How to Leave Work at The Office

Do you get paid for taking your work home from the office so that you can complete it?

It is no secret that working in an office environment is much different than working in a manufacturing environment. The difference being is that in a manufacturing environment the work stops after the whistle blows, which is the signal that the work day has come to an end.

Just stopping work within the office environment it not such an easy thing to do because some work remains unfinished and that work might have to be completed within a certain amount of time. Yes and every office worker knows that if such work is not completed in a timely manner that particular office worker could be fired, with or without a warning that such a thing will happen.

Most office workers perform an administrative function, in that they do not directly contribute to the profitability of the business. They merely process the paperwork that is associated with the selling of goods and services, maintaining the financial records of the business, provide personnel services and purchase raw materials and inventory items when required to do so.

If you have not already guessed, those kinds of office workers are easily replaced. As such, most office workers live in fear of being fired all of the time. That is why such office workers try to do the best job that is possible, including working overtime without compensation. You see, office workers are usually not unionized so an employer can easily fire any office worker for any reason, true or not.

Being all Human Beings, office workers have to eat and sleep on a regular basis. Therefore, it is not possible for any office worker to remain in the office all of the time. Then again, that work that is assigned to each office worker must be completed. In order to accomplish that goal and continue to remain employed there are times when such an office worker will bring that unfinished work home to complete for the following work day.

It is also true that the management of some businesses do not allow office workers to take the work out of the office environment. On the other hand, something is clearly wrong somewhere if an office worker has more work to complete than he or she can easily complete during normal working hours. Such an overworked person can either spend more time in the office each day or simply go home, even if the assigned work is not completed.

Office workers who are not paid for that additional time working in the office can tell their boss that that have too much work and must stay to complete such work. They can also ask for a pay increase or to be paid for the additional time spent working after the end of the normal work day.

Having done one or both of the above, the employer can comply with the requests or simply replace that worker at some time within the future. If such an overworked office worker is faced with being fired it is very difficult to simply go home and let that work remain unfinished.

Then again, that office worker can seek employment elsewhere while still in the employ of where they currently work and do all that is required to complete the assigned work in a timely manner. He or she can also work overtime every day until such time that he or she is fired or becomes employed within an office of another employer who does not work the daylights out of such office workers simply because such office workers do not directly contribute to the income of the business.
