruction as well as practical on-the-job related training. While formal training is necessary, it only provides individuals with the theoretical bit. Consequently, on completion of training, apprenticeship comes highly recommended as it provides individuals with the much needed hands on experience.
